What's the difference between 3D Max and Maya? by manna3i94in computergraphics

[–]Glueyfeathers 7 points8 points ago

Thats a great breakdown. I would add the softwares themselves are very similar; you can do pretty much the same things in both. Max has a tradition of being strong in the arch viz sector due to excellent architectural modelling tools and quality ray tracers like v-ray.

Maya has maintained a strong foothold in the film sector due to excellent compatability with renderman renderers (prman mainly) and a mature Linux build which fits into the large scale pipelines involved in making films. So it's not so much the software itself that should influence your decision, but the pipeline around it, the renderer you rely on and the images/caches you want to get out of it/pass on to other people up and down a pipeline (if at all).

What "amazing fact" or colloquialism do you know is actually wrong, and you're sick of correcting people about it? by TestZeroin AskReddit

Even continents are hard to make out. South America and Africa look very similar from such a vast distance.

IWTL How to wear Contact Lenses by Spartancfosin IWantToLearn

Your optician (who of course tested your eyes for suitability and supplied you with you first pair) will be happy to talk you through the process thoroughly. With respect you shouldn't be asking for advice on this sort of thing on a random Internet forum. These are your eyes we're talking about - get your lenses fitted properly by a professional. I'm all for buying lenses online if you know what you're buying, but for god sake, get the first pair supplied and fitted by an optician.

If you really struggle, you can wear continuous wear lenses that you leave in for up to 30 days without taking them out, I've worn these for a few years now and they're great, I usually only leave them in for around 7 days and then take a couple days off before starting again.

Game with best graphics? by bud369in PS3

[–]Glueyfeathers -3 points-2 points ago

I wouldn't say resistance 3 has that good graphics, the environment models are awesome, but the humans and monsters are kind of blocky and low(ish) res. The best I've played in terms of graphics (as much as i hate to admit it) is probably CoD:MW3

started creating my list of PS3 games to buy leading into 2013. What do you think? by a_stray_bulletin PS3

I'd relegate FIFA 13 to the 'don't bother' pile. Is it really worth dropping £50 on a game likely to offer nothing you haven't seen before?

Very much a shop rather than a place to sit and drink coffee: Algerian Coffee Stores on Old Compton St is amazing. It's a small shop, but the smell as you walk in is intoxicating. It sells beans from every corner of the world, as well as related products like chocolate and equipment. They do also have a machine that will make you a quick coffee for £1 that tastes 10 times better than anything you get at Starbucks. Try it!

Also if you like tea, the covent garden tea shop in covent garden is the same deal - an amazing selection of teas.

UK version of r/Frugal? by Kazcubein Frugal

I think it's a great idea. Also I'm sure uk frugalers know already but moneysavingexpert.com (and their wonderful forums) are a gold mine of uk specific frugal info.

DAE find video game shops massively biased towards xbox? any reason for this? by Glueyfeathersin PS3

[–]Glueyfeathers[S] 2 points3 points ago

I would have thought it would be 50:50? The consoles are so evenly balanced. I guess it just comes down to what your friends have (online, sharing games etc) and Xbox has been out longer so had that momentum going for it.

I disagree. Ive cycled on it every day at around 9am and 7pm and its perfectly clear all the way to soho at that time.

I cycle past that shop every day :) - the superhighways are awesome and I've never seen anything other than a bus clogging them up to be fair. This photo shows the exception rather than the rule.

Ian Hislop is the Editor of Private Eye, so it shares a lot of the same humour but the content is different.
