Gay penguin couple receives a donated egg! They're finally becoming dads! by BreathlessFlamein TwoXChromosomes

They look so in love in the picture, and happy to finally be parents. I can't wait until the baby penguin hatches <3

Update to I don't feel quite right. I'm actually quite upset. by catruskain BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

Some docs are horrible that way, and very dismissive. Since my BMI registers at 21.2 the eating disorder (anorexia) was not a concern "well, you don't appear to have one, we only get worried if you're not showing at all" and lately been having lower pelvic pressure for 8 weeks now with mild (braxton hicks?) contractions, asked them to check my cervix "oh it's not that necessary, it's normal", though I haven't had that type of pressure with my first two boys.

If I were you I would find another doctor and get a different opinion, one who is actually concerned about your health and that of the baby's. If you can't, at least you only have to deal with him for another 14 weeks, but I hope you can find someone better before then.

Ouch...warn someone next time! by jscbearin BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 2 points3 points ago

That sounds painful as all hell. I hate it when I'm in labor and they try to feel my cervix's progress when I'm having a contraction. i can't imagine the pain of trying to manually open a cervix >.<

Old Wives Tales by sposesoin BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

I am having a girl, and somehow match all criteria for the old wives tales; horrid morning sickness (which made a disappearance then a wicked comeback a week ago), carrying low, high heartbeat (160 bpm average), craving fruit, very active baby, heartburn with a touch of acid reflux, feeling less attractive as a whole (girls steal beauty/boys give beauty)

Musicians? by Ducklord444in tall

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

I play guitar, bass guitar, drums, clarinet, flute, piano, vocals (grunge, rock, deeper than average female voice proves excellent for this genre)... so far the piano is what I have trouble with when having to lean over to play.

If you have kids, do you want them to be tall? by lilbigbroin tall

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 4 points5 points ago

My boys are going to be huge. Both were 3'1" at 2 years old. I am having a girl in August, I can't wait to find out how tall she turns out to be. Usually they say the boys take after mother in height, and girls take after their father (he's 5'7")... so for science! And being tall is awesome, and I find outweighs the drawbacks.

What are your biggest pet peeves about women's shoes? by Nomnombunnyin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 1 point2 points ago

Nice/cute shoes don't come in my size :( I am size 11 due to being 6'2", and was in a shoe store that shall remain nameless, the saleswoman asked "why do you need heels? You are tall enough without them!"... not that I wanted to be taller, I just wanted to accentuate my legs!

What failed? by CarrrotKNOWSin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

That is one thing I'm scared to try... I had a couple of friends who had major problems with them (rejection, heavy bleeding and cramping). I guess I may have to bite the bullet on this one if I want to have some reliable form of contraception, I guess some people take to them better though.

What failed? by CarrrotKNOWSin TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 3 points4 points ago

My BC pills failed me, no matter which brand I took, all within 3-6 months of taking them, and they were all used properly as prescribed. I had breakthrough bleeding with all of them, especially Alesse, which I bled for 40 days. My docs refused to prescribe me with a higher than average hormone dose, even though they were made for average women. I am 6'2" with a larger skeletal frame. The average height is 5'4" last time I checked, and BC pills were made for the norm. I kept asking for a higher dosage, and they were arrogant stating height wasn't a factor and "all women should have the same biology" (or as I like to put it, one size fits all). Nuvaring wouldn't stay inside no matter how I inserted it, because the doc wouldn't do a simple exam to see if I would have problems with it.

I have been denied tubal ligation over and over (I'm 24 years old, too young was another excuse), despite having two sons, until I got pregnant with my girl due this August. The magic number 3, I guess.

tl;dr; Simply put, contraception failed because docs themselves failed to be considerate of my contraceptive/medical needs, and treated me like I was a complete buffoon when it came to listening to my own biological tune.

How to 'cure' a feminist. by dumaain TwoXChromosomes

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 8 points9 points ago

1) Lie & fake it. 2) Manipulate her clothing preferences by shaming her appearance and choice in clothing. 3) Buy her off and domesticate her. 4) Give her a false environment or "habitat" so she'll remain blinded.

Once again, Maxim, you have outdone yourself. Very "charming" indeed. No luck in the dating world because we're no longer in the 1800's? Don't worry, you can reshape and change someone's entire belief system in 4 easy, manipulative steps. Only complete idiots would follow this advice, which I can only hope is a satire article.

http://daughtersofnarcissisticmothers.com/ This site is beyond helpful, as I have a mother like yours. Yes, a pissing contest. Exactly. I remember those. "Oh, you had Nitrous Oxide gas for your labor and delivery? Well, I had give birth to you all naturally, there weren't any pain killers in my day! I guess there are no real women left these days!" (said to me in the hospital shortly after the birth of my first son) and "oh he was 9 lbs 3 oz? you weighed in at 9 lbs 13 oz!"

