Reddit vote Rush Limbaugh off this AM station. The owners have agreed to take him off if we get the votes! by Knosisin politics

[–]NYCubsFan -1 points0 points ago

While I agree, I'm going to take the OP's wording "we" to mean he/she is a listener or at least within the station's broadcast area. I wouldn't fault the person for reaching out to people online to support their position. Plus if there is a market for him there another station will pick up his show pretty quickly.

There was a Barbie campaign that went to great depth, including 4squre checkins at LAX and JFK, but then again, the stalker was Ken. http://mashable.com/2011/02/04/reunite-barbie-ken/

Good points. There was a good article about hydro fracking in the New Yorker last month comparing the industry to a ponzi scheme. There is a lot of money to keep this industry going and it is unlikely for this legislation to pass in states with large reserves.

My immediate thought. Sad it got cancelled. We need a reddit cable channel for shows like this, Arrested Development, Freaks & Geeks, etc.

I thought that, but also, the page appears two ways. One in which the number one is the default and there is a choose button. I clicked again and saw all numbers listed and you had to choose one. I would think more people would select one in the first scenario. Maybe they set up both to randomly appear to see how the way it is presented impacts response.

The article from SI that expectingrain linked to goes into great detail about the costs schools incur to play in a bowl game. Here is one paragraph from page 3

Ohio State ate $1.01 million in unsold tickets at the 2009 Fiesta Bowl. Smaller bowls do similar damage to schools thrilled by a mere invitation. The euphoria of playing in the postseason quickly wore off for Western Michigan two years ago when the Broncos' athletic department was able to unload only 548 of the 11,000 tickets it was required to purchase by the good folks at the Texas Bowl. Western Michigan's loss of $462,535 (before adding in travel and lodging costs) probably hurt more than its subsequent 38--14 defeat at the hands of Rice.

The amount of money that schools are forced to cough up to these bowls is outrageous. Most of them actually lose money by participating, due to requirements to buy an absurd amount of tickets at face value.

I also like the one from that movie around the pool. They actually continue the long shot to follow a girl diving into the pool, underwater, than back to the surface.

Awful avocados? Why won't they ripen? by brosenauin food

[–]NYCubsFan 28 points29 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You can also stick a banana, apple or other ethylene releasing fruit. Be sure to seal the bag by folding it over a couple of times, it is the trapping of the gas that is speeding up the ripening. This will have your avocados at the ripe stage faster, and you can keep a couple others on the counter that will take another day or two. When checking for softness, press softly around the stem end (where the avocado was attached to the tree) as this should ripen first. It should only be slightly soft, not mushy. Handling at the store is also important. Best displays are in a single layer so there isn't weight pushing down on them. Treat them almost like eggs. If the cashier rolls your avocado down the belt and it slams into the bottom, it will bruise just like an apple or pear. There are a lot of other reasons you could get an occasional bad one, but this should improve your batting average.
