I think the apartments on Grandin across the street from the 7-11 are in that range. They're worth a look.

I buy from eBay and haven't settled on a specific vendor yet. I refine my search to the US and choose only sellers with very high ratings. I read the description carefully to make sure they know what they're selling. I've bought a few bad parts but that's out of many hundreds of units so I don't feel so bad about my method.

You can get a screen and often the tools to fixing for under $30 on ebay. Just make sure you purchase the LCD assembly and not just the digitizer. There's plenty of YouTube videos that will show you how to swap it out. I run a part time local repair business and charge $100 for the 4/4S. It takes me 1 hour but your first run through will take at least 2. I get quite a few repairs from people who tried and messed something up. If you're careful, patient, focused, and methodical you will do fine.

Edit: you can change color. Just buy the whole kit. Be careful with the button, the cable it's glued to is very fragile.

To Christians: What is your definition of a "good Christian"? by korpisin DebateReligion

I see religious wars brewing. It's like we haven't learned anything from the past and are doomed to repeat it. The Abrahamic religions seem hell bent on destroying each other regardless of what their holy books say. It's madness and it just seems like it's time we move on.

You're a breath of fresh air too my friend. It is getting worse and I think that's why you see a more vocal irritated atheist community. We see our futures and that of our country at stake. If anti-science and civil rights of this country move backwards now we are truly in serious trouble. The rest of the world won't wait for us to outgrow our superstitions. The progress of the world won't be stopped and the beat maker isn't the church as it was.

My wife is a Christian and her parents young earthers. I've learned tolerance. I was guilty of the angry atheist mentality for a time. If your brand of spirituality gives you peace and is intellectually honest to yourself then I say go for it. It seems that spirituality is really a personal thing, something that seems to go against the absolutes portrayed in the bible. Every Christian I've met has a different interpretation of Christianity. This makes me think humans are doing what they've always done and adapted what they were indoctrinated with to fit their world view. Maybe that's not such a bad thing after all, so long as they don't try to pass laws outlawing civil rights, like the gay marriage issue. Even my Christian wife is against her bible on that one.

I used to be perplexed by the consciousness thing too. There are many cases where people are injured in certain areas of their brain, have strokes, tumors etc and their personalities completely transform. They are different people with an entirely different consciousness. The idea that a person devastated by Alzheimer's will die and their intact soul will ascend to heaven just doesn't make any sense to me. I desperately want to believe that I'm more than blood and neurons but there's pretty concrete evidence to show that our notion of ourselves is very much biological and chemical, that affecting our brain can effect our consciousness.

As far as Christianity being a gamble; your'e right. It Pascals wager and the wager only works in the Christians favor when there are only two choices, Christianity or atheism. There are thousands of deities man has worshiped. If there is a God I'd think he'd be more upset if you worship the wrong God than no God.

You're on the verge of seeing it from our point of view. You think it's sciences job to answer your questions about the existence of God. It isn't. The burden of proof isn't on science but on the claimant. Your religion (religion in general) claims there is God/Gods yet offers nothing for evidence to back up this claim. Your belief is due to your indoctrination as a child. Basically all of ours were. You'd have laughed at the notion as an adult if you'd never have heard of it and someone started telling you about talking snakes and boats carrying every animal and a man that walked on water etc. etc.

Because we aren't sure how the big bang began or how the first cell got going, abiogenesis, doesn't mean that we can insert God and leave it at that. It took me a long time for me to call myself an atheist. The word had so many negative connotations associated with it. It's just a word with no more power than a black cat crossing your path, unless of course you live in the South and your parents will disown you or whatever.

And for everyone like that you'll find ex-christians who are now empowered and "complete". Their lack of faith is responsible for their positive transformation. I know mine sure was.

Great ideas. The Grandin area seems like the natural meet up spot for local Redditors.

Also, a local band The Seed who played a lot back in the day is doing a reunion gig that night at Growlers at Towers. They're a great reggae band. I played with them for about a year and plan on sitting in with them for a couple tunes. Just throwing that out there.

To Atheists: Let's Talk Marriage by nasch890in DebateReligion

I, an atheist, married my Christian wife in a Christian ceremony. The pastor knew my beliefs (lack of) and tailored the ceremony with that in mind. It was still Christian in nature because essentially everyone in attendance was a Christian. The ceremony, to me, is a public display that you take a life partner. If it was just for us alone I'd have done things very differently but a big public wedding isn't for yourself, it's a display for everyone else. Everyone else was Christian. I wasn't made to say anything that I didn't agree with and his sermon was very thoughtful and strategically presented. I grew to admire the man greatly. I'm now about to have my 2nd anniversary and have a 7 week old girl and am happy. We've had some fights and there will be battles on the horizon but it'll work out fine. I was raised with Sunday school and it didn't tweak me. I won't let my daughter get twisted.
