Tribler Makes BitTorrent Impossible to Shut Down by andrewstratin technology

[–]NauticalInsanity 2 points3 points ago

Just because it's possible for Reddit and Wikipedia to circumvent censorship doesn't mean we don't need to care. We wouldn't argue that it's okay for the government to shut down interstates to stop drug trafficking. Sure, commerce can arrange to ship on the side roads the drug-runners do, but having to take such measures makes them a casualty of the war. We fight things like SOPA/ACTA/PIPA because the internet deserves to operate openly.

Why the hate for the quick fix? by Wargun21in tf2

In the dustbowl situation you gave, an amputator taunt would have filled the function just as well, provided no immediate danger for the next 5 seconds.

I only use the quick fix when I want to team up with a boston basher scout dick around.

Immortals? How many and when.... by Mercfhin starcraft_strategy

[–]NauticalInsanity 0 points1 point ago

Immortals normally don't scale well with army size and are expensive. In the early game, they give a much needed boost in DPS for the protoss army so pros will only get one or two for defense while teching to colossi after that robo production time is a precious resource and goes to colossi.

That said if you're on two bases with a zealot-archon composition 5+ immortals work well to supplement it as the immortals can engage well behind the rest of your army greatly boosting the dps you can concentrate on an area.

Mass Effect 4 Plans For Next-Gen Already In Discussion by BenMeetsWorldin gamingnews

The biggest trap is the risk of making the central character Shommander Schmepard; same person, different name. More interesting would be an Asari commando in the Krogan rebellion.

I'm hoping in ME3 they introduce a vehicle that combines the best elements of the Mako and the Hammerhead. Something that's nicely maneuverable, can run over shit, and doesn't burst into flames every time a bug hits the windshield.

Mass Effect 4 Plans For Next-Gen Already In Discussion by BenMeetsWorldin gamingnews

EA does have a dedicated deceased equine-beating division. However, to Bioware's credit, there's still plenty of juicy milk left in the udder of the Mass Effect universe. To say that the Shepard saga is the only wool that can come from that metaphorical ewe is to ignore the vast allegorical barnyard of history that Bioware's writers invented.

Is a macro Nexus worth it? by luckyButtonMasherin starcraft_strategy

[–]NauticalInsanity 13 points14 points ago

Ultimately, a macro nexus provides enough energy to keep a building under chronoboost ~50% of the time. Each chronoboost cuts 10s off of production time, so any production structure will receive a 25% boost to productivity. On two bases with a macro nexus, you can constantly chrono one forge and 50% chronoboost the other. That will get you a +3 attack or armor at 380 seconds as opposed to 430 with 50% chronoboost.

The verdict, a nexus is nowhere near as productive as adding another production structure and significantly more expensive. It can cut 50 seconds off a +3 timing attack, but you have to lay the nexus at a point where you're still building probes and those 400 minerals will eat into your economy meaning that with the cost of the super-fast upgrades, you'll likely not have a lot of units to take advantage of it. Not to mention in PvX, 2-base double forge gets your upgrades so fast anyway, that the 50 second advantage likely won't counteract your unit disadvantage.

The only concrete advantage a macro nexus has over more production structures is if you're using multiple kinds of production structures. The extra flexibility of chronoboost gives you flexibility in shifting your production priorities without leaving idle T2 production structures. Even then, the small boost to production a nexus gives is still vastly outweighed by its cost.

TL;DR 50 second cut in +3 timing. 400 minerals on a nexus means 5 void rays from a stargate instead of 4. 150/150 for an extra stargate means 8 void rays in that same amount of time. Not worth it.

Ichigo is the kind of person who prefers to take burdens on himself rather than pass them off on other people. Remember when Shinji attacked him, he didn't go running to Urahara. He knows he's the real target of Tsukishima and at the same time he's been presented a way to meet the challenge.

Also I would not assume Urahara is completely ignorant of what's going on.

Full list of confirmed Mass Effect 3 characters by BenMeetsWorldin gamingnews

[–]NauticalInsanity 0 points1 point ago

None of this is really that much of a spoiler. I doubt Bioware would cut main characters out of the story. The question is how much of a role each of these people will play, especially because almost every character listed can die in ME1/ME2.

[TvP - Masters] Is building one raven bad? (mid to late game) by L0Xin starcraft_strategy

[–]NauticalInsanity 2 points3 points ago

As a protoss player, a viking and a raven are annoying to deal with because it's almost an instant snipe of observers. It makes ghost cloaking so much more effective as a way to set up EMPs.

