Is this project still active and who manages it ?

As far as I know they just went inactive and refused to respond to anything. I forgot I was even subscribed to this subreddit.

What's the coolest thing you've ever found?

Ph4g3 31 points32 points 12 days ago[-]

You have one downvote at the time of this writing (19:32 GMT). Not even enough to be plural. Being the anonymous voting system that it is, some people will just downvote comments for seemingly no reason. You've been a redditor for 2 years. This is equivalent to explaining to your older brother where babies come from at the age of 18. I hope this satisfies your curiosity.

Hey Reddit, do you have any tattoos that you regret? If the answer is yes, show them to us.

This comment works because it assumes everyone has a facebook account. I don't.

That's xBook and FaceBox, granddad!

What shall I do with these?

I love the pyro! For some reason he reminds me of Vivi.

What’s the stupidest thing you’ve seen an intelligent person do?

Ph4g3 1 point2 points 3 months ago[-]

I have better things to do with my 20 seconds than read a comment on Reddit. Wait... what am I doing in the comments section? Oh right, I was reading comments.

To all scholarly publications, please do this from now on. It would make everyone's life a lot easier.

If you'll pardon my speaking and consider my following comment as a third party critical analyst, I have noticed some similarity between your comment and a run-of-the-mill clichéd advertisement. Consider the following:

Time to get to the next level now. The first line is snappy and to the point. Moreover, it is in your face and ambitious: concise, yet still conveying a sense of urgency.

You should additionally note in the succeeding sentence racergr uses a completely separate line to insist, ("You should be using..."), that you should be using the "easily noted citation manager complete with hyper-link". This seems innocent enough until we do a Ctrl-F of "citation", which yields us 42 results at the time of this writing, minus the above comments' four uses of the word "citation". For those that are unaware, it is quite easy to write a script to identify unique keywords that relate to a product you own and then insert a "calculated" comment.

In the next paragraph, we see the use of strong, unnecessary CAPITALISATION, possibly to highlight one of the selling points of the product. Regardless of the words that are capitilised, our eyes are still drawn to it.

Now consider the rest of the comment, as well as it as a whole. We see strong use of the buzzwords "integrate with word", "expensive", "student", "open source", "automatically" and even the trivial "if you think" in the last paragraph.

Finally, I would like to draw your attention to the poor language used in this comment. It might be slightly more subtle than your average "their", "there" and "they're" mistake, but nonetheless, it does seem to be poor language usage:

Also, there are some open source.

I understand (obviously) that some Redditors might not have English as their primary language. It has also occurred to me that I might be reading way too much in to this comment (in which case you should probably read the TL;DR). No offense meant racergr, I do not mean to insinuate that you are trying to flog a product. If you are confused by my comment however, please refer to the end of the second sentence of this paragraph.

TL;DR: I'm a bit drunk and was waiting for Shameless to buffer. None of the above is really heart felt.

[CLASS] Hack the Moon

Ph4g3 1 point2 points 3 months ago[-]

Interested. Knowledge of various analogue and digital modulation techniques as well as some encoding methods (mostly learned from my data/telecommunications classes in college). I also have some wireless technologies knowledge as it is related to my course (Software Development and Networking). Could you comment on whether this course would be the next logical step? I'm assuming you'll start off on a fairly basic level and advance from there depending on the skill set of the class.

What internet lingo really bothers you?

Ph4g3 1 point2 points 5 months ago[-]

I hate it too. In some situations it's grand, it makes sense to put a tl;dr in after a wall of text. Some people are lazy. If it's just a few lines of text though, then what's the point? Example:

Ask /r/math: Introducing Pi to 2nd graders.

Ph4g3 3 points4 points 5 months ago[-]

If I were in your place I would begin by having them understand real numbers, as opposed to integers or quotients. By that I mean I would ask them what is between 1 and 2, 1 and 1.5 etc, and ensure that they understand that it goes on infinitesmally. Then I would go on to explain the irrationality of Pi.

It seems to me, however, that "elementary" school children would already grasp the concept of infinite. I know I toyed with the idea when I was their age.

  • Pardon me, I'm a tad drunk.

Arrows stay stuck in the wall, they just count as being reflected when you airblast them. I guess this doesn't have any use other than the "Hot Potato" achievement.

Does anyone else think less of someone when they can't type coherently on the internet?

Ph4g3 0 points1 point 6 months ago[-]

Given that I type much faster than I can write, I think it's pretty retarded that I would need to abbreviate every word in order to save time. I would hate myself if I ever left somebody a note saying "Gon 2 shops, cya l8r!", so why would I type something like that? It makes sense with texting, I think it's limited to 300 characters per text message. In this scenario there is something to be gained by using slightly incoherent/abbreviated words. That said, I try to avoid sending messages like this unless I'm at about 310 characters. Some words can stand to be shortened and still convey information. Yes, I'm also a bit of a tight-ass where money is involved.