I am wondering, does she tend to gaslight, too? As in "crazy making" or "you have some imagination on you"? It's a trademark NPD trait. So is scapegoat/golden child, if you had any siblings growing up. I hope this proves helpful for you, many people don't understand the disorder behind parents such as ours.

That does not sound like living at all. Merely existing. I feel bad for all of the women in the world currently living like this, or worse. I've seen the latter day saints dressed in this manner in my community, they always have an unusually happy demeanor, soft spoken, but one look in their eyes (most of the time) I can tell they're dying on the inside. Most (sane) hubbies don't want their wives dressed like Eskimos, they prefer some skin now and then, and keeping the spark alive, and most of said sane hubbies don't want a passive wife, neither. Passivity is a lack of color and personality. I say let it shine! And screw legalism.

Right-side abdominal pain by bunny1979in BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 1 point2 points ago

yes I did have pain radiating down my leg as well... kind of like menstrual cramps, and here I am at 27 weeks. Pain is not always an indicator that something could be wrong, just could be part of pregnancy.

Should I tell my parents about my blood test? by ABThrowawayOin AskReddit

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

So if both my supposed parents are O, a known recessive allele, and I'm the only A in my sibling group (sisters are AB and O), is it a possibility that my real father could be an A as well? (cheating was known in my family, but we all belong to the same mother, we all know that there is a possibility for a different father for each of us) and only one of my sisters really belonged to our dad? Or is it possible that he did/didn't father us all? I am not too sure, I never heard of the H/h allele possibility back in biology class.

Pets & babies?! by Happy_Kittehin BabyBumps

Well, I have had a min pin around, and she adored My son when he first came into the world. It's like her motherly instinct took over and she tried "cleaning" him by licking his hair and face, and would come to his every cry and start licking his cheeks and and laying with him.

Now my mom's Great Dane wanted nothing to do with babies when I brought my son over. he actually thought he was food. my mom would keep him tied up, let him smell one of my son's socks, he tried to eat said sock. After a few visits and leaving my son's clothing near him to get a few good scents, the dog grew fond of him, and started being nice, then started protecting my son once he found out that babies aren't for eating. We had a river in the back yard, and my son started crawling towards it, I saw the Great Dane walk in front of him and kind of guide him away from the water using his nose to nudge him back towards safety.

Animals are good nurturers and very loving, but I know that any type of dog is unpredictable when the introduction comes.

Right-side abdominal pain by bunny1979in BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 2 points3 points ago

I had that with mostly my left side down near the belly button. It could be some implantation pain? I found out my placenta is anterior (on the front wall) and just a little to the left. It went away after week 6. I got round ligament pain early on (never dealt with that in previous pregnancies), as well, since this is the third baby and it's my body's way of telling me that this is the last one. Have you had any implantation bleeding/spotting? Of not, it could be an irritated uterine wall from the baby egg nesting in there.

Still feel like crap at 15 weeks, anyone else? by beanjarin BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 0 points1 point ago

My crappy feeling didn't fully go away yet. The last time I threw up due to morning sickness was at 22 weeks. I get still nauseous with the smell of cooking meat, garbage, and cheese. Even though I have bursts of energy from time to time, I am starting to feel tired again and just want to sleep, but having a toddler, I have no nap options unless he's down for one himself. Then there's the insomnia at night. I haven't had much of that with my first two boys.... every pregnancy is different and everyone experiences it differently. Try some ginger tea and dry saltine/soda crackers to settle the nausea. It works amazingly.

How was your mother's day? by mrsobewanin BabyBumps

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 1 point2 points ago

Worked a 12 hour shift mother's day and the day before that. I work as a freelance salesperson in produce and floral sales, usually at roadside stands. Sales were through the roof at my stand, I sold out 3 times that day, having to call in for a rush delivery. It was sunny and hot out, and must have drank 2 gallons of water that day. People were nice for the most part, many guys were buying red roses by the dozen for their wives/gf. I saw many other preggers out there too, which a 5 minute conversation ensued inevitably about due dates, how many we've had, boy or girl, etc. I got home and hubby was laid out sleeping on the couch because my toddler was a handful for him that day, my little boy fast asleep in his room. He had chicken dinner with rice and veggies held warm in the oven for me. Then I went on Reddit.

Why are humans so bad at childbirth? by ProbablyOnTheToiletin askscience

[–]Nyssa_Hotaru 28 points29 points ago

Well, fuck. I am getting a midwife for the rest of this pregnancy, since hospitals tell me to lay on the bed. When laying on my back in the hospital for my first two births, they had me pushing against the force of gravity, thus harder and more painful contractions were needed. Since you're a midwife, I have a question, if this pregnancy had a few scares and is now labeled low risk, can I start seeing a midwife rather than an obstetrician? Also I have an anterior placenta, if that will affect my getting a midwife.