[ZvP][Silver] Need help against a specific toss opening. by ansilein starcraft_strategy

[–]NauticalInsanity 0 points1 point ago

Without a replay I can't be 100% confident about his build, but from the sound of it, it's a build intended to kill/force a cancel on a fast 3rd hatchery that some (most) zergs like to do against a FFE. Generally it's intended to slow down the zerg's economic advantage by forcing out units and spore crawlers instead of drones. His attack probably lines up with a +1 attack for the zealots (or should, tell him that) because the attack upgrade makes the zealots extremely effective against lings.

You should have your natural up by the time this hits, 3 queens, a roach warren, and a spine crawler at least to deal with any protoss builds. Leaving a zergling parked outside his base will let you know when he pushes out and give you a quick window to build roaches. At 8-9 minutes is when the FFE-6-gate timing hits anyway so you should start building units anyway.

How you respond to void rays is really dependent on how many the protoss player builds. If you spot only 1 or 2, you can just make a 4th queen to be safe. 1 to 1 a void ray beats a queen, just barely. The difference is that void rays are expensive and queens are cheap. If you have an equal number of queens to his void rays, the protoss player will bug out. If you spot 3 or more void rays, you should invest in 2-3 spore crawlers per base.

As for a follow-up, you can do just about anything so long as you take your 3rd immediately after the attack. Make sure to have extra queens to make sure you can secure it against void ray harass. Mutas are a pretty good follow-up, even if you know your opponent is getting blink stalkers. Just be sure he isn't pumping out phoenixes from two starports before you throw down your spire. Speed roach-ling is a good follow-up as well. Often just a huge flush of cheap ground units will overpower air protoss. Hydra also can work, but it reduces your mobility significantly. Make sure to keep lings and roaches mixed in with your hydra army. You also don't have to attack immediately. If you are on 3 bases and protoss is stuck on two behind his cannon wall, just keep taking bases, building units, spreading creep, and teching. Keep poking his wall, and if he takes a 3rd, attack. Passive play is a great way to break a 2-base protoss player.

As for blink stalkers in particular, speedling-speed roach is great on creep against them. The key is to try to force the engagement in the open on creep so he can't easily forcefield away your zerglings and roaches. Luckily, you'll have extra queens from holding off the void ray attack. Also, if you murder his blink stalker push, take a base. A protoss player building stalkers is like a zerg player massing roaches. There's very little they can do other than make those units so if you kill them, there's not anything too scary they can throw at you for a brief window.

TL;DR Queens, Creep, Roaches, and Macro.

Edit: Zerg can't build sentries.

Who was the captain of squad 3 by valuzzakoin bleach

[–]NauticalInsanity 4 points5 points ago

However, I doubt Gin killed the third squad captain. Kenpachi is famous as the only current captain to have won his seat in that fashion, so I doubt Gin also worked that angle into captaincy.

That said, it's not inconceivable that Aizen arranged some "accident" once Gin had achieved bankai.

Blizzard Answers Some Community Questions on Balance by Sceptrein starcraft

[–]NauticalInsanity 0 points1 point ago

It's a very risky high-speed dance between 3 and 4 range. Phoenixes also have acceleration to factor into their micro, so any change in direction of the muta flock has to be anticipated, because every time you fuck up slightly, that's at least significant hull damage on a handful of your phoenixes, maybe even losing one or two.

Blizzard Answers Some Community Questions on Balance by Sceptrein starcraft

[–]NauticalInsanity -1 points0 points ago

I like the suggestion of tweaking the phoenix to deal with mutas. I've long thought that a +1 range boost would make phoenix micro viable against a muta ball. Currently, dancing between 3 and 4 range is too much of a knife's edge for the Protoss player. Zerg producing a handful of corruptors would still reduce the danger to the muta ball, but now the phoenixes help protoss retake map control after the first batch of mutalisks are produced rather than waiting to get a good storm off on the whole flock.

A few comments from someone who plays a lot of medic. by onlyunicorncansaveusin tf2

[–]NauticalInsanity 18 points19 points ago

2 bits. As someone who mains as medic, being a medic on a team is only useful to the team if you have a good number of main-line combat classes (demo, soldier, pyro, heavy) If you join the team and there are a bunch of engineers, spies, snipers, and scouts with an odd pyro or heavy, the extra firepower of an extra combat class is actually more useful.

/starcraft, what are your best troll builds? by JohannesPin starcraft

[–]NauticalInsanity 5 points6 points ago

All Protoss players only ever make ONE observer.

In PvP I sometimes do a build where on one base I make two to five observers a token force of stalkers and zealots and as many DTs as I can pump out. I then take my expansion, and snipe with the stalkers any observer my opponent has in his attack and then laugh my way back to his base.
