As Someone Else Said: Elo Hell is a TIME, Not Place (RANT) by Kienanin leagueoflegends

[–]Kienan[S] 0 points1 point ago

Yup, trolls gonna troll. It was just frustrating to be the target of said trolls five games in a row. Oh well, happens. I relaxed and chilled, now I'm headed back in. Once more, onto the beach. Wait.

Thanks. Guess it isn't just me. Sorry for your pain. Hey, at least I learned something; won't be playing that late again, it's just not worth it to me, considering I can just play earlier. Less pain all around.

[SNS] SIGN UP TO PLAY! by gimpsamuraiin summonerschool

[–]Kienan 0 points1 point ago

Upvoted.

Question: Have the last week's signups been cleared? I think the form says Wednesday evening, but that's EST so I guess that already happened? I assume from this post that signups are being accepted, but I thought I'd double check. Had an amazing time last week, hoping I can get in again. Thanks!

Starting to play Swain again, shockingly I am terrible, hints? by DocBananasin summonerschool

[–]Kienan 0 points1 point ago

Well, if new (or returning) to a champ, I suggest you look him up on solomid.net or similar, it's always helpful. You don't have to follow it to the letter, but it gives good general knowledge.

Now, as to specific advice. Swain's passive gives him mana sustain, if you manage it well. I advise going either 21/9/0 or 9/21/0 depending on playstyle and what your team needs; you don't need the 9 in Utility. Level Torment first, then Nevermove. Some people suggest maxing Nevermove last, but I like it second, especially against a pushing opponent; it will give you the power to push back. You can more easily land your snare if you slow them with Laser Bird first. Unless they are a mobile champ like Ahri, you'll either force a flash or land your snare.

Early game you want to harass when you can, but your main goal is to stay in lane and farm up until you can buy Catalyst. After you have it and hit six you are pretty much immovable, which is my favorite thing about Swain. By this point you want to trade very aggressively when you can safely do so, as your sustain will let you win every single trade. You'll be forcing many mids to go back much earlier than they'd like, while you get ahead on levels, farm, and items. After you get RoA and Revolver and defensive items (if needed), you're golden.

Furthermore, remember to autoattack; Swain wants to trade aggressively due to his sustain, and his Torment makes his attacks do twenty percent more damage at max level. Basically, as Swain early you want to play it safe since you don't have sustain yet, but you still want to be a total pest to them when you can. If you're in range hit them with Q+E and an autoattack or two, then back off. Farm up, get items, dominate.

And, you probably know this, but a crucial bit of playing Swain is to not ult for too long. Turn it on for a few birds to gain back some health, then turn it off before it drains too much mana. Then repeat.

Let me know if you have any questions, and sorry if this was somewhat rambling.

Darius Patch Delayed by aheroicvillainin leagueoflegends

[–]Kienan 0 points1 point ago

Wow, if you say so. If that's how you read it, sorry. I meant it rather lightheartedly, honestly. I would have loved it to come out (the graphics update is amazing), but this delay is not a big deal, and I thought my post conveyed that; I even said it was better this way.

Not sure what you're going for with your post, either. 'Selfish,' 'self-absorbed,' 'come off as an adult' (implying I'm not one), and 'butt-hurt.' I'd say I'm none of those things. You use a lot of confrontational language without much need. Just not quite sure what you're getting at...did my post really offend you?

Anyway, have a good day. :)

[SNS] Week 15 Feedback by j41d3nin summonerschool

Perhaps we're just having a miscommunication; No inactivity, the discussion would be streamed. I think it would fit the Summoner School goal very nicely. I think it's very doable. If ten is too long, just five minutes would still add a lot, in my opinion. And if even that is too long just do the Novice and Intermediate, since they/we could use the commentary/advice more anyway. That only adds fifteen minutes to the stream, and I think it's quite valuable.

[–]Kienan 3 points4 points ago

That first comment really rubs me the wrong way; talk about entitled. That's probably some kid and, if not, he certainly acts like one...and should cut that shit out. Dear idiot, Riot don't owe you shit, son.

The second and fourth ones don't bug me too much, I think they might be in a joking manner, and they do have a point: It's really not a surprise. The last few patches have been delayed, that's just a fact. The last one I just don't get. More entitlement, I guess.

The third one is another idiot. While I feel his pain - it's always fun and exciting to see the new patch! - that bit about the PBE being an 'excuse' is ridiculous. It's not an excuse, it's a testing ground. It caught some bugs, it's working as intended. Dur.

