Who do you think are the most overrated and underrated teams for the 2012-2013 season? by PhatZoundsin CFB

[–]Hougie 0 points1 point ago

Overrated: Washington. All bias aside the Alamo Bowl seemed to impress everyone else much more than myself. Everyone freaked seeing RGIII and Keith Price tear it up and have so many scores...I saw it as the most pathetic showing of defense I have ever watched (by both teams). Also their o-line and defense are still very questionable this season.

Underrated: UCLA. Nobody is expecting them to make a splash but I have a feeling that Mora combined with the already vast talent pool they have built over the years is finally gonna do something.

Black uniforms are for schools whose colors aren't as cool as Crimson and Gray.

Had him on my fantasy team last year and was not disappointed.

Honestly even being from Washington I hate the Seahawks (adopted my dads team looooooong before I lived in this state) so I am with you.

Is it lame of me to think that second point is actually really cool? Haha.

Also I have to say that Marcus Trufant comes as a close second. Kinda hard to ignore the homestate hero when he transitioned from the Cougars to the Seahawks.

Only 100 more days! What are your 5 bold predictions for the season? by DetroitGingerin CFB

[–]Hougie 0 points1 point ago

I feel like a lot of people aren't being bold enough. So here's what this delusional Wazzu fan thinks:

  1. Biggest upset of the year? Wazzu takes down Oregon.

  2. Boise State regresses more than anyone has predicted, but their easy schedule continues to inflate egos. They end up playing a 6-6 Pac-12 team in a bowl again and lose.

  3. Despite early hype as a Heisman candidate Keith Price will not play more than 6 games this season.

  4. Georgia takes the SEC.

  5. USC loses 4 games and doesn't make the P12 championship. Losses coming from: Cal, Utah, Oregon and Notre Dame.

What's your favorite thing about your arch-rival's school. by DawgClawin CFB

Obviously nobody can just make it to Pullman whenever they want but Ferdinand's sells all of the cheeses in smaller amounts. I agree the huge cans are sometimes way overkill.

Full steam ahead to Big East for Boise State Broncos, San Diego State Aztecs - ESPN by Ziggaliggadingdongin CFB

They sure aren't kidding when they say it's the "Big" East considering it now stretches to the west coast.

What schools that deserve to be in one of the Big-6 conferences but are often overlooked ? by karatechop250in CFB

[–]Hougie 0 points1 point ago

This is why I am excited for our season opener against them. I'm not getting anywhere near Provo but I know some Cougs who are making the trip. Needless to say I don't think that town, those students or the alumni are ready for what Wazzu Cougars are about to bring to the table. Hopefully nobody gets arrested.

Idea for CFB conferences: Relegation by Jaktrojin CFB

[–]Hougie 0 points1 point ago

They are already discussing playoffs in the current system. And in terms of recruits it works the same. There will never be incentive for top recruits to go to average or below average schools. Relegation doesn't change that one bit.

Recruiting would become a mess and the stability of college football would disintegrate. No coach would want to stay on board a sinking ship. One relegation season could lead a top tier coach to look for another job. The constant coaching changes would lead to complete destruction of teams.

What schools that deserve to be in one of the Big-6 conferences but are often overlooked ? by karatechop250in CFB

[–]Hougie 2 points3 points ago

True. Also I live in the northwest so my perspective is skewed because people in the Washington/Oregon/Idaho area all know about Boise State and their success.

Any school in the Pac is good. And keep in mind this is just one public ratings website/publication in which OSU is about 3 spots lower and they do not make the standards by which they judge the university known.

I've only ever visited Corvallis a couple times but it's a really great area. And when it really comes down to it an overall "ranking" of a college doesn't mean shit compared to the prestige and ranking of your specific major. Wazzu is ranked at #115 on the US News list. But it's schools of Agriculture, Veterinary and Communications are all top 10 programs nationwide. I know OSU has prestigious programs as well.

[–]Hougie 1 point2 points ago

That's still the stereotype and what the majority of people believe. AFAIK US News is one of the major sources for ranking colleges as well. I think the difference may lie in the graduate programs. ASU is a much bigger school than Oregon State so I would imagine their graduate programs are larger and better funded.

For undergrad there's no way ASU is better than OSU though.

Idea for CFB conferences: Relegation by Jaktrojin CFB

[–]Hougie 3 points4 points ago

This was discussed to death the other day when an article popped up outlining the outcomes over 7 years.

I think the strongest argument against it was when someone brought up how the relegation system truly works in sports it's used in. For example it works in soccer because any team can go out and buy better players. In college football the recruiting scene is much different and the relegation system would make it very unfair.

I think the Pac in the past has publicly made it clear they don't want affiliation with religion based schools.

Not nearly on par with the likes of Cal, Stanford, UCLA...or UW, USC, Colorado, Arizona and Utah. Even the bottom four academic schools in the Pac (Wazzu, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona State) offer MANY more graduate programs and are much more highly rated than Boise State.

That being said a degree from Boise State isn't useless. Their football success has lead to a valuable brand recognized by many employers.

EDIT: Much to my surprise according to US News college rankings i've overestimated Utah and 'Zona. Bottom four academically in the Pac in order of best to worst: University of Arizona, University of Utah, Arizona State University, Oregon State University.

I've seen a lot of both but didn't view it that way. I still think the British version is better but only because I find their group to be more funny/have been exposed to their humor for a much longer period of time.

The Player on Your Squad That You are Most Excited to Watch in 2012? by boSSSauc3in CFB

[–]Hougie 3 points4 points ago

TE Lintz. He didn't get many looks last year but Leach is very publicly in love with him. I expect good things. He's now playing inside receiver.

Obviously Marquess Wilson too. Would not be surprised if he is the top WR in the country this coming season.

Does WSU allow hookah? by Barrazack12in wsu

[–]Hougie 0 points1 point ago

There is a new hookah lounge that opened up downtown next to black cyprus on main street. I haven't been there but it'd open from 8-2 on weekdays and until 3am on weekends, i've heard good thing but haven't tried it out!
