r/manga will you support a digital & independent manga by EvilNandoin manga

I for one definitely think online only is great for independent manga. I actually just started the site balloond.com to make it easy for anyone to upload manga/comics and distribute them, and even charge for it if they want.

Looking for up-and-coming comic creators by MetalVanin ComicBookCollabs

Yes exactly - we want to be the home store for indepdent comics of the future - creator run and reader edited.

We have some plans for marketing, but it comes odwn to a lot of effort, good ideas, and being embraced by the community.

Right now we're setting up to be able to read in browser or on our iPad app and not offering downloads - but if that's what people want it isn't too hard to add. We are afraid that giving out PDFs might worry some creators.

We pay out creators via paypal once per month for 75% of the cover price of all the comics they sold.

We're starting small and as a store, allowing users to comment and vote, but not getting too much into fancy extras - but nothing is out of the question. I really want to hear what you guys want so I can build it.

And yes, comics can be free - we just end up taking a loss on that.

We are looking for all kinds of comics - any original content is welcome. Right now there is not an exclusivity deal, and we don't take any rights away from the creator, so its a great way to get a project out there.

The easiest way is to upload jpegs, but we are looking to add more features to the uploader, so let me know how else you would like to upload.

r/manga: How do mangaka possibly meet their crazy release schedules? by MetalVanin manga

4 hours of sleep per night seems like a reasonable explanation - makes me surprised to see series that last more than a few volumes without devolving into insanity.

Very cool recommendation - will definitely check this out.

r/manga: Why do you like manga more than American comics? by MetalVanin manga

[–]MetalVan[S] 1 point2 points ago

It's particularly sad to go into a comic book store that only sells Superhero comics because the non-superhero books "don't sell." Seems like a bad cycle to get into.

Well both. I think Image/Vertigo are a lot closer in terms of structuring story to manga, although they still tend to put out shorter volumes more slowly.

This one is particularly interesting, because crossovers have become so important in America, specifically Marvel seems to always having an "event" running. Loyal readers must love it, but it makes it increasingly hard for the uninitiated.

You Keep Copying Watchmen (but you keep doing it wrong) by MetalVanin comicbooks

I actually agree on this point - Watchmen is rarely my go to for new readers. And I do agree that fresh books, as long as the publishers are working with us, are the best way to get people hooked. I've put a lot of friends onto Chew and the DC New 52.

And Watchmen is hardly the only book worthy of examination. It was a good starting point for me, and it's hard to deny its richness. I've been planning for a while to write about We3, like you mentioned, and a bunch of other books. But Watchmen is a real touchstone for so many of us, and a great place to start the conversation.
