2012 vs. 1984: Young adults really do have it harder today - The Globe and Mail by Tarretin worldnews

[–]LesFriends 0 points1 point ago

Same here man; I too am currently contemplating further academia so cheers on that.

But what really bums me out, is when I see people complain that the reason why college graduates are having trouble finding work, or trouble finding higher paying work, is because they studied things like Latin; when we are two examples of people who studied "workable" majors (I use workable here, because I know perceptions, and Finance and anything with Engineering are very sought after majors in their time) and still having trouble in that way.

Haha, lucky you friend. But seriously, experience goes a long way, and because I was fortunate and focused solely on school and never worked, it was a tough position to graduate and have a resume that could only show I was a volunteer for my school, haha. But alls well that ends well, and with this current position on my resume, I'm pretty confident in my prospects moving forward.

So cheers!

That's the way I look at it. Honestly, I know my first post may not be indicative of this, but I don't have a jaded world view like most my age; esp with this current position being my first ever job, I do enjoy it, I have a terrific boss, and I am finally gaining real world application/experience to couple with my education.

Though it is tough to reassess your priorities, like when my padre graduated from university (he was sent to school in the US from Paraguay) he was able to buy a house, get married, have a child, etc. Times change, I understand that, (I mean I studied "the dismal science" haha).

Haha, bummer man, whenever I check the various virginia craigslists I'm usually bummed out by inflated prices//poor conditions. You got yourself a nice find

I graduated in '11 from a University with a degree in Economics and Finance. I maintained a GPA well enough to graduate Summa Cum Laude; and ((I know I'm incredibly lucky here)) but I graduated with no student debt (Thank you so much Mom and Dad).

Even with no student debt, a B.A. from a top liberal arts university, and an entry level position in analysis (I make around 11/hr, and its also worth note this is my first ever job), I cannot afford rent anywhere (housing prices, even rent prices here in this part of Virginia are ridiculous, to live somewhere that isn't section 8, and in a moderately nice neighborhood, you're looking at around a grand to twelve hundred + utilities).

I know how incredibly fortunate I was to have parents who were able to pay for my school, and allow me few luxuries other kids my age didn't have; but even without student debt it is incredibly hard as a young adult to maintain any sort of standard of living resembling that of my parents//grandparents. With a tough job market, (which employers love because they can keep lower wages, stretch employees thin, etc. because they understand the fear in employees); rising costs across all markets, it really is tough for those of us recent grads.

Also don't get me wrong, I am incredibly thankful for the position I am in now; as it pays well better than some of the positions I see, and I am gaining experience (something I lacked previously); and I am not one of those kids who when they graduated thought they would shoot right to the top of a corporate ladder by any means; it just is tough from going to being on top of world when I graduated, thinking the world really was my oyster, to not even being able to afford a place to live.

I know my story might not be the same as everyone else's, just my two cents.

Safe Tennis isn't "real tennis", you don't get the full game while playing safe Tennis

Though, TTD's can be a real pain, like that damn tennis elbow.

What kind of bums me out, is I started off great, you know? I completed my pokedex in Red, Yellow, Gold, and Silver; However, with each new gen I moved toward team building//breeding than the fun of "catching them all".

I have plans to go back however :) i kinda get ragged on sometimes haha for how much Pokemon means to me

Haha, the funny thing is, all of this stuff, is from me not throwing anything out also. I grew up an only child, so my parents would always be like, "Why do you need gold and silver?" hahaha

With the exception of Red, which I just bought, and the two pinballs, the collection up there comes straight from my childhood.

What's funny is I saw your collection a bit ago, sent it to my friend and said, well this makes mine look like complete shit. haha

Congrats on it though, its def amazing, and I'm envious. Pokemon is something very near and dear to my heart.
