I merely found the truth by being bluntly honest in my question / introduction.

So it sounds like you get a kick out of being tactless.

I tend to try to get the girl to hang with the guy.

And from what you know on seddit do you really think that your "help" is actually effective or is it more for your own amusement?

Human nature is pretty amusing.

Cheers.

You really can't tell the difference between what you described above and asking a blonde girl to do a black girl impression?

Here's a hint:

then the guy looks sad as shit

There is a difference between being random and laughing with people and making everyone happy versus creating awkwardness and laughing at someone with your friend.

Maybe you should figure out ways to have a good time that don't depend on needlessly hurting other people. Just a thought.

Too many guy friends? Really? That shouldn't be a problem.

It doesn't translate to the other in some cases (maybe if you know them all through a really male centric activity) but one does not preclude the other either (unless you are spending all of your social time only interacting with them in a male centric activity).

Mark Zuckerberg sells 30.2 million shares of $FB common stock at $37.58 by nico87in investing

[–]HellaSober -1 points0 points ago

The point is that there was a market before the IPO so this didn't happen in "one day" where their net-worth shot up. And Peter was the first real investor, not a cofounder.

[–]HellaSober 3 points4 points ago

There is also his opportunity cost of the projects he could be spending that money on instead of keeping it there. And as I said before, Thiel reducing his stake in Facebook is not a new event, it's why he didn't own anywhere close to his original stake coming into the IPO.

What should have worried investors was the complaints Peter made to the press after LNKD's IPO - he said bankers really screwed up. So people expecting a pop in its price might have wanted to pay more attention to how insiders were thinking about the IPO process. Also, when he decided to actually sell more than expected just before the IPO that would have been another sign that it might have been overvalued at that price.

So it's definitely worth thinking about things like this, you just need ot use the right context.

He sold Facebook all the way up, so this isn't anything new.

And for the record - What he did with Paypal wasn't cash out at the peak (That's Mark Cuban and broadcast.com), but he did raise a ton of money for Paypal just near the peak to help give them a runway to create a viable business which was eventually bought by Ebay well after the crash.

[–]HellaSober -6 points-5 points ago

The proper calculation is more the difference between that and the previous liquid market price - which might have been around 30ish. That's over 100 million for one and over 200 million for the other.

AMA Request - Professional fund manager or someone who invests their own money instead of getting a formal job. by DVDV28in investing

[–]HellaSober 0 points1 point ago

So are you looking for people who have some capital that they trade on their own to support themselves but not so much that they can support themselves with income from the cashflow without resorting to active management?

AMA Request - Professional fund manager or someone who invests their own money instead of getting a formal job. by DVDV28in investing

[–]HellaSober 1 point2 points ago

Since when was managing other people's assets not a formal job? Taking into account compliance, operations, raising money as well as managing a portfolio it ends up being very much like a job. The difference is the fund manager's bosses (assuming they are at the top of their organization) are their investors instead of one specific person.

  1. I'm just a PM, but something quantitative and from a top school helps a lot. Signaling (and connections) matter a ton, especially before you have a good (audited) track record.

Good luck. I'd be curious to see how "escaping" and "Enforcing IP rights via the state" are correlated. I can see that for copyright which might just be an automatic contracts for those who buy the material, but much less so for patents.

Most of the people I know who think about these things like the idea of escape via making "F** you" money and then negotiating with individual countries as mentioned in The Sovereign Individual. One person I know is very interested in New Zealand for some reason.

Three climbers die on Mount Everest by Maxionin climbing

[–]HellaSober 2 points3 points ago

I understand the logistics aspect of the climb are very complicated and difficult, but are there also technically difficult climbs in the main route that people take? Are there many 5.X parts to the climb (and how hard do they get - wouldn't it be almost ice climbing or something?) or is it mostly all really steep hiking?

What did you play this weekend? by timotabin boardgames

[–]HellaSober 1 point2 points ago

Stone Age - or as I think of it, Agricola-lite. It was the second time I've played it and the first time I've played it with 4 players. I thought it would be good because one person in the group was new and was afraid we'd be playing "games with wizards." Everyone undervalued the cards and didn't think much about matching their building strategy with the cards/roles they've been getting.

I'm looking forward to trying this game out again with a more strategic group of gamers.

The implication of the comment above yours was that this IPO meant that the IPO's success would lead to more attempts at instagrams, etc. You replied with a comment about the free market. I misinterpreted your statement to say that this was the free market working and that the result was a good one and my response was geared towards the theme "The free market can be wrong without disproving the need for a free market."

It doesn't sound like you meant that so I was mistaken. I spent too much time on r/libertarian in the past where those types of assumptions were quite common.

While the free market does lead to large companies for a reason, large companies often have issues similar to government run economies because they don't often have market mechanisms to immediately correct for misallocated capital.

The difference is that companies where this problem becomes too acute eventually disappear in a way that governments don't. We can't be sure about what will happen to Facebook, but if I had to bet on a ridiculously expensive (relative to its revenue) megacap company staying relevant ten to twenty years later I would think that Amazon has a much better chance.

Thanks for that non sequitur. Now explain how fiscal stimulus impacts AD when the central bank is targeting inflation without assuming central bank incompetence.

A word of caution by outkillingpepperoniiin seduction

[–]HellaSober 0 points1 point ago

Isn't this one of the reasons that seddit/etc. is needed? You can't just ask girls what they want (and pop culture had been too helpful for guys in figuring out what they want either). It wouldn't be too surprising if that was also the case for many of its members.

A word of caution by outkillingpepperoniiin seduction

[–]HellaSober 0 points1 point ago

If x% of all guys wrote field reports, we'd still hear more about crazy parties because the guys who get into relationships would stop writing them and the guys who don't want relationships would keep writing about their good times.

And then there is the other question. "If you were honest with the girl and told her you wrote a FR about your interaction with her, how would she react?" There are certainly some girls who would think that's cool, but many would not want that part of their private life shared online and guys who are looking for a relationship might be more hesitant to share intimate details with someone they are going to be emotionally close to.

So combine these two points and the majority of FRs that get written are generally about girls that guys don't see themselves with long term for one reason or another.

Work Is Work: Why Free Internships Are Immoral by ElBehin TrueReddit

[–]HellaSober 14 points15 points ago

People are irrational. In this case it is probably something like status quo bias. They only get hit with reality when they go back into the market. And they probably have budgets for raises that need to be distributed.

When a key position is really needed the new hire might come from money being added to the budget.

With big companies it generally isn't "employer" as a singular person, but as a set of people working under specific institutional incentives that generates decisions.

Well if you had your power center next to someone who would potentially only be there you would want to finish him off too rather than deal with a constant 3 army build up only focused in that area.
