What causes light and heavy sleepers? by bmacna12in askscience

[–]ManiacalV -1 points0 points ago

Another question - I am a terribly light sleeper. I have a lot of trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep.

I also think I may have misophonia. I can't stand to hear people brush their teeth, even in TV or movies. I don't eat in the same room as other people because I can't take the sound of people chewing or swallowing. I can't tolerate the sound of someone sneezing, sniffing or snorting their nose and even my cat's meow puts me on edge and makes me irate to the point of elevated heart rate and trembling if it continues. Even the sound of a paintbrush or hairbrush puts me on edge like nails on a blackboard.

I'm wondering if there could be any correlation between the two? Even a the tiniest creek of a floorboard wakes me up most of the time and I usually wake up between several times a night.

I used to love Steam sales, but I've nearly bought almost every damn game that isn't brand new and so I already own everything on sale.

My snake got out of her feeding tank and is now loose in the house. Is there any way in hell to locate a snake before she gets herself in trouble? by p4lm3rin AskReddit

[–]ManiacalV 3 points4 points ago

Be VERY careful opening drawers. My buddy's snake got out and crawled halfway into a drawer from the back. When his mom opened the drawer it basically cut the snake in half.

Which perfectly good book was most brutally murdered by its movie adaptation? by sage_jochin AskReddit

[–]ManiacalV 0 points1 point ago

Well, I've got two. The first one was directed by the guy who did Silverado, The Accidental Tourist, The Big Chill and Body Heat among others. Yet, even the acting talents of Morgan Freeman, Thomas Jane, Jason Lee and Timothy Olyphant couldn't save the steaming pile of horseshit that is Steven King's Dreamcatcher.

My other hated movie-from-a-book is Timeline, especially the part where they replaced several hundred words in the book explaining how the devices worked, how you body is destroyed when you transfer, how they didn't even build the return devices (they assume another lab in another parallel universe did) with, in the movie, the term 'wormhole'.

Mirasol has a technology I've been interested in for a while now. It's based on, if I remember correctly, butterfly wings. It can do video, too, albeit at a reduced frame rate.

Is that in Lassen, CA? (I think that's where this was)

My girlfriend's brother lives out there and she said that this little shop always puts up Chuck Norris facts.

I just noticed the 'Pinterst' bit at the bottom... does this company reserve the right to reprint Pinterst pins?

Note to self: Don't use oil to grease baking pans by Sp4min Cooking

There's an saying along the lines of "If cooking is an art, baking is a science" which I always thought of as being a big silly. Yes, measurements are more precise in baking, and, yes you should take into account for humidity and such. This leads me to rephrase the adage to "Baking is an art and cooking is Alchemy."

Anyway, you can cook without knowing what you're doing. If you're learning and experimenting, it's better than being great at it, I think. You're on the fun part! I stopped working in restaurants years and years ago and now just cook for fun and am quite happy about it. I've mixed my passion for cooking and my love of photography together and just have a blast now instead of being bored by after cooking all day at work. Just don't ask me to do any web design...

It's like making mud pies when you're a kid, except better, tastier and cooler.

Feel good because you don't know what you are doing and get to have that "AHA!" moment every single day!

THis is exactly what you do. If you've ever seen anyone who has some experience baking, you'll invariably see them smacking the side of their pan as they rotate it.

This video shows not only how to grease and flour a pan, but hot to cut round parchment paper. If you have any, using parchment paper is also helpful - unlike wax paper, parchment paper pretty non-stick and you usually find it treated with silicone so that it's very slippery and resistant to high heats.

Those look great. Have to check my local shops.

I've been really, really loving Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin' lately, too. Probably my favorite beer at the moment.

I'm still using the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen I bought on your advice! I've bought several of those pens and have gifted quite a few, too, since getting my first one.

Thanks again!

(So, about a week ago I got tired of trying to be all meticulous and neat and stop using the penbrush like a normal pen. Also, I had a few Commodore Perrys under my belt. I started doodling crap like this. That penbrush is just too fun to play with.)

Hey Cap'n!

I think the grey wash adds a lot of depth and a nice organic feel (also, if you are hand inking those boxes, I'm sorry for your upcoming tendinitis/carpal tunnel syndrome).

Is this all penbush or are you working digital? It certainly looks like you're doing it all with pen and I think it looks fantastic.

Sometimes it is important to remember that cops are people too. Some are bad, but some are awesome. by formcheckin pics

See, if he bought it for his wife, it would be her saying "DON'T BE A FUCKING BITCH". If he was in an unhappy relationship he would have bought one for himself, to wear in front of his wife. Most likely, his wife probably had the kind of sense of humor that would enjoy that tee.

Mind you, as a cop he probably was in an unhappy relationship, don't get me wrong! My own father was a police Lieutenant and got divorced when I was a child. I also met a lot of cops that worked with him - we even got a dog from one so his wife wouldn't get it in his divorce. Mind you, my grandad was a cop and had a great relationship with my grandma, but generally cops have a pretty high divorce rate (2nd highest profession) and I assume spousal and child abuse rates, too.

Pretty much a shitty, stressful job where your ass is on the line, you make a pretty low salary for the stress and danger involved, you're nearly guaranteed a divorce or relationship problems, when people aren't lying to you, shooting or stabbing you, mouthing off to you, demeaning you, blaming you or berating you, they're begging you to put yourself between them and a dangerous situation. (At least if you're working in or near the inner city.)

Looks pretty suburban and, hell, you guys were the original site of the Manhattan Project and are home to Oak Ridge National Laboratory, "the largest multipurpose lab in the Department of Energy's National Laboratory system" as well as the Spallation Neutron Source and "Jaguar", "one of the world's most powerful scientific supercomputers". Seems to me you're more like a Batarang filled pouch hanging off the ole' Bible Belt.
