I will take caution for sure. Although, I'm a little excited. I'm taking political science and want to be a journalist. Seeing movements in action will be great for my understanding.

I'm a photographer, so I'm sure there will be lots to capture.

Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I know. But it's the only time that worked between university and work.

I love tire... by vamosjin funny

This seems like a good place to post our legendary Bedford Tire. Legend tells that it was hung by natives thousands of years ago (although this is most likely false given the relatively recent invention of the tire).

Sadly it fell down two winters ago. After years of patriotic duty.

RIP Bedford Tire.

I went through IVHQ (International Volunteer Headquarters). They offered really good rates (around $500 for two weeks, including housing and food). I will post further on my experience with them. From what I've heard it's sometimes better to not volunteer through larger NGO's... but fuck it. I can't wait to get there.

Applying was easy. All you need is a few immunizations, police records, ect...

Right now I believe we're going to do the Poon Hill trek. Would you suggest another one over that?

How has it changed?

Some uplifting advice about using higher ISOs. by xcaseyx93in photography

I love shooting handheld at night. As long as you shoot black and white it can look great. The noise (I found) actually adds a lot to the photos. This was taken, handheld, with a D300s.

Happened to me yesterday on a 26 hour train ride from Quebec to Nova Scotia. Ended up sitting next to the person for the entire ride... could not remember her name.

I'm backpacking through Asia next weekend and I'm a really good photographer!

It's weird to say things like this. I always feel like a cunt when I talk about myself in real life.

How is this effect achieved? by Surajkiinin photography

[–]Jegs 2 points3 points ago

I mean small, as in f22 opposed to ff1.8 (I always get mixed up with calling aperture small or large. Large implies open, but, open is a smaller number)

It's a nice photo. But not too hard to take! Get a tripod and get down to some water.

Low iso, small aperture and long shutter speed (probably about 1 to 2 seconds, depending on how much the water is moving)

Oh and a tripod.

Nah, I get what you were doing, and I'm not trying to hate!

In the sun I don't think you'd have a problem, even at 200iso you could probably get away with a shutter of at least 60.

Just feel it would have added more, but, to each his own.

Should have shot this on a smaller aperture, like f22. More things in focus = more interest.

Why do you take pictures? by stinndlerin photography

[–]Jegs 1 point2 points ago

I couldn't say why I do it. I just do.

It's a thing I'm naturally good at, and, hopefully it will supplement my career (certainly not basing a career on it).

Up-vote for Mountain Goats! Anyone interested in poetry should study John Darnell.

Reverse prime lens macro photography subjects by jacobburnsin photography

I took it a few years ago. I was just walking around my backyard and I found weird mossy scums stuff in a small pool. Got nice and close and snapped a few photos. I believe I had a 18-55 with a 35mm held on the end.

I've been doing this for years. Works like a charm. Just take photos of everything. The odder the subject the better. Here are some examples I've taken.

Droplet

Bubbles in a puddle

Pond scum

I'm working at an orphanage in Nepal in two weeks, then backpacking around. Then off to Eastern Europe with my highschool mates before school starts up.
