I am a fan of racing coasters that are only one track. by johnstepin rct

If all the layout is is the same ride L/R mirrored, it's a lame, lazy ride, regardless of whether or not they technically race.

House Republicans vs. Gay Troops: Don't Ask, Don't Tell is over, but thanks to congressional Republicans, the fight about gays in the military is just beginning. by davidreiss666in politics

I absolutely agree. Occasionally when I comment on the internet, raw emotion leaks out before the logic filter is applied. For the last few years I have been perpetually frustrated with the actions and words of people in positions of power within our government, and it seems to me that a culture of apathy is allowing these people to promote bigotry and hate because they have done nothing more than advance to a position of power. It's immensely frustrating, and it is apparent that my "vote" is insufficient to actually do anything about it. I feel like in order to enact any sort of meaningful change, I can only keep voting for people who support what I believe in, and hope that those that don't can self-destruct without bringing the country down around them.

Bookmarked for future reference. Now that you mention it, I did see identically equipped MS3s listed for up to 2k more than I paid. All that meant to me though was that they weren't considerations. I'd rather drive 4 hours to not have to put up with dealer bullshit than buy out of my backyard and haggle for days.

Idiots. And now they're suing PNC Park security? Because they got belligerent and assaulted a security guard?

These people are embarrassments to Pittsburgh and the human race in general.

Any politician who believes that this is an issue worthy of congressional debate should be stripped of their position and denied the right to ever run for public office again.

So what do people outside of the Tri State area have to say about the NJD and NYR series. by noPENGSinALASKAin hockey

Pittsburgh fan here, and I've been rooting for the western conference since the Pens lost (Kings specifically). As far as the Rangers/Devils go, I'm pretty indifferent. Neither team plays a particularly exciting brand of hockey as far as I'm concerned, and in watching the games I find myself slightly rooting for the Devils... though I think that's mostly because I find Tortorella to be something of a twat, and that is apparently enough to sway my allegiance.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter to me who wins this series. Whoever does, I'll be rooting against them in the finals.

...thanks? I appreciate you taking the time to respond, but this post is 4 months old. That's ages in reddit time, and most of these issues were addressed long ago in changelogs for BR. Since you took the time to respond though, I fired up BR again (I've been using Reddit News for the last few months). Well, BR is indeed much, much better and more feature complete now than it was 4 months ago, so kudos to the devs at onelouder for continuing to de-bug and polish it.

That said, it seems to be about on-par with RN from a feature completeness and usability point of view. That's great and all, but I will be sticking with RN for the foreseeable future. I simply prefer the ICS-flavored look and feel of the app, and since all else seems equal, that becomes the deciding factor.

Thanks for taking the time to respond though, and I hope BR continues to enjoy success.

In my experience, Mazda is not, say, Acura, where you can expect to knock thousands of dollars off the sticker. I got my '11 Speed3 for $22,970 out the door (22,175 base + 795 freight since Speed3s are made/assembled entirely in Japan, not including taxes + registration fees) and that was the among the best prices I heard of anyone taking one for for 3 states around me.

I never even had to lowball them. I just saw a price online, got them to verify that there would be no additional fees and commit to the pricing and lack of supplemental fees in an email, and payed exactly that.

I had this nagging feeling like I fucked up extraordinarily by not doing the low-ball/get-denied/low-ball-again/walk-away/wait-for-a-phone-call game, but all evidence I've found just indicates that I paid an extremely fair price for a brand new car that many people end up paying more for.

Dunno if that helps much I guess, just thought I'd share.

Yes. And it is annoying as fuck, because it seems to be somewhat random, and they will inevitably end up getting stuck in a 1x1 square area of some queue line somewhere that happens to overlap their "area", at which point they're trapped forever.

No prob. I live in western PA, so the roads here are flipping terrible. Talk of making the ride harsher makes me cringe slightly. It's bearable, but I wouldn't want it stiffer than it is.

Don't worry about the low profiles either. You'll get better at avoiding pot-holes, and as tires they're more good than bad. I have 16" winter wheels + tires (same OD for the tires, but with more sidewall). I hate them. They serve their purpose wonderfully and prevent me from sliding off the roads when it's snowy (and I love them for that), but when the roads aren't bad, the suspension is so sharp that you can feel the car shift and settle as the sidewalls flex when you're leaning hard into the turns. It's awful - neuters the whole car. My happiest car day all year was when I got to put the low-profile summers back on.

My 2010 mazdaspeed 3 by bigblock582in mazda

[–]HerpDerpinAtWork 0 points1 point ago

Eh. Have you driven the car yet? It's already sharp as a tack in the turns (and hard as a rock on the bumps). It is an order of magnitude better/sportier/more-performance-oriented than the already good non-Mazdaspeed 3. After owning mine for a year and driving the hell out of it on country/forest back roads around me, I can't think of a suspension modification that I would do. There are plenty of available aftermarket parts, but I can't comment on what is/is not worth it, because I am pretty totally satisfied with the suspension/handling of the car as-is.

Plus, honestly, the RMM is a handling mod. It makes that big of a difference. Torque steer becomes more predictable (and thus more manageable), and the car just feels so much more planted when your right foot's doing anything.

