TROPHY CASE

Found out my girlfriend has been cheating on me for the last 2 months, I've honestly never felt this low in my life, how do people deal with these kind of feelings? by s_dafuq_jin AskReddit

Having done startups in & out of relationships, I can tell you that this is probably the best thing possible for your chance of success.

Get revenge by being absurdly successful.

Person in a position two levels above me (but I'm qualified for) just quit without notice. How should I proceed to show my boss I'm interested? by barelyinfocusin jobs

[–]MeanestBossEver 3 points4 points ago

Odds are extremely good that they'll promote one of the junior people thus opening up a junior position.

That said, I'd immediate let your boss know that you're interested in staying with the company -- I'd recommend in person rather than via email. Let him know that you believe you meet the qualifications and would like to be considered.

I would not offer to do the job just to be nice. That does get you considered for a promotion; that gets you considered to be a doormat.

Introducing the California Pirate Party: A Different Approach to Politics by Gumbypantsin politics

[–]MeanestBossEver 6 points7 points ago

I'm intrigued but I have many questions:

  1. Do you have a professional political treasurer and or political attorney?
  2. Are you properly organized a political party in California?
  3. You listed a threshold of 104,000 to get candidates listed on the ballot. Is it the same to be listed on the voter registration cards?
  4. Do you have a charter, operating agreement or similar agreement?
  5. You're raising money -- what are your plans for disclosure?
  6. Do you have a strategy for breaking into the 2-party duopoly?

We now have a version of fusion voting. We've moved to a "top two" open primary.

Are there any non-religious arguments against banning same-sex marriage? by PepSupChOthin AskReddit

I think "legit" is an overstatement. There is zero evidence of that. In fact, a study from a couple of years ago showed that there unlikely heterosexual families, there was no child-abuse in lesbian households.

San Diego wins 16 World Beer Cup medals!! by con_baconin sandiego

95 categories, 3 awards in each category = ~285*

*I think one or two were not awarded, plus there's the brewer/brewery of the year awards.

[–]MeanestBossEver 1 point2 points ago

Don't know North County but I think you just need to be a bit more selective in where you go.

You might want to avoid the places that describe themselves on their website as a "Great Family Place" and that have a children's section in their menu.

As you may know, craft beer has taken off. There are amazing craft breweries through the US (and the world). However, these tend to have very local distributions. Bring a few beers from each destination to the next.

www.beeradvocate.com can help you make selections or r/beer for advice and help procuring.

People regular post "Is this a scam" here. Every single time the question has been asked, it has been a scam.

If you're not for capitalism, what is the better alternative? by BradSVin occupywallstreet

[–]MeanestBossEver 3 points4 points ago

Nothing. That sounds quite reasonable.

While there are a lot of different views within the Occupy movement, the bulk of the movement is about corruption.

The problems occur when a business owner makes heavy political donations which get him preferential tax breaks or no-bid government contracts or -- as happened with wall street -- huge government bail outs while continuing to take a huge salary and bonuses.

It actually get's even worse. What's happen with most public companies is that the majority owners of the companies -- average people via their 401(K)s -- are having their companies mismanaged and the executives essentially ripping off both the shareholders and the employees. Because the owners don't directly control the company (a problem w/ the 401K model), they can really do anything about this.

Pissed off yet? Welcome to Occupy.

Judge: Facebook Likes not protected by First Amendment. Employees fired for Liking something on the social network have no legal shield. by kbeenyin business

[–]MeanestBossEver 38 points39 points ago

I think this is a bit of a misreading of the ruling.

From what I understand, normally, if you participate in a first amendment protected activity that might upset your employer and get fired shortly thereafter, there is an assumption that there is a reasonable case that you were fired illegally.

In this case, simply "liking" something was not enough evidence to show a likelihood of an illegal firing.

You really only have two options at that level: friends & family. Get over being uncomfortable or get comfortable with the idea that you're not going to be able to start this business.

Naming conflicts by ZergrushLOLin smallbusiness

[–]MeanestBossEver 0 points1 point ago

"Can I be sued?" is almost always answered "yes." The more interesting questions are:

  • Will they sue?
  • Do they have a decent case?
  • What should I do about it at this point?

Based on the limited info you've given so far, I'd guess that:

  • They're not interested in suing (b/c they haven't yet)
  • Their case is weak because they're notactive in Canada.
  • Take steps to protect your name in Canada

One additional note: If you do get sued, it often doesn't matter who has the better case. It's who has the deeper pockets.

Anyone else not sure what to say when someone asks, "What do you do for a living?" by AnonForThis0426in Entrepreneur

[–]MeanestBossEver 0 points1 point ago

I like using the term entrepreneur -- it reflects that (1) I own the company, (2) I founded the company and have worked damn hard to get it where it is and (3) the company is small. I'll usually say something like:

"I'm a serial entrepreneur. My current company does _______________"

Scheduling and Customer Information by CogitoNMin smallbusiness

[–]MeanestBossEver 0 points1 point ago

Regardless of what direction you go in, the important thing is to think about the real costs of both keeping the status quo & moving to a new system.

For most business, there are often enough savings in time & avoiding lost business to more than justify a real information management solution.
