those are good bait but i highly suggest getting into lures and plastics. i drop shot plastic flukes. usually catch bass and halibut but i've caught corvina and lizardfish on it.

huge halibut can be caught towards the north end of the bay channel. near shelter island and such.

i have a hero2 but i haven't used it for fishing yet. i've taken a couple videos of myself driving around and it's amazing. i've seen some setups for fishing. wrist straps and suction cups. in the emergency of you dropping it into the water, there is a special backing you can find online where the backing floats so you can retrieve your camera.

try a drop shot rig. i drop shot weeds in saltwater and it works great. just gotta tuck the EWG hook into the lure and you're good to go.

haven't caught a legal bass off of a pier yet. just baby calicos and spotties. caught a legal halibut off of the coronado ferry landing pier last week!

out here in san diego, i took my family fishing for pacific mackerel. they loved it. strips of squid, carolina rigged with a glowstick bobber and just cast out with everyone.

what do you have on your list so we can tell you if they're worthy to see or avoid. there is a thread in this subreddit about mexican food not too long ago. choose one. mexican food is REAAAAL good here. go to one of our breweries (stone, green flash, pizza port, coronado, etc) and get a tour and drink a beer. i went snorkeling for the first time in my life in la jolla, one of the best inwater experiences i've had here. good luck with your adventures!
