Found her in Hoelbrak trying to sell some "Unique" armour. by CinnamonRoastin Guildwars2

[–]Ojimaru 0 points1 point ago

You can't buy new Champion skins in League of Legends without converting real money to Riot Points, yet that's still a booming business for Riot. When you consider such situations, you can't see it only from the perspective of a gamer; businesses that assume they can stay afloat with fan worship will sink like the Titanic.

Where did World of Warcraft go wrong? by matthew_in truegaming

[–]Ojimaru 1 point2 points ago

The game felt just too easy. I could just stay in Orgrimmar and level myself up with the dungeon finder.

This is true with WoW in BC if you had the right setup; Blizzard just made the game more convenient. There is nothing "fun" about going onto trade chat to look for a group (because nobody reads /lfg), then argue on who is to spend the next 15 minutes to travel to the Waystone, only to have the healer grow impatient and leave. Next thing you know you're standing alone in Stratholme moments after the entire party has disbanded and your Hearthstone is on cooldown.

Besides minor quibbles here and there, WoW hasn't done anything outright devastating. The difference between the scene last year and now is the competition. Every other MMORPG from West or East presented clones of the behemoth, maybe with a gimmick here or there, but never could they get the proper shine. This year, fortunately, there are at least two MMORPGs that has any chance of stealing WoW's thunder, although it's really too early to tell.

Where did World of Warcraft go wrong? by matthew_in truegaming

[–]Ojimaru 0 points1 point ago

I agree with this assessment, but I believe this applies to all MMORPGs. The only difference is that no other game has reached critical mass to make the transition.

Most MMORPG players will level alone, and most of these will eventually join guilds of varying sizes. These guilds are the start of their in-game social network: they chat, trade, hold discussions, and when the occasion presents itself they form a party to take on a challenge, be it a dungeon raid, guild war or just to farm rare materials or equipment. The last is done, as mentioned, to increase their social value. Getting to show off that rare, hard-to-get hat in town and, more importantly, to your guild mates matters a lot to everybody. This behavior isn't different from real life: we buy cars, clothes, gadgets and jewelry to stand out and look impressive; the only difference is these real world items aren't going to let you tank a rabid water dragon any better.

Kotaku gets Tentacle Bento's Kickstarter funding cancelled. by Parvanin boardgames

[–]Ojimaru 4 points5 points ago

Without Kickstarter though, I think it would be hard for a game like this to get enough attention to get funded.

Why would you say this? There are other alternative funding portals, e.g. Rockethub or on their own website. You don't need Kickstarter to kickstart a project just because a few big names made a splash there.

Microsoft Surface / E-Gaming tables, will you convert? by BeyondMarsin boardgames

[–]Ojimaru 4 points5 points ago

When you have a Microsoft Table and similar multitouch tables (more common than you think) aren't just huge multi-touch screens; they are usually equipped with cameras that track finger positions, as well as specific predefined patterns. What this ultimately means is that you're wasting 90% of the potential of the technology if you think of it as no more than a super sized iPad. These tables can be used to enhance our boardgames by supplementing the physical game pieces with computer graphics.

Consider Last Night on Earth. You still use the game pieces, but you play them on the Surface instead of the regular game boards. Available actions are displayed on the UI: Move will display automatically roll the die and display the maximum range, firing a gun will display line of sight and range, effects such as Lights Out! and They've Taken Over The...! will visually affect the game board, instead of having to plop a massive token on the board, etc etc etc.

Aion is now F2P. Is it worth giving a try? by Oiggin Games

[–]Ojimaru 0 points1 point ago

Totally depends on what else you have on your plate or within reach.

I picked it up as a tourniquet while waiting for Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3, hence didn't have high expectations. I've gotten to level 24 as a Templar (Elyos-Kahrun) an okay game: not spectacular but is fun to play nonetheless.

Personally, it doesn't have much to hold my interest considering those two games I've already pre-ordered. But if you're on a budget, give it a shot.

What balances out two sigils while dual wielding? by Oareoin Guildwars2

[–]Ojimaru 0 points1 point ago

So many things wrong here...

elementalists and engineers are at a disadvantage,

Why? Did they suddenly take away daggers from Elementalists and Pistols from Engineers?

but as ArenaNet have said that this is a skill based game rather than stats based,

Blind faith? That's it? How can one two-hander with Sigil of Doom compare to two weapons with Sigil of Doom and Sigil of Intelligence? That's a HUGE "stat" difference!

