I wondered how long it would be before you did this - apparently the answer was "by the next time I check". Thank you for your service o7

Not sure how much I agree with any particular point, but I'm all for a world in which just travelling from one system to another isn't punishable by immediate destruction by other players.

SNAKER - A DCPU-16 Virus (?) by JenkNekroin dcpu16

[–]JenkNekro[S] 0 points1 point ago*

I basically took Soron's Snake clone and added a "win" condition - after eating 10 fruit, it displays a win screen for a while, then triggers a section of code that modifies the program to cause it to write the same couple lines of code over the entire RAM.

Because it's based on Soron's game, it is targeted at DCPU-16 Studio, and that is the only platform I have tested it on.

EDIT: added a win screen just because

Self replication in 20 bytes of DCPU-16 by gsanin dcpu16

I used this to make something I think is interesting: http://pastebin.com/GZgCpNQ9

Basically in that file is a function you can put anywhere in any code, and if it's called it will basically cause that program to do this. It's mildly obfuscated, in that it looks like it should return normally, but actually modifies one of its calls to "SET PC, 0x0". It could be much more cleverly hidden, but I'm supposed to be doing other work right now '>_>

Just to make sure I'm doing this right, The first char of each line goes 0x8000, 0x8020, 0x8040, 0x8060, ... Right?

Also, I hate it a lot. If we could go ahead and NOT call it that, I would appreciate it.

Hmmm I'll have to work that in... maybe let you define an image name at the top of the file, then store the lines as string literals...

Alright, I wrote a basic command line utility that takes in a file name and prints out the lines of code. I'll add the ability to set an output file and put it online somewhere soon (I have a LOT of work this weekend). In the meantime, enjoy this RedditOS start-up screen in the online emulator :D

Self Modifying Code Example by JenkNekroin dcpu16

[–]JenkNekro[S] 2 points3 points ago

I realized today something that may or may not have already been obvious - if the program instructions are loaded in accessible RAM, then code can modify itself! As such, I wrote a very basic example.

"The next time Donald Trump says or does something stupid, remember that he also did this solid for transgender rights"

Umm... no? Agreeing to follow the rules of the competition, and only after a huge public outcry, is NOT "doing a solid".

New MOBA game charging women lower (real money) prices, giving gender-based combat bonuses. Thoughts? by Celdain GirlGamers

[–]JenkNekro 6 points7 points ago

Without commenting on the developers' attitudes, if this comment accurately describes the system it sounds much better than what I got from the article. Encouraging different groups to mix sounds like a much better idea than specifically trying to attract women by treating them differently.

About That 'Fake Geek Girls' Article... by mewmewkittyin GirlGamers

Am I the only one who feels a little put off by the repeated assumption that I liked fantasy and sci-fi and video games because I was an outcast? I'm about to graduate from USC with a major in game programming, I'm absolutely into all the things people associate with nerd or geeks - but it has nothing to do with feeling rejected by others. I'm pretty much the poster child for privilege, I've been lucky enough to always be surrounded by good people, and I can't say I've ever been bullied.

So why does this post take as unquestioned fact that my interests were "secret forts" to protect myself? Why should a person have to be rejected in reality to love fantasy? I guess it's kind of an atypical experience, but I feel like the assumption that everyone who wants to be part of this culture is only here because we couldn't hack it in the real world isn't really doing anyone any favors.
