Is it just me, or did the Super Bowl just not feel like the Super Bowl this year? by Jabukein nfl

[–]Jinno 3 points4 points ago*

I think I agree with your sentiments. A rematch isn't really that great a storyline, especially when it's a perennial great team vs a somewhat oafish team. I feel like it could have been an interesting story if there had been a little more time between. We get reminded yearly about the Tyree catch, and we get reminded yearly about how Brady's won three but hasn't been to the podium since.

Let's just have a little review of the storylines over the past few years:

  • Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Green Bay Packers - Can the Steelers add a 7th Lombardi to their collection? Did Green Bay make the right choice by going with Aaron Rodgers over Favre?
  • Indianapolis Colts vs. New Orleans Saints - Can Peyton Manning put his critics to rest by getting closer to the number of rings that Tom Brady has? Can New Orleans drop their old moniker of the Aints and cement themselves as an elite football team?
  • Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Arizona Cardinals - Can the Steelers make history as the first team to get 6 Vince Lombardi Trophies? Can Kurt Warner find redemption in the Super Bowl by leading the Cardinals to a championship in their first appearance?
  • New England Patriots vs. New York Giants - Can New England finally put to rest all the talk of the 72 Dolphins and be the first Undefeated Super Bowl winners since the institution of a 16 game season? Can the Giants lead by Eli Manning stop the juggernaut that is Tom Brady and the Patriots offense?
  • Indianapolis Colts vs. Chicago Bears - Two time league MVP Peyton Manning finally got the monkey off his back, can he and Marvin Harrison get the championship that has eluded them for so many years? Can the Bears finally win the Lombardi again after such a long drought from the infamous Super Bowl Shuffle?
  • Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Seattle Seahawks - Can the Pittsburgh Steelers win a Super Bowl for the first time since the Steel Curtain team with Terry Bradshaw and show they're as good as the 49ers and Cowboys? Can the Seahawks win the big game in their first ever appearance?
  • New England Patriots vs. Philadelphia Eagles - Can the Patriots win Back to Back Super Bowls and cement themselves as a Dynasty? Can the Philadelphia Eagles win their first championship in the Super Bowl Era in their first appearance since Super Bowl XV?
  • New England Patriots vs. Carolina Panthers - Can the Patriots prove the 2001 Super Bowl wasn't a fluke and win another Super Bowl just two years after the first? Can the Carolina Panthers, who went 1-15 in the 2000 season, find redemption by winning the Super Bowl two years later?
  • Oakland Raiders vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Can Jon Gruden's Buccaneers defeat the team that traded him away at the beginning of the season?
  • New England Patriots vs. St. Louis Rams - Despite losing star quarterback Drew Bledsoe to injury early in the season, the Patriots rallied behind an unknown 6th round draft named Tom Brady. Can they beat two time NFL MVP Kurt Warner and the Greatest Show On Turf?

Psh.. the Super Bowl of the 2006 season was the best game of all time.

Right. 2 time NFL MVP, Super Bowl MVP, holds top 3 passing records for Super Bowls, three appearances with two different teams that have been visibly bad in his absence, added on top the fact that he went undrafted? He seems to me to be a shoe-in for first ballot, especially since the other greats of his time have yet to really retire.

Yeah, but they got the media coverage for being the big market team that nearly had the playoffs slip away from them. They limped into the playoffs with the same record that the Cardinals had when they were called the worst playoff team of all time. (Since trumped by the Seahawks record)

After all the bitching we do about refs, I think we can give them credit for a Superbowl well called, can't we? by cheezedin nfl

Yeah, Manningham dropped a couple on the drive prior the the final one, and then went beast mode on their final drive.

He is a fan! He almost single-handedly was responsible for saving this NFL season because he LOVES the game! His own team lost the Super Bowl on the last play. His favorite team losing the Super Bowl is no different than your favorite team losing...it hurts the players, the owners, and the fans of that team.

To bolster this point, he didn't buy the New England Patriots because he wanted money. He had been a season ticket holder for years, and the owner at that point in time was trying to move them away from Foxboro. So Kraft bought the team outright and kept them there.

He was married to the woman for 48 years. I'm pretty sure a little more than half a year still constitutes recent in this context.

That's because Jerry Jones is a pretty stuck up prick.

I've never heard of Bob Kraft being anything but a pretty standup guy. Saved his franchise from moving and built it into a success all while remaining fairly humble.

Furthermore he sacrificed some of the last moments he could have spent with his wife in order to make sure this season happened. He sacrificed a lot, and to see that sadness out of him breaks my heart.

I thought it was pretty good. Much better than the absolute travesty that was the Black Eyed Peas last year. That butchering of Sweet Child O' Mine made me want to punch a kitten.

I just wish they'd get a band that's popular now to do it. Foo Fighters would be a great choice for next year. They've got hit after hit. You can do some throw backs to Nirvana, too.
