Whoa, wait, I didn't even know it existed, I thought this one was LDR, haha. I didn't pay attention to the full name of subreddit. I'm confused.

What german books would you recommend reading? by BlueElephantsin germany

Die Geschichte von Herrn Sommer von Patrick Süskind. It's a rather short book but a nice, touching story. Reminds me a little bit of The Catcher in the Rye.

I think a few questions regarding those who have been in an LDR but ended the distance part of their relationships should be included. A lot of people get hooked up on /r/LDR (because it's an awesome community) and don't leave after they move in together/closer.

Other questions could be how frequently you communicate, would you like more/less frequent communication, do you text/talk on the phone/skype, those kind of stuff.

Thanks for doing this again!

Heh, it sounds like you're wearing some heavy armour under the dress. I'm glad you got it under control, I hope they're comfy!

That is a really pretty dress. You are so lucky to have a friend do this for you. :)

I don't know if you've realized this but the dress seems a bit see through. It could be awkward if you realize it on the wedding day and have a mini-crisis, so just letting you know. (I'm not insulting the dress btw, just a simple heads up.)

Congratulations with your wedding!

My mom is a hijabi and her face gets a very distinct tan during summer months. The area covered stays milky white and the rest gets a latte shade, so I suppose the hijab has a give and take on the embarrassment scale. :)

I'm glad your laser treatments worked for you, inshallah it will stay the way you like it.

I used to secretly hope for one as well but one day I had enough (after looking at all the cute rings on Etsy) and mentioned it to my boyfriend. We talked about it and decided we would like something to symbolize our commitment to each other. We bought each other matching rings, only difference being mine had my birthstone on it. We exchanged them on Christmas day 2010 and have been wearing them ever since.

If you want one, ask for one! (This is assuming your SO can't read minds, if s/he can, that's so cool! :) )

I think you can wear it on whichever hand/finger you want. I have one and I wear it on my right ring finger.

She said there was more hair under her chin, on her neck and she had sideburns. So, basing my guess on that, the area that her hijab covers is the most hairy bit. The hijab doesn't cover your face and her face probably didn't have that much hair.

Edit: In another comment, she posted this picture to show where she had laser treatment on her face, which matches what I was saying.

Some tips that help me on my weight reduction journey by LadyNuringtonin loseit

I saw great improvement with my swimming as well. The first time I swam, I was only able to swim 750 metres in an hour. I had to stop after each lap to catch my breath. Now I can do 2KMs easily but 2.5 if I push myself and not feel the need to stop. I just swim front crawl, nothing special. I'm waiting to lose a few more pounds until I go back to the gym and start working out with a personal trainer. I can't wait to do weights!

LEAVE SIR TOM JONES OUT OF IT!!! I love that guy! BTW, I'm not from the UK and I've never seen him before. First time I saw him, I thought he was black. I'm quite surprised to know he's welsh considering how orange/latte he is.

I don't like the episodes leading up to Ross & Rachel's break up and a few of the ones after, so Season 3 Episodes 12-17ish. First of all, Ross annoys the crap out of me with his clinginess, insecurity and jealousy. Then they break up with a loooong fight (don't even get me started on Ross' cheating) and then you have the awkward phase within the group trying to figure out how they deal with everything. Too much drama for my taste.

It bothers me a great amount.

All of the professors talk about what we need to do as students to enrich our university experience as it's all up to us and how it's all independent studying, so everything relies on us. But the whole university side of this education is SO DRY. NBS is quite big, most of my lectures are >200 people. During lectures, there is no participation or discussion at all. It doesn't even matter if you read the material before hand. I understand that it may not be possible to have people participate in a crowded lecture but then you have the seminars where the only thing that matters is you show up. People are so hesitant to participate most of the time, so again, you don't get a discussion going. You also do not gain anything by doing the worksheets beforehand. Basically, you do not gain anything by being a responsible, good student. All that matters is that you show up and you don't fail at your exams. How low are those standards? How do they expect to have passionate students who care about their studies when students don't have an incentive to do anything until finals time?

I know this must sound like a nerd's complaint, but after my university experience in my previous school, I really can't help myself. There we had smaller classes, teachers knew our names and we got participation points, which effected our final grades. Everyone was more passionate and it showed, because everyone wanted to express their opinions. Classes were actually fun, even though we had to do 50-100 pages of reading for each class twice a week.

By the way, that is not to say I don't enjoy my studies at the UEA. I've learned so much and so many useful things this year! My only issue is that it's very one-sided and not very community based. This was quite a big rant, sorry about that but I hope what I say makes sense.

Hijabi speaking her mind... by AyyyP728in Hijabis

I understand you better now. I totally agree with you that rape and women's clothes are different issues. We shouldn't blame the victim because of her clothing choices and so on but unfortunately, so many people do.

Hijabi speaking her mind... by AyyyP728in Hijabis

[–]LadyNurington 5 points6 points ago

I think it is a very relevant argument. I'm not sure if you've heard about the "Slut Walks" but these were protests reacting to a Toronto police officer's comments on how to be safe/avoid danger as he said "women shouldn't go around dressed like sluts if they want to be safe."

There is a lot of victim blaming when it comes to issues like this. If a woman is raped, it's always "Well, you shouldn't have dressed provocatively, you shouldn't have gone out late, you shouldn't have walked in a certain neighborhood at a certain time..." and the list goes on and on. Especially in our cultures women are always taught to avoid danger but men are never taught to not create it. If something happens, it's her failure at avoiding the situation. Even wearing the hijab is marketed in such a false way. I've heard it many times that women should wear the hijab so that men aren't tempted into sin. I'm not anti-hijab and I understand we should be modest, but it drives me crazy when annoying old aunties go around saying we should wear hijabs for this reason. It shouldn't be my or any women's responsibility to make sure men aren't tempted into sin. Everyone is responsible for their own actions and what they say is just oppressive towards women. Do you know what I mean??

Sorry, this turned into a longer comment than I expected but I'm very sensitive about these issues.
