I'[M] 38, and I just found my taste for beer. by stilesjpin beer

Ever tried Tank 7 from Boulevard? Great summer beer, but at 8.5% ABV, it can really sneak up on you.

Best baseball video game ever made, hands down. I'd pay $15 just for the batting game mode.

Why is it you think Oakland will generate more save opportunities than KC?

Standings Discussion - May 14, 2012 by MLB_Game_Discussionin baseball

[–]KinnerMode 0 points1 point ago

Problem is, our pitching doesn't figure to get much better. Duffy was really our only young arm with significant upside, and he's out for the season. The rest of these guys -- well, we know about what we're going to get, with maybe the exception of Paulino. He has a chance to be better than most think, but I still have a hard time believing that he's going to be great.

Honestly, with the bullpen firing on all cylinders, I'd like to see Crow go to AA or AAA for a couple of weeks, get stretched out and take a shot at the roatation. He's gotta be better than Mazzarro...

They're not doing it because they think you're unaware. They're doing it because, as fans of a team that has occupied the basement of the division for a long, long time, they just can't fucking believe it.

I felt the same way in 2003 when the Royals were 7 up at the break, and I'm really, really rooting for the O's to keep it up. I suspect the same is true for a lot of fans of small market teams all over the country.

To build on Astrid05's comments, not only shouldyou not begrudge O's fans their enjoyment -- as a Tribe fan, you should be loving it, too. They're living the small market dream, dude. Let's all enjoy the ride.

Incorrect. The correct answer was Country Breakfast.

Which pitcher had the best pitch in baseball history? by bookey23in baseball

[–]KinnerMode 0 points1 point ago

Can't find it now, but there's a quote from a Buck O'Neil book where he basically says that Paige threw his fastball like, 70-80 percent of the time, but he had like 15 different names for it.

What not-so-great baseball players did you love growing up? by ThrillhouseVHin baseball

[–]KinnerMode 4 points5 points ago

How much do I love shitty Royals? Let me count the ways: Chico Lind, Hipolito Pichardo (with a name like that, how can you not like him), Ken Harvey, Wally Joyner, Mike Montgomery and the all time greatest non-great player ever -- Matt Stairs.

What is this style of architecture (and design) called? by InTheSpherein architecture

[–]KinnerMode 1 point2 points ago

The interior wouldn't be about life, it would be about every tiny scuff, smudge and spot on the perfectly white surfaces that cover the living space. The thing about having something so perfectly clean (in terms of design) is that you have to keep it so perfectly clean (in terms of...Windex or something. I dunno.).

What is your favorite food at your team's stadium? by kellertheimpalerin baseball

[–]KinnerMode 1 point2 points ago

Meh, I'd much rather just go to Oklahoma Joe's and bring it in.

FTFY

I agree with your sentiment, though, and wouldn't mind if they brought back Stroud's either. Fried chicken and cinnamon rolls during a baseball game...hard to beat.

Either the ribeye stack sandwich (steak sandwich with cheddar, bacon, sauteed mushrooms, BBQ sauce, lettuce and tomato) or the hot dog topped with BBQ brisket.

Creative Directors who make >$300k but still wear converse all stars and ratty jeans: keeping it real or poseur douchebags? by skepticaljesusin advertising

[–]KinnerMode 1 point2 points ago*

The French dishes that the western world considers the epitome of fine food come from peasant food as well. Coq au vin, beef bourguignon, ratatouille -- all were enjoyed by French peasant families long before they were ever seen in a fine dining establishment. I think what's occuring in today's American food scene is a natural evolution, and made possible because we finally have a food history and culture that's deep enough to be worth exploring.

Part of this phenomenon also, I think, comes from nostalgia – and the same likely goes for the CDs you speak of. Dressing in jeans and chucks, as many of those guys probably did when they were growing up, gives you a subconscious sense of youth, of happiness and of place. And in a profession where it's their job to be able to think in different, novel and original ways – in many ways to think like a child – those feelings of yesterday can help you today in very real ways.

We're less than 10% of the way into the baseball season. To judge them now is completely ridiculous.

What is your proudest moment as a fan? by iRideNomisin baseball

[–]KinnerMode 1 point2 points ago

As a Royals fan, it's been almost all downs and no ups for me, but there are a few moments that still stand out. Watching Greinke dominate in 09 was unbelievable. Witnessing the OF of Damon/Beltran/Dye was amazing. And to this day, my most fond memory of my childhood is watching George Brett's final game live with my father on a chilly September night at The K. That one will rank up there forever as one of my fondest.

Prince Steals a base. Also, Quintero will be mocked incessantly by his teammates. by ZayK47in baseball

[–]KinnerMode 4 points5 points ago

Hey man, we're only like 8% of the way through the season. Chill. Does it suck right now? Yes, it does. Do playoff teams lose more than 5-6 in a row? Almost never. But Royals fans should know that we aren't a playoff team this year -- we're shooting for .500 ball. This will happen. It sucks that it's happening so early, and it gives us less room for error down the road, but it's not back-breaking. We'll be OK -- especially after we get Cain and Sal back, and Montgomery and Giovatella up from the minors. Giving up on this team in April (or May or June) is premature and frankly a little bit ridiculous. Relax.

Great in CF for sure, but I'm not so sure about him as a hitter. Needs to learn to hit something other than a fastball. Not saying he can't or won't -- just would like to see it sooner rather than later (or never).

[–]KinnerMode 2 points3 points ago

Humberto Quintero, who was brought in and touted as a no-stick defensive specialist who is technician behind the plate, has been WAY below average defensively so far. Not only did Prince steal on him, he also failed to block 3 pitches tonight that led to 2 runs. We lost by 2. We need Sal back, and soon.

Does anyone else prefer cocktails to beer? by NewCordCutterin cocktails

[–]KinnerMode 4 points5 points ago*

I think your aversion to beer probably is partly due to limited exposure. I'm mostly a gin and rye drinker myself, but I also drink my fair share of craft beer, and can tell you that the variety and depth are just as present in good beer as they are in cocktails. Find a liquor store that does sampler packs and grab an IPA, an Imperial Stout, a Scotch Ale, a Saison, a Tripel and a wheat. Done well, all those styles are great, but none of them taste anything like the others.

And while beer doesn't offer the kind of creativity that cocktail making does, I personally get a rush from finding new beers that I've never tried before. And it also makes traveling more fun. Since most good beers are only available regionally, going to a different part of the country means a whole new world of beers to discover.

If our starting pitching can be even close to what they've been so far, this season could get fairly interesting...

They've won their share of games...just never the really big ones. The basketball team has never made a Final Four and the football team has never managed to make a BCS bowl game. Missouri fans have also had more than their share of legendary heartbreakers. The 5th down, the kicked ball, Tyus Edney and Norfolk State all immediately come to mind. Every day. Again and again. Sigh.
