Bashiok calling out people who got hacked and are lying about having authenticators! by King_Rajeshin Diablo

[–]Ninwa 7 points8 points ago

I think you're actually misunderstanding. The idea isn't that you can still be hacked if you don't have an authenticator, but instead by all of these people who claim to have had them not actually having them, it's lending itself far more toward the possibility that there is in fact no exploit, but that all of those complaining have been compromised in more mundane manners (e,g, keylogger, phising scams, or just plain bad passwords.)

A relatively simple fix to this problem would be to only apply the lowest MF value that the player was wearing while he has hit the enemy during it's life. That was a bit awkwardly worded, but essentially:

Scenario A: You equip DPS gear with 0 MF and get the monster to 1%. You switch to your 15% MF gear, but since you've already touched the monster with a 0MF stat that's the one that sticks.

Scenario B: You equip your MF gear and tap the monster, you switch to your DPS gear to burn it down. The moment you touch it with your DPS gear you will reduce its innate stored MF to your lowest.

Essentially eliminating the problem of MF gear switching. It does however promote other behavior such as switching in/out resist sets for certain champion types. It's hard to say whether or not this is game breaking though, because why have those resist stats in the first place if you didn't intend for people to stack resistances.

You've said it already, but if any of this were game breaking they wouldn't allow you to switch gear in combat to begin with. If they're going to allow it, make it more convenient. With my MF suggestion you eliminate any MF cheese.

How do you attempt to understand somebody who just has fear, misunderstanding, and hatred in their heart? People who are homophobic don't consider anything beyond their own "disgust for homosexuals." They find it repulsive, and because they don't like it, they seek to legislate other human indivudals rights? What is there to understand about them except that they perpetuate small minded thinking? Ignorant, hateful, disgusting, thoughts.

I have good news and bad news. The bad news first: you're still going to get bored from time to time after you quit, maybe pick up a hobby! The good news: you now have no reason not to quit! :)

Awesome! Good luck to you. It really does get so much easier. I only remember to check this subreddit once a month or so now! It's always feels good to see new quitters.

Forgive my python, I'm still brushing up, but here's a quick script that will use pdftotext and return all of the line numbers your search term is found on. It's basic but hopefully it's helpful.

pdftotext comes installed, it converts a pdf to a .txt file, from there it'd just need some bash magic.

Should I dual-boot Ubuntu 12.04? by I-Suck-At-Gamesin Ubuntu

[–]Ninwa 3 points4 points ago

Dual booting with Linux and Windows is easier than it ever has been before. The Ubuntu installer will automatically detect whether or not you have a Windows installation and it will prompt you to configure dual booting for you. It's completely automated. There are still a few pitfalls for new users, and it sucks that they're still problems, but sometimes getting audio, wireless, and graphics drivers working properly can be a hassle. It's a diminishing problem, though, and there's a very high likelihood that your setup will work out of the box.

So, say it does work, why even use Ubuntu? There's really a lot of different ways this could be answered. Linux is traditionally more secure, more flexible, and is 100% more free. I think you have to have a certain willingness to tinker to enjoy Linux, but this is changing, too! It boils down to why you use a computer. I personally use them as both production tools and toys. I'm a programmer and computer technician and so I enjoy the freedom that Linux offers.

Ubuntu has made great strides to make Linux less intimidating and more useful to typical users. I think that if you're willing to open your mind, willing to learn a new UI, and aren't easily frustrated just because something is different, a Linux box can be just as every bit of a every-day production machine as your windows machine*.

* Caveat: Unless you use high end photo / video / audio editing software **

** Yes, there are alternatives to these, too (but they suck.)

Jeffrey, I'm a young 20-something living on his own just making rent. I saw your project with CodeLesson.com and think it's fantastic. You're probably aware of Udacity and Coursera which are offering free online instructor driven classes to the masses. I understand that you don't have the resources that these large academic institutions have, but do you have any plans on making codelesson.com classes more affordable, or perhaps offer different payment schemes? Perhaps a subscription model or something similar might be more appealing to someone in my situation who can't stomach a large lump sum payment.

Just a suggestion, and regardless, I think online driven classes are the future of learning. Hopefully it will become less stigmatized in the future as more accredited institutions get on board to replace the shadier ones which have previously been dominant in that domain.

Best of luck to you in your ventures.

Ubuntu 12.04 Review: the Best Yet by ingalacticin Ubuntu

[–]Ninwa 0 points1 point ago

I can attest to this. My work computer has an older Geforce 7500 LE card which I use for dual monitors. My right screen is oriented normally, but my left monitor is a swivel/rotate dell monitor which I tend to keep vertical. In the past I've had issues with the built in screen manager when trying to rotate the screen. I would have to rummage through my xorg config files to get it working. With 12.04 beta 2 it worked right out of the box with no fiddling around.

Keep in mind though that when I tried to use the proprietary drivers for acceleration I could no longer count on the built in display manager, I had to use nvidia-settings to get things working how I needed them.

PS: We've heavily considered packaging a pre-configured VM application and providing it that way, but that really doesn't make my scheduled tasks any more portable, but instead just solves the problem of having to instruct somebody to set it up.