Sure there is, start earlier, go later, or cut half an hour off the pre-games. It would be quite simple to schedule ten, or even five minutes of discussion after each game, and it would be incredibly valuable. Well worth the time, in my opinion. This is Summoner School, after all; discussion like that should be a part of it.

Nautilus has been getting alot of attention lately. by Allorimin leagueoflegends

[–]Kienan 79 points80 points ago

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

More seriously, now, I haven't played him much, and not at all in ranked, but he's quite fun. I love him as a support, that chain CC is just crazy. His slow and pull can really help you give your carry kills, especially against less skilled players. He's just super scary in lane.

Janna Ult? by Sungshinein summonerschool

[–]Kienan 0 points1 point ago

Well said, I was about to say something similar. Just today I got Zeke's, since I had Jax top, Nocturne Jungle, and Sivir carry. Sure, Jax is hybridy, but he still loves some lifesteal and attack speed.

Basically, buy what your team needs. I've even seen some people saying to get WotA, but I've never done it myself; it's quite expensive, and situational. Wards, GP10, boots, Oracles, Aegis, and Shurelya's will all usually take higher priority. But, who knows, there might be a team comp where it's the good choice; never count anything out. Personally Aegis/Shurelya's are my main support items, though, most of the time.

Janna Ult? by Sungshinein summonerschool

[–]Kienan 1 point2 points ago

Remember, Janna isn't just her ult. Her shield is strong, and her CC is amazing. Even without the ult you could literally save every single one of your teammates' lives in a single fight. Janna is an amazing support.

Normally I don't mind the delays, but I'm really looking forward to this one. Oh well, it obviously wasn't ready, so this is better than the alternative, by a long shot. Still disappointing, though.

Don't worry though, friends; I'll live.

I just don't get it. by burningshiiitin summonerschool

[–]Kienan 2 points3 points ago

I think it all comes back to your normal Elo. I remember playing with level 30s from when I was around level 25.

OP, if you're playing with people with more wins, take it as a compliment; matchmaking thinks you deserve to play with people of that level.

Pubstomping champs to buy? by slamdringin summonerschool

[–]Kienan 2 points3 points ago

Well, personally I'd pick a champ you enjoy playing, not just one that pub stomps. That said, Lee Sin has quite high skill cap, and can stomp hard. So he fits both your criteria, and might be a good match for you. Plus, he can jungle or top; very versatile champ, rewarding skill.

Yorick totally stomps lane, and I love his sustain. His ult also adds a lot to fights. He's an interesting champ, and very stompy.

Kog is great lategame, but I'm not sure he is really a stomper. I'm unranked myself, but I've heard that low Elo (it's a name, by the way, not an acronym) is all about the early game, as people can get frustrated and surrender early. So, even if you could totally carry late game as Kog, if your team isn't doing well you might not make it there. Which is why I wouldn't consider him a stomper. Yorick and Lee can both dominate lane (or jungle in Lee's case) early, and frustrate the enemy team.

As for general stompers, any sustain top lane (Warwick, Irelia, etc.) can win lane by quite a bit, and assassins (Akali, Talon, etc.) can dominate early. Basically, pick someone who just does not lose lane, or can get lots of kills early.

Janna Ult? by Sungshinein summonerschool

[–]Kienan 1 point2 points ago

Her ult is situational, like all things. If you're confident your team can indeed clean up, sure, don't ult enemies to safety. Letting your carry die to kill the entire enemy team sounds like a good trade to me; a lot of possibilities are opened up by an ace, perhaps you could baron or even win. But if things are looking rough for your team, by all means, push those enemies away, heal up your team a bit, then either reengage with better positioning, or skedaddle...even if you save an enemy or two. If multiple of your carries are getting smashed, save them if at all possible.

Also, take into account what the person in question can do for your team, as well as gamestate; someone with lots of utility like Morgana may be worth more than, say, your jungler, but killing their jungler may open up baron opportunities, or something. Basically, you just have to gauge the most favorable outcome and decide accordingly. Like I said, situational.

As to tornado, it's also situational, but much simpler; if you have the opportunity to charge your tornado, do it. But more often than not you'll just want to use it for the quick CC, either to chase, interrupt, or disengage. You'll mostly cast it without charge, unless you're harassing from the bushes during laning phase.

If you feel like playing a few games, feel free to add me; I play a lot of Janna, but could stand to improve my AD carry, so we could duo bot lane if you wanted.

This is an excellent idea! Perhaps have the commentators join the team Mumble chats after the game and talk to each team. This needs to happen. :)
