I think for city cycling earphones can be extremely dangerous. But when I'm cycling down quiet country roads, I have 1 earphone in, keeping my ear closest to the road free to listen for cars etc.

Well I have a road bike so I tend to get a lot of extra gear: 2 locks, helmet (of course), spare inner tube, puncture repair kit, water bottle, saddle bag, lights, mudguards etc.

It's all things that I use though, so I have no complaints. The rest of my life is relatively clutter-free.

I think it will be quite difficult to do at the same time. Put your book down and watch the TV show. Then pick the book back up afterwards and keep reading.
