TROPHY CASE

Gunpoint: A game about rewiring things and punching people by WhiteZeroin Games

[–]Pentadact 14 points15 points ago

Yeah, there was a bit of confusion over that. When I put out an open call for music submissions, I warned people not to do it for the money. Like the rest of us, the composer would get a percentage rather than a lump sum, and I don't know how it will sell. But it was easy to read it as "Warning: I will underpay you," so that reaction was understandable.

In the end, my favourite was Ryan Ike's moody spy-movie vibe - you can hear some of it, and some other music I picked, here: http://www.pentadact.com/2012-01-09-gunpoint-now-has-music/

Loved C418's too, though, would totally buy an album of stuff in that style.

Cheers everyone! It's always cool to see your own game on the place you hang out.

Today I've been trying to fix a problem with snipers, so just for you, here's a shot of a level that probably won't make it to the final game: http://i.imgur.com/z3mvl.jpg

Currently due to finish around the end of August, but that's Valve time.

Yeah, our artist John can't seem to make something look bad when he tries.

This is the level of stupidity i have to deal with at asda (UK Walmart) by GraphicPumpkinin gaming

[–]Pentadact 56 points57 points ago

I can see how that must get frustrating to deal with, but the person isn't necessarily stupid. They're just ignorant of something that's very familiar to us.

They might not know what an Xbox is, or more probably, they may just not know the relationship between the two companies who make these things. If they'd bought a PC from Dell, who are also not Microsoft, they could have bought a wired 360 pad and found it worked fine. We know that's because it's running an MS operating system, but you don't have to be stupid to not know stuff like that.

I only mention it because the ignorant/stupid conflation is part of what can make gaming and tech intimidating to newcomers - the feeling that if you say or ask for the wrong thing, you're an idiot for not already having some other piece of knowledge. Which makes it harder to get that knowledge, particularly if you don't live on the internet.

I think the questions must all be "Worst..." - presumably that's the concept of the feature.

Worst place to find parking, worst traffic light (in terms of getting stuck for ages), worst road to drive on (because of traffic/slow drivers/speed bumps).

'Best' kinda works for two of them, but 'Best traffic light' is a stupid question even to someone who hasn't just told you he doesn't drive.

It's weird to click on this and realise it's a screenshot of your character.

It's from a diary I did, playing the game as a psychotic but smartly dressed woman.

"Dressed and rested, I headed back out to the balcony to join Alistair Tenpenny for an afternoon of shooting poor people from our ivory tower."

Who actually enjoys their job? What do you do? What makes it enjoyable? by RyanFuller003in AskReddit

I love my job. I play and write about videogames for a living.

I'm a writer and editor for PC Gamer. Last month I played Skyrim, and wrote a 10-page diary of what I got up to for the latest issue. I get to fly around the world to see and play unreleased games, interview the smartest people in the industry, and get loads of awesome feedback on everything I write online.

But my favourite bit is being shut up in a darkened room with an amazing game like Deus Ex: Human Revolution for a week, playing the hell out of it, and analysing why it works and where it doesn't.

I realise how stupidly lucky I am, and I try to turn the guilt into devotion to doing the job as thoroughly and well as I humanly can.

I agree, and I drew them. The new look is courtesy of my awesome new artist John Roberts, and background artist Fabian van Dommelen. Just to give credit where it's due.

Haha, thanks! My plan is for the main initial release to be free, but I could do a special edition and/or a sequel for a small price. I'm getting a confusing number of people saying they want to give us money.

Sounds like he didn't have a leg to stand on.

Seriously though, it does sound like some information is missing. Artis is quoted referring to himself in the third person, the nurse doesn't say whether the leg was broken, and the dialogue sounds like a 1920's vaudeville sketch.

Hah. I once built 51 of the biggest experimental unit in the game, the Aeon flying saucer. It looked pretty amazing when they all crashed at once:

gatewayshuffle submitted this to the wilderness of the reddit.com category earlier, but it was cruelly overlooked. Submitting to /r/funny with a hat doff to him/her for finding it first.

I found it via Chris Remo on Twitter.
