People of Reddit, what is/are something(s) that you know you will regret for the rest of your life? by awkward_peachin AskReddit

[–]Lionhearted09 5 points6 points ago

Because only horrible people hurt others and good people have never caused anyone any pain....

That just sounds selfish to me. It's like saying, "As long as I turn out alright by the decisions I make it's fine no matter how much it may hurt other people."

I find the decisions I regret aren't the ones that made me a better or worse person but the ones where I hurt others.

Doesn't learning from your mistakes require regret? I mean without regret you can't consider them wrong and if you don't consider your actions wrong how can you ever learn from them? If you learned from your mistake that implies you regretted the decision you made.

I know I have learned a lot from reddit but I'm not a better person for finding reddit. It's hard to give it up when it can inform you even if it has been the cause of missed opportunities.

I often find that people that say this don't really mean it or don't understand regret. Regret is feeling sorry for something you did wrong. So either you have never done anything wrong OR you don't feel sorry for doing wrong which is a lot worse than living with regret. I would also think and hope that if you had your life to live over, knowing everything you do know, that being in the exact same situation again where you were wrong, you would make a different decision. That is why regret can be good because one day you may find yourself in a similar situation as one where you were wrong and from that regret you can choose to make a better decision, becoming a better person. Without regret, you will keep making the same bad decisions over and over. It is only the man who wishes to better himself that accepts his regret and uses it to become a better person.

ATT U-verse - I got duped by gwcentin Atlanta

[–]Lionhearted09 -2 points-1 points ago

I did this and love it.

AT&T hired three marketing companies in Atlanta to distribute their U-Verse. They go door to door trying to get people to sign up. It's legitimate even if this guy wasn't honest. I have every channel you can get through U-Verse for $52 a month. I wasn't charged an instillation fee or a maintenance fee.

To Educated Theists: Part #2 by ShadowStarshinein DebateReligion

I don't think there is a minimal amount of knowledge that you have to know to be justified in your belief. You don't have to know apologetic, church history, or have even read the Bible. All you have to know is that God is real.

For me to be justified in my beleif that there is a large oak tree in my front yard, I don't have to know the molecular make up of its cells, how its leaves change colors, how it grows, what it needs to survive, etc. I can just know it is there and know that it exists and be justified in that. In the same way, others don't have to know apologetic, church history, have Bible verses memorized, or attended seminary to be justified in knowing God is there.

How many of you have refused marriage proposals and why did you do it? How did it happen? by SavvyVeein AskReddit

[–]Lionhearted09 0 points1 point ago

It doesn't always work out like that. My gf constantly talked about marriage. She even went with her sister and picked out the ring and then me and her sister went and got the ring. She said no to my proposal. Sometimes, it is unavoidable.

Ah I see your debate technique. Just call anyone that disagrees with you a liar and say it didn't happen in the place you grew up so it must not happen anywhere.

Just because two people commit to spending their lives with each other and sign a piece of paper does not mean it is a marriage. Likewise two atheist can fulfill the Biblical purpose of marriage without knowing it.

To Christians: All Sin is premeditated and most sin is taking advantage of forgiveness. by TheIceCreamPiratein DebateReligion

I agree. I think many many Christians convince themselves they can do bad things because they don't think there will be consequences to their actions.

The part about not being able to wear any religious symbols is about my current job in sales. The stuff about prayer at graduation was about when I was still in school.

Bristol, TN and now live/work in Atlanta.

and during Jesus time there was a lot of persecution going on but he never appealed to the government or protested actions or even took legal action against anyone. All he did was love everyone he met and by that he changed the world. In the same way if we love everyone we encounter we have to believe we can change the world too.

Yea I should just go in and quit my job tomorrow. I am sure another one is easy to find. It's simple to just switch employers and contact the ACLU because someone told me I can't bring a Bible to school? That seems like a lot of effort for something that isn't a big deal to really anyone.

Yes because news organizations are just dying to pick up a story about a small company asking employees to not wear religious symbols to promote office unity. I hear they have an entire department just for these kinds of stories at CNN

Yes and in the Biblical view sex and marriage is the same thing. If you have sex with someone you are married to them. There is no difference.

Really because I was told I couldn't pray at my graduation or else my diploma would be withheld, I was told that Bibles were banned from my school and unless it was a book from the library or a text book we couldn't have them and my current work bans all religious symbols which includes crosses around the neck so no we can't do those things without serious consequences.

haha that is an excellent debate technique. Just call anyone you disagree with a liar so you don't have to address the issue.

But marriage is a religious thing. Committing to someone for the rest of your life is not a religious thing but marriage is.
