Need advice on potty training my 3.8 year old son. by darknaturein Parenting

[–]ImJustAnotherGirl 0 points1 point ago

Wow. I'm in a very similar boat. My son (turns 4 in August) will go when we tell him and has been out of diapers for 15 months. (He goes #2 on the potty no problem but NEVER pees unless I tell him to go) He will never say when he has to go and has been peeing his pants several times a day since the beginning of time! After trying EVERYTHING (rewards, sticker charts, candies, naked bottoms, begging, pleading, time outs, ignoring the behavior, praise) nothing works!!! I'm sick of hearing other people's suggestions that worked for their kid because I've tried it already! ("Oh, I just give Timmy a jelly bean and he was potty trained in 3 days..." And I want to punch you in your face!).

Finally yesterday we decided to just start putting pullups / diapers on him until he decides he's ready. This is after 15 months of NO DIAPER, he even stays dry at night ironically. I've been struggling with the decision for a while and finally when nothing else worked I finally gave in to the fact that there's no way to force him and HE has to decide to do it by himself. Just this morning he said, "Mom, I need to go peepee." So maybe there's hope because he never did this before!! I think it must just be a power thing.

So, my advice: put your son back in diapers / pullups - and tell him that now he gets to decide when to start using the potty. And only when he starts keeping the diaper dry all the time he can wear underwear and go to school. This is the talk I just had with my son and he seems happy about the solution and says that he will start going potty when "I'm a little bigger...". He's in preschool this year already and it ends this month (although he's not allowed to wear a pullup to school, I'm sending him in it anyway - if the school has a problem with it I guess, school's over!). I told him that he can't go to school next year if he still wears diapers because school is for big kids who don't pee in their pants. He seems to understand and says he'll start using the potty "When he's a little bigger".

I can assure you that nothing works until your child wants to do it. Good luck!!

First attempt at a fondant cake. For my wifes baby shower. The k is for kassidee. by Rand0mHav0kin CAKEWIN

Nice job for a first try. What kind of fondant did you use? It looks a little too soft / melty. Try out different fondants because they can be vastly different.

Okay, so I want to make a crazy awesome cake for my Girlfriend's B-Day, but I have no idea how to make something like this. Anyone got some pointers? =) by elbenjiin CAKEWIN

Yes, exactly this. I've been cake decorating for about 4 years, have made many wedding cakes, and done some pretty awesome stuff. I'd still be quite afraid to do this cake.

Currently trying to make money with cake. Yes, it is quite difficult. I've been doing this for about 3 years, and haven't really made a profit.. .yet. (Only been really marketing for a month or so).

No, the baby would have been in the trunk then.

Fuck all of these comments. Who forgets about their kid?! What, do you just go into the house and completely forget you're a parent? (Hmmm... it's awfully quiet around here)... You're retarded if you leave your kid in the car. I don't think they deserve legal action necessarily, but come ON.... who does that? I've never forgotten where my kid was for 30 seconds, much less long enough to bake him in the car. Okay, downvote me now.

should you wear spanx with tights? by where4artlaurain femalefashionadvice

[–]ImJustAnotherGirl 2 points3 points ago

You should be able to wear the tights under the spanx. I'm not really sure how you would consider wearing them over a slip ಠ_ಠ

Nobody will know you're wearing the spanx, so tights or no tights should be fine.

Really cute! Looks like they aren't cut straight though? Regardless, yes, you pull it off.

I agree. I think most people 'believe' because they were taught from a very young age. No intelligent adult would believe that BS if it were presented to them as an adult.

You can never 'win' an argument to matter what you use or say because their thinking / believing is irrational to begin with.

Did you make this? Where'd you get the awesome bride and groom topper?

No.... it wouldn't. Smooth buttercream and amazing looking ganache drizzled are not easy at all. Edited to say: I think that's fondant anyway.

Advice on buying an engagement ring. by yoshieuain personalfinance

[–]ImJustAnotherGirl 3 points4 points ago

You should tell her you want to pick the ring (after finding out what her taste is), and that you'll be spending MUCH less - after giving it much thought and consideration (tell her your reasons about wanting financial security more blah blah blah). If your relationship crumbles over THAT - than it wasn't that strong in the first place. Marriage will bring MUCH MUCH harder things than this.

Also - some relationship advice - be careful when people use guilt to sway you.

Best advice here. You should bring her ring shopping (you don't have to tell her you're planning anything, just take her to the mall and wander in a random jewelry store to get her thoughts). You'll get an idea of what she wants and probably realize you don't need to spend that much.

I agree. I wear a ring that cost about $1k. I'm happy that my husband chose our financial security over buying me a big ring. If you're girlfriend isn't happy with a ring that cost $1k or $2k, maybe you're marrying the wrong girl.
