Bitch please, I don't need outdoors by Bernie6127in fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

I know this all too well. Cycling up some steep incline, out of breath, knowing that to stop would mean being eaten by flies. Looking back and seeing this beachball sized swarm chasing me gave me that extra motivation to go keep on going... I brought insect repellent the next time.

Guardian's 6 Nations Predictions by CaisLaochachin rugbyunion

[–]HelloBox 5 points6 points ago

I'd say: France Ireland Wales England Scotland Italy.

France have a good advantage having both England and Ireland at home.

Not much in it between Ireland and Wales I feel, but Welsh injuries will cause problems.

Scotland could beat England in Murrayfield (Let's hope it's not another awful match ending in a draw!)

Anyone in the Dublin area have a used bike they would like to sell to a traveler? or know anywhere to buy cheap bicycles? Help! by toIrelandIGOin ireland

[–]HelloBox 22 points23 points ago

Haha, "traveller" might not be the best word to use: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Travellers

If you're staying around Dublin have a look at http://www.dublinbikes.ie/ .They're really handy and really cheap.

If you need to go further than just the city centre then you could pick up a cheap bike in Halfords: http://www.halfords.ie/

The Escapist : The Impossible DRM by mirvnillithin Games

[–]HelloBox 0 points1 point ago

He says that "There is no way for me (the publisher) to let you (the gamer) run a program but somehow not duplicate the thing."

This is wrong, the way DRM will move in the future is to have parts of the game computed on publisher servers (AI most likely). Think of it being somewhat like Onlive but with the graphics/physics processing done on your end.

Now, because you have no direct access to the AI on your computer, you can't just crack it, neither can you just duplicate it like you would authorisation style DRM where codes are sent to a server and specific keys are sent back. That style is easy to copy as for each key there is a definite answer that will never change, AI on the other hand always changes based on player input and no player will ever input commands in exactly the same way.

New Alan Wake will have a campaign length of 4-5 hours. by plutonickin gamernews

[–]HelloBox 5 points6 points ago

I really enjoyed Alan Wake. Didnt actually know much about it and picked it up for about €10 on sale a year after it came out.

I'm not sure what price they're expecting us to pay for just 5 hours though. I hope it's something reasonable.

r/Games, let's talk piracy. by youngminiiin Games

[–]HelloBox 0 points1 point ago

Hah! If only, maybe they'd pay me for reddit comments!

Honestly though, i'm just basing what I believe on my experience with other people. Looking at my friends, most pirate games. Out of maybe 11 PC gamers, only 2 of us reguarly pay for games instead of pirating. On an even broader scale, i would say 90% of my friends download music instead of paying. I think it's somewhat naive to dismiss peoples desire for luxuries, especially if they can get it for free.

[–]HelloBox 0 points1 point ago

In a "perfect" world that's how things would work, people gotta eat, but people want luxuries too. While most sane people do indeed buy food and pay rent and other necessities, when offered the luxuries they want (in this case games but also music and TV/Film) it's fair to say most will choose to get them for free if they can. If, for some reason, they could not pirate they would have to make choices about which luxury they want and how they'll afford it. Even if they buy one game instead of none, that's still money for the developers. Console games are a good example of people having to pick and choose due to them being so much harder to pirate.

Ah yeah but keys would be easier to emulate, that's basically a keygen. Having it emulate full AI processing would be impossible without the code.

As for the keys sites, the one i use (g2play.net) is based in singapore and games are much cheaper to get there. They just take a picture of the key and email it to you. Give them a shot, i've bought from them twice now (Deus Ex and Skyrim) and both times they sent the key to me the day before release so i could preload it.

They are legit, here's a pic another keys site, CJS keys, put up before battlefield 3 came out: http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/312910_10150356100259250_239659089249_8045064_1245091309_n.jpg

I hate discussions about piracy because it decends into the circle jerk you described.

The biggest flaw in the argument that most pro pirate gamers use is that they take games to almost be a right. "I pirated X because I coudln't afford it, so it wouldnt have been a lost sale anyway". If you can't afford to pay for something, that does not make it acceptable to just take it. If piracy did not exist, people who cannot immediately afford every game they want would have to save up for certain ones, increasing sales.

Of course there are others who just don't give a shit and pirate because it's free. Of all my gamer friends I think i'm the only one who'd buy PC games reguarly, the rest just get them on torrent. Recently I've taken to buying keys (legally) from cdkey sites and then registering them on Steam. This easily knocks 33% off the price and doesn't force me to have to save up (or try justify piracy in some way) e.g. I got Skyrim for €31 instead of €50.

I think in the not too distant future there'll be some kind of DRM that processes part of the game (perhaps AI) on the publishers server making piracy extremely difficult. (I wont like the hassle of it, but I cant blame developers from trying to protect their investment)

It might not be popular to say but games are not a privilege. If you can't afford all of them you can save for one of them. By pirating everything you can't say there's no sales lost because I'm sure if piracy didn't exist you would have saved for at least one (Or bought it when it's cheap).

That's pretty much how it works on consoles for the majority of people.

(By the way I try to buy most of my games but I do pirate some. I do im believe affecting sales, there are deffinitely some games I would have bought eventually had I not pirated them. Most recently being Dead Island)
