You see, a long time ago, a strange and deranged old man started calling himself "the Doctor." The BBC built a business around this 'Doctor'. As time went on, the myth grew, so the BBC conveniently 'lost' a lot of footage of the early cult. The BBC made so much money from the cult following that they changed the paradigm of this 'Doctor' from a singular prophet-like person into a neverending stream of reincarnations, as in Buddhism.

There are still remnants, bits and pieces of information about this first 'Doctor' still around today, but large chunks are forgotten. Some trifles of myth and mysticism have been blown out of proportion as artifacts of this new cult: Places of gathering for the Doctors companions were made, like churches, to have a maximum amount of space on the inside. Scepters emitting sound are today in the hands of the steadily 'reincarnated' doctor as a sign of power and might, as scepters have always been in the hands of kings an popes.

In short, the BBC lied, because the masses following the cult believe that every reincarnated doctor is a reincarnation of the first one, going around the world and universe and performing miracles. From the few pieces of information (called 'episodes' by the cult) we know that the first Doctor never wielded as much power as his reincarnations do -- a fact which the blind followers choose to ignore.

As science progresses, the Doctor becomes a god of the gaps: Where even until recently his 'enemies' have been bumbling idiots or couldn't traverse stairs, the BBC's claims about the Doctors' interactions with his enemies have never been recorded for some reason. With the advent of CCTV and cellphone-cameras, the cult has invented an enemy called 'Silence' which can, conveniently not be seen or remembered. They're grasping for straws before the scientific method.

The BBC wants your money and your blind following. That is all. Stop waiting for this 'Doctor' that will never show up and 'take you on adventures.'
