Let's talk WWII rifles: Mosin, Mauser, Lee-Enfield, Garand by Melloverturein guns

[–]Mystical_Badger 0 points1 point ago

The Mk.I/2 was a conversion of British manufactured No.4 Mk.I to No.4. Mk.2 configuration. The Long Branch and Savage guns when converted, were designated the No.4 Mk.I/3

This is encouraging, considering we're in the Bible Belt by 6tardis6in atheism

Atheist from Andover reporting in.

I may have gone a little crazy with the Enfields by Mystical_Badgerin guns

[–]Mystical_Badger[S] 1 point2 points ago

Not yet. I'm still looking for an SMLE Mk.V first.

1903 Enfield decent condition, $300. Worth it? by Yoneasyin guns

[–]Mystical_Badger 0 points1 point ago

If by 1903 dated SMLE, I'll pay you $600 for it. Those are pretty rare.

Taking stripper clips to a new level. (0:17) by hammerandsicklein guns

[–]Mystical_Badger 0 points1 point ago

Feeding by a hopper-full of stripper clips reminds me of the Nambu Type-11 LMG. A 35mm aerial rape Nambu.

Shoot me in the foot? by jedimacin guns

Interesting that his flintlock would need a percussion cap. . .

My (not so) modest collection so far. by madeucein guns

[–]Mystical_Badger 1 point2 points ago

This collection requires more Lee-Enfield.

Anytime someone recommends a Mosin-Nagant by CaptainSquishfacein guns

While I do agree with you, to say that there is not the same in depth info available for the Mauser is unfair, as the French destroyed the Mauser plant in 1945, along with all their records. I'd assume the Germans were just as good about this sort of thing.

The SMLE also had a 20 round trench mag available, starting in 1916. And the rimmed cartridge wasn't an issue as long as one knows what they're doing. The handling of gas, while not as good as the Mauser system, works well enough. The one thing that simply can't be argued is the Enfield's superior rate of fire. Only bolt-action rifle mistaken for a machine gun.

Nope. The SMLE Mk.1. Although I will admit the sliding charger guide on the bolt-head isn't the best, I still feel the Lee action is superior to the Mauser in a battlefield setting. Also, 10 round magazine.

Pharmacy Insulin Rage by Mandethin fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]Mystical_Badger 2 points3 points ago

As a fellow pharm tech, at a national chain that also does not sell syringes without proof of necessity, I feel your pain in having to deal with the people. Something I do not get, however is why people believe that since I am a pharmacy tech, that I can be treated like shit for every little thing. And I've noticed that the worst offenders are the people on our state's Medicaid, who get all their prescriptions for free.

Especially if you shoot some odd-ball calibers. Or something like the .303, which was once plentiful on the surplus market, but all that's left is mostly crap.

When the calibers you most often shoot are .303 and .455 Webley, you see a return on investment pretty darn quick.

Funny you mention the '98, because a MUCH better rifle came about 5 years later.

I have two more on the way, an SMLE Mk.I***, BSA Co., 1904, and an SMLE Mk. III, RSAF Enfield, 1915, both with volley sights.

I know everything's Brit but the butstock, I was checking proofs to see what was BSA and what came out of RSAF Enfield. I just had the stupid notion that no pistol girp meant that I didn't have to worry about 922r. Now I have half an L1A1 in my safe, and half in a box away from my safe.

Well shit, I'm going to be taking it apart so it doesn't have more than 10 foreign parts, then I'll reassess things a bit. This gun has been at the back of the safe for a while, I've been concentrating on SMLE's, so I haven't thought about it much.

Errr. . . No. That's why i haven't put the handguards on yet. Right now everything is British except the stock, and the receiver, which is Argentine. I'm probably going to replace the mag floor-plate, the piston, and some of the trigger elements to meet 922r.

Please don't fap on the rifles, it could lead to rust.

I have some BSA made wood handguards to replace the plastic ones, but I'm still looking for a proper English buttstock and pistol-grip. The only ones I've been able to find in good condition are all Australian.
