How do I remove the sexual tension from a platonic relationship? by HyperSpazin relationships

[–]HyperSpaz[S] 0 points1 point ago

Ah, thank you. I wasn't clear about the term. That last remark should read "Meanwhile, I don't find her physically attractive".

Thank you for your effort! Your reply touches on a few important points.

Are you sure you don't have some real feelings for her outside of you're "unexplained arousal"?

Hell if I know, feelings are seldomly clear to me. What I know is that I'm not making any plans for courting her, but I'm hestitant to actively pursue other women, and want her around just like I want any woman around who strokes my ego - that might quantify my attraction. In the past, attraction built up by kindness and attention was usually diminished by neglect and enstrangement, so that I could move on. In that regard, I'm grateful for your suggestion, which might be a powerful method in order to not have me wait until she catches on I'm sort-of into her and cuts me off.

It is also possible that she has feelings for you, whether or not she realizes it. I wouldn't bet on it, but it's still a possibility--don't get your hopes too worked up or dashed for either possibility.

Well, first thing I had to do was convince myself that she didn't, which was easy initially since she mentioned her boyfriend very early, and harder later due to what seems to me like flirting. I was happy then since I was certain, because I've been hurt in the past by fanciful thinking. Now, it's like a tormenting cycle of build-up and let-down.

This sounds bad, but convince yourself of all the reasons she isn't relationship material, just friendship material.

Could you give an example for the distinction? I've come to learn some of her flaws and incompatibilities, but what I know applies to both platonic and romantic relationships. We haven't talked about intimate matters.

I can see how this would work. This looks like the most thorough solution, even though it would probably take one or two years (according to my friends' estimates). In my plans the order was reversed; I believed that getting to know more girls could give me the proper sensitivities to woo one.

So in your oppinion, your best choice would be to forego any friendship? Perhaps I didn't make myself clear, she does want to spend time with me. At least she told me

  • she was lonely (her boyfriend isn't here at the moment, she doesn't have any other friends here either) and would like to go out and do stuff, (which we've done)

  • I was very kind and, as she put it, a "beautiful person",

  • and several other compliments.

What's the biggest non-sexual benefit of having a girlfriend/boyfriend? by littlebalooneyin AskReddit

If you want to get the ladies, work on your literary skills. The way you write I can't imagine you're a very engaging partner for conversation, which is how relationships usually start (and sometimes end).

If this sounds cruel, mind I'm 21 as well and in a similar situation. I feel your pain.

Is it that once you get hooked, you need to get a steady supply of hugs?

Hugs, only recently found it how great they are. So exciting, and they kind of sneak up on you, don't they?

What are your favorite things to do with friends that are cheap, easy and instantly fun? by Noedelin AskReddit

Provided you own a smart phone. When I started, the cheapest thing was to buy a receiver. Of course, I'd tried it out before using aerial pictures (I was too cheap for topographical maps, too).

Got bored, made some interference patterns in my kitchen with a credit card and laser by ss32in Physics

[–]HyperSpaz 1 point2 points ago

I think the main issue is coherence. The reason interference works is because you can rely on all of the light to have a common phase when it arrives at the wall for each path it takes in the experiment. If it was jumbled up enough, the phase difference between the paths which would create the interference pattern would be essentially random.

There was a survey of so-called MACHOs, short for Massive Compact Hadronic Objects. That includes things like Jupiter-like gas giants, neutron stars, and black holes. The way you search for these things is by simply looking for events where the light of a star distorted minutely by the object's gravity (usually the star appears brighter) while the MACHO is passing by.

The result of the survey was that they exist (even though we don't know their exact composition), but that they can't make up all of the missing mass.

So in good conclusion, good one; there was actually money spent on answering your question. I hope this was helpful.

Edit: Mr_comrade reminded me that black holes are usually X-Ray or Gamma-Ray sources (due to all the matter falling into them), so I'm not sure anymore whether black holes could have been included in that survey.

It's not a good picture, but I wouldn't mind the hair, or even consider it messy.

A Gift in the Name of Peace! by ArtSchoulerin banana

This is an affront to all that our fore-bananas fought for! My grandfather was peeled alive by the picke aggressors, and now this young generation is trying to appease them. Will they never learn that a pickle does not know the sweetness of peace, only salty, sour hate seasoned with dill?!
