Why do we want to pinch cute things?

Whenever I see something cute, or pet my cat, I almost grind my teeth and restrain myself from full-out pinching my cat (for obvious reasons). I'm assuming this also applies to older people pinching little kids' cheeks. Shouldn't the cuteness adaptation make us not want to harm the animal displaying it?

Problem with ammonia!

I've recently had a huge spike in ammonia. I take responsibility, as I think I may have been over feeding (even though the fish I had in there were 4 cories, 3 ghost shrimp, 3 otos, and 3 siamese algae eaters (I was going to move the SAEs before they died, as I thought the tank was over stocked...)). I test the water more often for hardness, nitrite, nitrate, and pH, than ammonia. They always turn up great and constant each time. However, one morning I awoke to a dead oto and a dead SAE. The ammonia was at 8 ppm! I did a huge water change, but still lost my other SAEs. Each of the past days since the incident (Sunday), I have been doing 25% water changes and adding an ammonia neutralizer. Still at around 1.5 ppm each time. Today I lost another oto, and I'm worried for my last one. He has little redness and is breathing fine. The tank is 10 gallons and I thought it was cylced, as I've had it since mid-August, and since September with fish. Please, any advice would be great!

Hey, new here, but I have a question about Cory Catfish

I am kind of a newb. I've had the aquarium since mid-August (when I started fishless cycling it). It's a 10 gallon tank with 4 Three Lined Corys, 3 Siamese Algae Eaters (gonna move them, I'm making another tank), and 3 Ghost Shrimp. The shrimp are the only ones I ever see moving really. The Corys and Algae Eaters just stay kind of still, except when they see me and swim away, or when I put food in. No nitrites or ammonia, and nitrates are very low. I have a bit of a brown algae problem, but once the SAE are out of there, I'm putting in some Otocinclus, which love brown algae. There are plants and plenty of hiding spots. Maybe it's too cold (Around 70 degrees F)?

I liked this question (forgot where I heard it) a lot, but that's probably because I have a good memory, so it makes it a bit harder. I chose the good friend, because I feel every single year I've been through has taught me something.

And yes, you can choose the year out of every year you remember and any good friend you choose.