What game are you playing while you wait for Guild Wars 2 to release? by Bdzerin Guildwars2

[–]Ojimaru 1 point2 points ago

Aion Online until Diablo 3

Whether or not Diablo 3 is a good game, I feel the need to actually play the game that heralds Blizzard's decline, should it come to that. Harping about its flaws without playing a game through its entirety doesn't work for me.

Pros and Cons of leveling solely by PvP? by Techies_OPin Guildwars2

[–]Ojimaru 1 point2 points ago

EXP, gold and Karma rate in WvW varies greatly as it is depends heavily on the success of your Shard, Guild and opponents. For example, it could take you 30 minutes to an hour to down a Keep Lord, which will net you the same EXP has two PVE Dynamic Events that are completed within 10 minutes.

Thing is, a guild rushing to 80 through PVE will have a distinct advantage the moment they hop into WvW, compared to another that never left WvW, assuming both guilds started leveling at the same time. The former guild would have a wider selection of Utility skills, more gold to spend on Blueprints and more appropriately-geared players.

Guild Wars 2 - eSports by kirbyzagamerin Guildwars2

[–]Ojimaru 3 points4 points ago

You made a point stating that Guild Wars 2 can't just rely on a large player base to raise up their spectator numbers, as seen in League of Legends, mainly because GW2 has a PVE element.

How does this make any sense?

That's like saying LoL wouldn't be a successful eSport because it has other game modes, i.e. Twisted Treeline and Dominion, and most of their active players are casual players who aren't interested in the professional gaming scene.

A small percentage of a big number is still a big number. (In LoL's case it's about 4-5% of 11.5 million; IPL4 had 200,000 concurrent viewers during the LoL semi-finals and finals, or 1.74% of 11.5 million)

Damage of Champions/Bosses in DE , Dungeons are "illogical" ? by paperplayin Guildwars2

This was a common complaint on the Beta Forums, and the devs had admitted that the Champions were scaling too much. Stuff like this can only be truly tested during BWEs.

How F2P games like Tribes Ascend could influence Guild Wars 2. A Look at the Tartarus patch for TA. by Evidicusin Guildwars2

[–]Ojimaru 0 points1 point ago

The problem is your post doesn't show it "at work", just that it exists. Nothing indicated how successful this feature has been for Tribes Ascend, so why would ArenaNet, or any other developer, consider it a good example to follow?

This guy knows what he's talking about. I mean, he starts off saying that he "didn't play much WvW" and swiftly moves on to criticize its reward system. That's pro debate skills, yo.

This guy makes a good point by Garptin Guildwars2

[–]Ojimaru 0 points1 point ago

Finally there are badges. I found badges as a rare drop off enemies in WvW. I didnt find what they were used for but someone told me it was a set of armor. So that is a reward from killing people.

Unfortunately the current system has the loot drop on the floor. Meaning if you want those loot and badges, you'd have to come down from that wall you were just defending and... yeah.

Guild Wars 2 Would Be Better With Autoattack by Strillin Guildwars2

[–]Ojimaru 2 points3 points ago

Me thinks you missed the point of the OP's example. Trying to activate Blurred Frenzy as he/she tried to in the above situation is a reactionary move, much like how one would use Virtue of Courage, Protector's Strike or Static Shield. The reason his/her attempt failed was because the attack animation couldn't' be interrupted.

Also, in PvP using 1 furiously over and over again often isn't the best way to win fights, using your entire skill bar and only using 1 when it is necessary is the best way to fight. If you take a look at the PvP videos the people doing the best are the people moving rapidly to avoid attacks, setting up ambush's, creating spots that give the player an advantage in that you can hide behind walls and create barriers between you and your attacking foe. As an attacker, you need to be ever aware of your surroundings and of the skill level of the player you are fighting. this means, not just spamming 111111111111111 for the next 35 seconds or you will die faster then anyone else on the team. If you make a mistake, you pay for that mistake. This is what the Devs mean when they say "we aren't about holding hands."

Reading this, I have no idea whether you're for or against auto-attacks. Are you advocating the latter behind a straw-man argument?

Guild Wars 2 Would Be Better With Autoattack by Strillin Guildwars2

[–]Ojimaru 1 point2 points ago

In an FPS I circle-strafe and attack by

  • Holding down strafe (default: A or D)
  • Turning my mouse
  • Firing with my Left Mouse Button

In GW2 I circle-strafe and attack by (assuming default setup)

  • Holding down strafe (default: A or D; No keyboard turners please...)
  • Turning by moving my mouse while holding down the Right Mouse Button
  • Perform finger gymnastics to hit my 1-5 keys

Skill cap is skill cap, but you can't wave that gosu flag for a system that's hindered by controls.
