TROPHY CASE

How One Flawed Study Spawned a Decade of Lies by ChadR44in science

[–]Inri137[M] 26 points27 points ago

A number of people have reported this submission because it is not peer reviewed scientific research. I am exercising some discretion and leaving it up because it is a recent but unofficial retraction of a scientific publication. I invite the other moderators to review and remove if they deem it appropriate.

Because it has to be manually toggled for each comment and I haven't bothered to press the button each time after the first. I'll do that now.

We're an extremely high volume subreddit and we're hard at work trying to enforce our recently updated guidelines.

L. Rafael Reif selected as MIT’s 17th president - MIT News Office by ccb621in mit

[–]Inri137 1 point2 points ago

I'm one of a number of alumni who have decided to withhold all donations until the President and Dean of Student Life are both MIT alumni. I was disappointed with Reif's selection. At least he's an MIT professor instead of a complete outsider.

While interesting, this submission is not appropriate for /r/science because it does not pertain to peer-reviewed research, and therefore has been removed.

Your submission has been removed from /r/science because arXiv is not a peer-reviewed journal and the paper has neither been submitted nor accepted as a peer-reviewed research publication.

Sadly, I don't know if the couple in the pictures would want them on the internet, which is why I pmed the picture instead of including it in the OP.

Your submission was removed for two reasons: first, because it is not about a peer-reviewed scientific publication, and second because it is from 2009 whereas /r/science is for recent articles (~ the last six months).

Wind turbine produces 1000 liters of fresh drinking water a day out of air. by [deleted]in science

[–]Inri137[M] 239 points240 points ago

I'm hijacking the most popular comment to say that this link is not appropriate for /r/science. I want to remind everyone that /r/science is for peer-reviewed scientific research and not for discussing new products that have not been independently scientifically reviewed or tested. This belongs in /r/technology, /r/environment, or /r/energy, not /r/science.

Because the submission is so popular, I will not remove it at this time. However, we are in the process of moving to stricter enforcement of the /r/science submission guidelines.

I appreciate that this is the subject of a study but it the site itself is not scientific research. The article to which you linked, however, would fit our submission criteria.
