This isn't much different from companies that pay workers to stand on the side of the highway dressed up as mascots. I agree it is undermining to them, but then most of us have to take jobs that undermine our existence in some way. Yea it is fucked up that they're being exploited, but so are we all. If the homeless participants gain compensation (which the article fails to explain) then it is nowhere near as obscene as the author makes it out to be. They had a choice to participate the same way we have a choice to work at McDonald's for ex. or be homeless ourselves. There is also no reason to lash out against all the everyday people attending sxsw.

the fact that we already have a very strong car infrastructure makes high speed rail unnecessary.

The usefulness of "car infrastructure" is dependent upon cheap oil. When that is no longer available it will be quite necessary to have an alternate infrastructure in place. The obvious question is how would/could it be powered if not by coal or natural gas?

Yea it is not about police officers as individual persons. Of course each police officer is a human being, but as a member of a police department their job is to protect the interests of the ruling elite and they systematically oppress and REpress the every day working man, woman, child. The world would be a beautiful place without police, without military.
