Haha, yeah that thread was comically serendipitous for us. We started developing this last week. So the screws really got put on to get it out right away when that post went up!

Virtus.Pro reveals Santa as third member | ESFI World by jamesdkongin DotA2

I want you to know that this person is not a part of ESFI's Dota 2 section, and we did not approve this being published on Reddit. We do not support glorified advertisement accounts; everyone who posts ESFI content are active Redditors. I've asked the mods to take this down, and I will do my best to prevent this from happening again.

I'm honored to have an e-harasser, but I can't say I understand why you are doing this. I thought you got the point when we beat this to death two weeks ago. This is a passion project for me and everyone involved, but thanks for making this volunteer's only payment a thorough and undeserved verbal lashing.

Not gonna lie, that is nonsense. There are people working for those corporations too. Just because you don't see all of their faces every day doesn't mean they don't work hard to provide you something. There are people there with jobs on the line. Just because you say they do something bad doesn't give you the right to rob them of their livelihood. If you use someone's service they have a right for reimbursement. If you don't want to support something, then don't use it. Don't steal from it.

In truth, tier lists originated in DotA long before League of Legends. DC did WC3 DotA tier lists for a long time. It's not a statement on what is empirically good and bad, just a snapshot of the state of things today.

Yeah, because that's what I said... Get a clue before you go condemning something you clearly know nothing about next time.

I'm not sure what you think esports is, but this isn't exactly a career business. People at the top of the heap who make "money" on it are still working full time jobs 99% of the time (most of our staff work full time as it is). This isn't some unpaid internship for a greedy corporation that values people at zero. It's a passion project. I'm not in esports to make money (I don't make any). I'm in esports because I love it, and I love the idea of making this a place where someday there is money in it. You don't have a clue what you're talking about if you think we're doing anyone a disservice. I make no false pretenses. You do this because you love it, and you get back what you put in. There's no more honest treatment around. If you're active you get to go to events; you get to meet players and have the fun feeling of being a scene "insider"; and you can hone whatever skill it is you have in the process. Every cent our site makes goes back into sending people to live events and improving the site. Nobody takes a salary. If all you care about as an "employer" is how much money someone is making, then you're a fool yourself. The people I work with do amazing things on a daily basis because they love the game and they love esports. These are the people you want on your side in a fight. They do hard work for the right reasons. So when you do hand them that paycheck, it's not the only thing keeping the wheels on track.

Could you disrespect the hard working people who dedicate their time to improving esports a bit more please? I mean, really lay it on us. I know we're not ESPN, but there's a hard working bunch of people here, and on other sites, who care about what they are doing and have learned a lot in the process. And I'm not sure where you get this notion that we steal credit away from individuals. Every person's work stands on its own.

As for blogs, they're great and all. They have their place, but, let's be honest, every Tom, Dick, and Harry out there with a library card has a blog now. It's not like they're some end all, be all of ambition. There's plenty of room for for being on a team or doing your own thing or both.
