Any good recipes to use up cranberry pulp? by M4124124in raw

[–]Jeepersca 0 points1 point ago

I made banana muffins for my first time the other day. It was a simple recipe that just added a cup of mooshed banana. Instead of nuts, i replaced that volume with oats instead since I prefer it.

My mother makes all types of breads/muffins, and just replaces that volume - I imagine you could make cranberry muffins quite easily, you just need a muffin tin to do it. And ideally, a mixer, because biting into a lump of unmixed flour is unpleasant.

Her recipe:
2.5 cups flour 1 cup sugar 3.5 teaspoon baking powder (cannot skip this ingredient!) 1 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoon vegetable oil 3/4 cup milk (if out of milk, any yogurt/sour cream type item with a little water will work... that's all milk is anyway, watered down dairy) 1 egg (or 1/4 cup eggbeater) 1 cup mashed banana (or cranberry!) 1 cup nuts (or oatmeal flakes or cooked steel cut oats)

Oven to 350 degrees, grease and flower loaf pan or muffin tin, cook for 55-65 minutes or until poking with a toothpick, the toothpick comes out clean. Greasing a pan: cooking spray works, but can give a metallic aftertaste. A paper towel with a little butter on it works, or crisco. The flour makes whatever you bake pop right out of the container when done.

What containers are you guys using to drink / transport Juice? by solarbangin Juicing

I am sure this might not be a popular answer... but the Idaho university study upon which people base "plastic is bad" data... the study cited....wasn't even a study. It was a paper by an undergrad that the media got a hold of and wouldn't let go.

I don't know where I stand on the issue. I've checked out things like this: http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4060 which appear to disprove the fear. Basically, if you have a plastic bottle made to drink water, it is most likely safe to drink water. If you have a yogurt container, it's safe to store yogurt. If you use that plastic yogurt container to warm food in a microwave, you're in danger, because that plastic wasn't meant to be used in the microwave.

You can misuse plastics, or... get the right one for the job. Some people simply don't like the taste water has after being in plastic, and that argument I will totally buy. Taste is important.

While on a juice fast, how often do you drink juice? by mandolin_geekin Juicing

I'd say the hard part with this is knowing the calories after juicing. I guess on the upside, you could use a calculation based on the raw foods and then know that you're losing some of that in the pulp.

I'm a short female and should be eating about 1200-1350 per day, keeping things under 1200 is a fucking pain. The only way to do it eating regular foods is to really fill up on veggies, so I figure juicing is an easier, quicker, potentially more enjoyable way to do it.

It's fucking awesome. :) You've done an incredible thing, and just from what I've seen today, you're also really active and helpful in this forum. I'm still waiting for my juicer so I'm sort of overloading on info just because I'm excited to start. (Although I noticed in the right hand column a no-juicer way to start with just a blender, I will probably try it before it gets here!)

I do try to make most of my meals 50% or more veggie - I try to use the motto of a portioned bit of lean protein, cut out the processes refined stuff, and volume from veggies, but it's much harder to do at restaurants. Not a lot of restaurants really cater to the fresh produce way of eating.

I figure it's partly the smells of moving things around, getting out the boxes that smell like someplace else (suitcases). We had a cat that was originally abandoned when people moved away and was found hungry and crying at an empty house. Someone brought her to work where my then-boyfriend's roommate agreed to take her. My husband lived with a bunch of guys when I met him in a house that didn't allow cats. They'd shove her outside and shrug "what, that cat? never seen her before, not ours" if the landlord came by, but you know that cat was on the bed every night i stayed over. If she was outside, she'd do this to his window to ask to be let in: http://imgur.com/a/0iKOs

I always figured it was a fear of packing/change/abandonment (though I could be anthropomorphizing). My husband had moved out with me before the rest of the guys moved out. We had agreed to take her once they moved. Once they started packing, the cat went nuts. She paced, chattered, wailed... we actually came to get her early because the packing seemed to stress her out so bad. She always got nutty when you'd pack for something.

I saw your website, do you have a place where you document how it felt in more of a narrative form? the challenges, the benefits, things you noticed? I love that you have the spreadsheet for download. That was awesome, way to think ahead tracking what it cost you to do this, too.

During your 2 weeks off - it sounds like you still juiced at least 2 meals? What do you think caused the weight gain, was your diet during that time somewhat out of control or in some way out of proportion? I was considering doing the juicing but eat dinner plan the Jointhereboot.com website details. I'm wondering what you think might have hurt not helped during the two weeks that you were essentially doing that.

I bought mine at an REI - a sporting goods store. You will often find it in the cycling section. Or... I guess you could order online.

By 1/2 a kale do you mean half of a head of it? How much celery, a whole head/stalk (whatever you call the whole thing)?