I can't really recommend anything otherwise though because I haven't done any real research into it. The car just doesn't feel like it needs it to me... anything "better" would just result in an even harsher ride than it already has, and I've yet to hit a turn where the car felt like it was suffering due to suspension.

As a Devils fan, this basically sums up what the game really looked like whenever we tried to get a shot on goal last night. by MFLBsublimein hockey

[–]HerpDerpinAtWork 5 points6 points ago

Without paying the price? Then it's still the Devils fault. First for not making them pay the price, and second for not figuring out a way to beat it in the first place. As an aside, I find it humorously hypocritical that a team long-famous for playing a trap is bitching about a tactic that results in "boring hockey".

My 2010 mazdaspeed 3 by bigblock582in mazda

[–]HerpDerpinAtWork 0 points1 point ago

If all you're concerned about is increased durability / reliability and are more concerned with handling and feel rather than raw power, all I'd upgrade would be the RMM and the horn.

I'm amazed at how much the RMM improves the driving feel for relatively minimal effort and investment. With the stock RMM, you can feel the engine moving in the bay under aggressive driving, and missed shifts and wheel hop will be constant annoyances under WOT conditions in 1-3 gears. I mean, look at the difference (stock on the left, SURE Torq R3 on the right).

The horn I covered pretty thoroughly here.

IMO, those are the two parts of the car that are objectively "inadequate" stock, and I would recommend them to anyone who owns the car. You can make both of these mods for a grand total of about $140 total (not $140 each, $140 total). For your purposes/goals, these are worth the money.

Based on the research I've done, the intake and fuel pump are only "inadequate" if you're concerned with getting more power than stock. I don't think you'd see reliability gains out of an upgraded fuel pump and intake, so if you don't need more power, skip the intake/fuel pump/AP mods and save yourself $1200.

Need Your Opinions on Marketers at PSU by silvermacein PennStateUniversity

[–]HerpDerpinAtWork 0 points1 point ago

In 4.5 years of Penn State, the only campus marketing group that I ever had any sort of appreciation for were the Red Bull girls.

Before I was even a freshman, I was visiting Penn State and went out drinking with some friends who already went there. The next morning, I was wandering around campus, mostly lost and incredibly hungover, operating on maybe 3 hours of sleep, trying to make my way to Hammond (or Reber?) for an engineering orientation. A Red Bull Mini Cooper rolled up the drive in front of Atherton Hall, stopped in front of me, and a girl asked if I wanted any. Exhausted and hungover, I accepted, and she handed me two cans. She was an angel.

For serious though, they're never pushy, they always ask if you want their free shit before they shove it in your face, and they don't care if you say no. Ignoring that they're giving out free stuff that a lot of people want anyway, the attitude is what makes them the best. Also, the free Red Bull.

When your park is at a point where it's turning a healthy profit, use patrol areas to give old rides their own mechanic, and set the inspection interval to as frequently as possible. Heck, if you can afford it, give every major ride (/coaster) its own mechanic.

It may be overkill, but your downtime will be all but non-existent.

George Lucas is turning his 300,000 sq ft estate into low income housing...to piss of his rich neighbors. by Bambillain news

[–]HerpDerpinAtWork 1 point2 points ago

The second [/#5] one (usually thought to be the best one) was written entirely by Lawrence Kasdan and directed by Irvin Kershner.

Agree entirely. So does... like everyone. Wait, what does Lucas have to say on the matter?

"Sid [Ganis, the publicist for SW5] is the reason why The Empire Strikes Back is always written about as the best of the films, when it actually was the worst one."
~ George Lucas

He genuinely believes that Empire is the worst of all 6 Star Wars movies (he made that comment this year).

I don't even need to analyze it. It speaks for itself.

I see your drum set jump, guitron, and taco rocking and raise you all in with a Flying V solo in front of 30,000 people! by TheJoeStormin Guitar

[–]HerpDerpinAtWork 0 points1 point ago

People don't understand how unnecessary it is to have your amp be loud, period. As far as I'm concerned, the rule is very simply this: If you can clear the drums when you practice, it's loud enough.

30-60W will fill up any room you play, and if it won't, it means you're playing a room big enough that you're mic'd up to the PA anyway. If you're even bigger than that, you still don't need more volume. In fact, you are even more free to use whatever amp you damn well please (even something like that little 1W), because by the time you're that big, the amps that provide your actual sound will likely live offstage in isolation cabinets. At that point, what's on-stage may as well be decorative (and often is: exhibit A, exhibit B).

Verbolten - On-ride 720p Footage - Bush Gardens Williamsburg by kinorobin rollercoasters

[–]HerpDerpinAtWork 1 point2 points ago

Agreed. IMO it should have been another 20' taller or so... with sitdown trains it just looks sorta weak as a "finale".

Still looks like a great ride though. Definitely the better of the two "Busch Gardens multi-launch coasters" (/better compared to Cheetah Hunt at BGT).

Verbolten - On-ride 720p Footage - Bush Gardens Williamsburg by kinorobin rollercoasters

[–]HerpDerpinAtWork 4 points5 points ago

The whole interior section in particular looks to be pretty excellent, plus it has a drop-track section (train stops in place, whole track freefalls briefly).

The end looks a little "meh" to me though. IMO the "Big Bad Wolf homage drop" down to the river could/should have been taller. On a sitdown coaster it just looks a little tame as-is.
