Non-Americans who have visited the US: What surprised you the most about the US, and what surprised you the least? by jumbletonin AskReddit

[–]Isodus 2 points3 points ago

I feel exactly this, I'm from southern California and am currently living abroad and the thing I miss the most is a burrito... or any really Mexican food for that matter. The people here think I'm weird.

What practice would you engage in regularly if it weren't so socially unacceptable? by thebanisterslidein AskReddit

[–]Isodus 0 points1 point ago

Maybe I can get away with it because I'm in college, but even when I'm out with friends I just throw my stuff in my backpack.

Whats your "Fuck I'm not a kid anymore." moment? by Trolls-Gone-Wildin AskReddit

[–]Isodus 1 point2 points ago

Something my mom used to use on me when I was a kid and she didn't have all the answers. She would say to me "I don't know, but I know how to find out." and we'd go to the library and check out books. Now you could probably look stuff up online, but teaching your kids how to find the answers is in essence having all the answers for them.

P A F. Trolling WvWvW with Mesmer portals. by PlatypusActionForcein Guildwars2

[–]Isodus 0 points1 point ago

The problem I see in the video (I didn't get to play during the BWE so I don't know how portals actually work) is there is no cooldown for when you can re-enter the portal causing people to be bounced back and forth very rapidly and preventing them from exiting the portal. If they add a 2 or 3 second "debuff" using a portal preventing you from warping through any mesmer portal during that time I think it would solve a lot of the greifing issues like were demonstrated in the video.

My boyfriend always does super sweet things for me. Guys of Reddit, what are some sweet things that girls can do for guys? by picadilly17in AskReddit

Why not play video games together? Assuming you both play video games of course.

Reddit, what are some of your completely irrational fears that actually came true? by old_number_sevenin AskReddit

[–]Isodus 0 points1 point ago

How did you have yours ripped off? I did it myself on accident as a kid, was using a weed puller (think a flat head screwdriver that ends in a prong type shape instead of flat line) and was feeling for the root of the weed... yanked and out came the weed and off went my fingernail.

Moscow's Metro is beautiful by tunnelsnakesrulein pics

I know Metro 2034 is out, but last I checked it is still only in Russian. Is this still true?

I'm guessing this is staged, but by any chance, is this a real scenario that has ever happened? by 14mit1010in japan

[–]Isodus 1 point2 points ago

Like other's have said it's not that bad anymore to where they'll push you on like that. I've seen them help a little, but not nearly push that much and it was only one a handful of occasions.

Every weekday when I get on the train during the morning or evening rush period I usually can't move at all if I'm standing. It really sucks if a bunch of people lose their balance, especially in the middle between the doors where there are more people who can't hold on to something.

What japanese should I teach my family? by AldogNinja44in japan

[–]Isodus 1 point2 points ago

This is pretty much it, I'm assuming you'll be with your family the entire time so they really wont need anything else other than the very very basics like randomjak said. If they are interested in actually learning the language before they come then sure go ahead and teach them what you can, but treat it more as they are learning the language as beginners and not a crash course to get by in Japan.

My family came to visit a few weeks ago and they knew hello, goodbye, and thank you and that was it. My Japanese is probably about on the same level as yours and we had no problems and they still enjoyed it a lot.

It is moments like this that make me fall in love over and over again with the inaka. by Hygienexin japan

ok, so aside from the Earth spewing its innards for everyone to see, it is very peaceful.

It is moments like this that make me fall in love over and over again with the inaka. by Hygienexin japan

I love inaka, unfortunately my university and eventually job will likely keep me tied to a larger city. I am willing to have a commute to remain as close to inaka as possible.

Great picture, looks so peaceful there.

Why don't these still exist?! Cycle-skates from 1923 by hifidelnortein videos

[–]Isodus 0 points1 point ago

Every time I see those I have to wonder if every mall, hotel lobby, and any other place open to the public with a sooth floor cringe at the sight of those shoes. I imagine they cause a lot of scuffing whatever floor you roll on.

It's a pain trying to find trashcans sometimes. There are really almost no public trash cans. A lot of convenience stores have them outside, and sometimes public places like parks have them but not always. Often times I end up walking around for an hour or more carrying my trash waiting for a convini that has trash cans.

ninja edit: Japan itself is very clean even with the rarity of trash cans, it's just sometimes annoying having to look for one when you have trash.

Invisibility in the dark doesn't seem bad, and you've clearly never been to Japan if you think trash detection is a bad thing.

edit: useless, not bad