Are you getting enough fruits/veggies? I'm not going to go on the full 60 day thing, but I am getting a juicer to get more healthy stuff into my diet. I watched this and just couldn't stop watching: Fat, Sick, and Dying.

I don't know if you've ever tried it, but if you get "Glide," the runner's gel that helps with chafing... it stays on all day or evening so you can wear a pretty dress, no chaffing (and also no swishing fabric noise). Even on hot days.

I don't think either statement is absolute. My cat is fairly independent yet friendly and talkative during the day... but at night... I sleep on my side curled up, and my kitty does nothing but purr and curl up at my belly, under the covers. All night long I have an arm around her on that soft, underbelly bunny-soft fur, and if I wake up she purrs til I go back to sleep. She doesn't do this with my husband. My dog would probably do that if I let him, but as he doesn't smell like gingerbread the way my cat seems to, that option isn't on the table.

Our cat has a sticker on his file that says... no joke... "violent offender." Last time I picked him up after dropping him off, they made ME get him out of the wall kennel he was in and into his carrier. He was growling, hissing, and slapping the front of the cage, all at once, i was so embarassed...like my kid was a biter or something.

All I did was pick up the carrier and crack the door and he leaped into it, never biting me and rubbing me while still screaming at the vet techs. So embarassing. Now he gets the kitty gas box before procedures. Sigh.

If I stay instead of dropping him off, he behaves. Otherwise...

Is removing the pulp to keep your stomach from having to do any... um, for lack of a better description... chewing?

So you leave a lot of your items out rather than worrying about refrigerating them? I guess apples and carrots and such don't really need refrigeration.

Dude, that's awesome! You should write more (unless you've done a larger post already that I didn't see). Did you feel hungry ever? Do you make enough juice that you are "full"? Does it fill you up?

Do you feel better now? After 30 days, apart from whatever weight loss, do you feel more clear? Can you see a difference in your health not just your weight?

with strong juicers you can juice all sorts of veggies... I'm guessing he juices them, if he did the 60 day juice fast.

A friend of mine has one that came with recipes, none of which I would have come up with on my own.

What she made for me: bunch of kale, a few carrots, an apple, a beet, half an unpeeled lemon (her juicer is a monster), a couple left over grapes and an inch of ginger. The end result was amazing, it was like a light, sweet juice that was vaguely familiar but unplaceable. Who would have thought that combination would be so good.

If you check out www.rebootyourlife.com website for their recipes. It's based on the Australian who did a documentary on health and benefits of juicing (you can watch it free on Hulu if you haven't, it's called Fat, Sick, and Dying... I couldn't stop watching it). The website has recipes from the more fruit smoothie idea to a much more vegetable intensive way so that you are certain you are getting in the nutrients of several veggies throughout the day.

I hear a lot of people say with juicing you lose the good stuff. You actually get a ton of the good stuff, and you can find creative ways to use the run off - making bread/muffins, saving it for stock (vegetable only), use it to bulk out soups or hamburger patties. I think it's true, you do lose some of the good stuff, but you also gain the ability to take in far more micronutrients (the uncooked, raw, unprocessed things your body needs to be healthy) than you might if tasked with downing nothing but raw veggies.

EDIT: Looks like israel_torres did the 60 day juice fast from the documentary, I'm guessing they have some kick ass recipes in that list.

We have a noisy-as-fuck Torbi that gives you a play by play of everything she's doing. So when she makes a break for it and escapes... well, the one time I caught her she was so excited she was meowing nonstop and giving away her jail break. It was the one time I was glad she doesn't really have an inside voice.

we make our speed eater eat separately... and occasionally stick slow eater in a separate room with their food to finish up so speed reader can be returned to some freedom. (or lock up the grazers food until they complain about being hungry again).

lol, sorry, odd humor. Biblical reference, where the bible says a woman is "unclean" when menstruating and is required to go sit in a hut for a few days, then can't return to be around other people until she gives two doves to the temple. I thought it looked like... well... like a hut you might exile some unclean person to go sit in.

Icky joke aside, it looks awesome! You guys look like you assembled a kit, not built from scratch.

EDIT: fixed awkward diction.

Mine are indoor only. The way they launch full tilt at birds outside and crash into screens/glass...leads me to believe any such creature within the house would be constantly at risk of being hurt.

When I was young, I had cats and I had a hamster, but it wasn't quite the pet that I'd leave out unattended, nor would i let it get rambunctious and run around. The one time it did get out, a cat found it, and the poor thing was "lucky" that this cat liked to play with it's food so much that all Hammie got was tossed around (and probably a heart arrhythmia). I'm fearful that the way chins like to run and jump and stretch their legs they'd attract prey instincts and be in danger.

EDIT: plus, one more pet and my husband might divorce me. :)
