I would have guessed a 'level expert' rubik's cube, only twistable whilst in flight.

Proper speed for pattern work? by SenatorKerryin flying

[–]Jolie_Beau 0 points1 point ago

We fly 85kts downwind, then with flaps 10 in reduce to 80kts, abeam go to 1700 RPM. then base you select flaps 20 and reduce to 75kts. then final select flaps 30 and reduce to 65. Short final will be a natural 60 when you round off a bit. Focus on the end of the runway and not on the inside of the plane. Try to make it a competition with the plane. When you are about a wheel's height above the runway (and idle) try to keep the plane flying as long as you can. Don't climb or descend. Every time you feel like it will descend, pull up the nose a little more to keep it level... This way you will lose some more speed. Then when the nose attitude is against the end of the runway you know you have the right attitude (you see that right after rotation too. Anyway, this is one way to try it when you feel you don't have that loving feeling anymore.. Maybe you are overthinking it too. Try to FEEL it again. Hard to help when not sitting next to you but maybe putting it in a different perspective might help. Good luck !

What is your guilty pleasure while flying or aviation related. by hey_suburbiain flying

[–]Jolie_Beau 0 points1 point ago

in general: something similar to yours... After flying on a cold day and stopping at a distant airport to refuel, putting my hands on the cowling which is still warm... I have cold hands a lot and can also enjoy putting them on the dashboard when we have been flying in the sun for a while.. Another guilty pleasure when flying with a student is asking them where they live, and when they answer with their townname, ask them if they know to point it out from the point we are flying... When they start looking around all enthusiastically trying to point it out (and releasing their hand of the throttle) I fail their engine... I love that look on their face where they feel fooled AGAIN :)

Interesting how nobody mentioned serengeti. As far as I know still one of the best brands out there. Not that Ray-Bans or Oakleys will not do, but Serengeti has much more to their lenses. They have multiple great filters in them and the driver-gradient lenses are great for pilots. Years ago I had a job in the glasses industry and would recommend the Serengeti glasses to anyone who can afford them! If you don't like the feel of glasses on your face I would say the silhouette glasses can be very comfortable too. They are made of titanium and very bendy and hard to break. Again, the other brands mentioned are fine, but if you are looking for something extra I would recommend looking at the Serengeti and Silhouette too. Good luck!

Like some allready said, maybe take a lesson. I took a few of my friends flying who had similar fear-of-flying-problems. I assured them that we would be able to land within 5 minutes if they wanted to, and stayed in the area around the airport. I let them do all the flying so they could feel how the airplane was designed to fly. I am not sure if this works for you but who knows. My friends definitely had a blast. I train pilots both FAA and JAA and can guarantee you that training is intense and everything is done to guarantee an extreme level of safety in aviation. The love of my life is also a pilot, and I have to say that everytime we say goodbye when he takes off to go to work, I am more worried when he is in his car on his way over to work than I am when he enters his plane and him and his crew take over a 100 passengers to their destination. You are not the only one with a fear of flying. It's all natural for many people. You can always use google to search for some courses to try and get over your fear too. I hope this helps even a little bit. Take care, and I hope one day you can enjoy flying as much as some of us do!

Edit ADD: I know that your mother saying flying is safer than driving didn't help, but maybe it does help when it comes from a pilot who knows how to drive a car and how to fly a plane ;)
