I'm so glad someone said this... I was worried no one else loved Summer Heights High as much as me.

That wasn't really the context I meant... We didn't do vaccinations but lead poisoning treatment. Sometimes people refused treatment and their response was Inshallah. However, they also used it in the way you say. Heck I was saying inshallah after my first month... like, "Do you think it will be sunny tomorrow?" "Inshallah"... But we also had parents with children who died and they would also used Inshallah as an explanation of why he or she died.

Kids having seizures (some dying) and their moms freaking out. I don't really want to go into much detail... Have you ever heard the song Flume by Bon Iver. I know this sounds cheesy but that song takes me back to those moments every time. Listen to it and picture yourself completely helpless.

I did something similar in college and we had to raise money via bake sales, a silent auction, and a concert. It wasn't fun, but we raised something like $40,000. We got many supplies donated from our student health clinic.

I might also suggest you contact some people at Emory Med school they have an ongoing student group working in Haiti (http://www.emorymedishare.org/)... I'm not sure if that helps. Sorry!

The biggest perk I ever heard was if you go to the airport with your MSF t-shirt on they will sometimes give you a free upgrade to first class. It didn't work for me... pity because I've always wondered what first class is like. I doubt I will ever get to actually try it.

It depends on where you are. We had satellite phones to check into home base every hour and a strict curfew. We always had to tell everyone where we were going and when we would be back.

So this will be buried but whoooa there buddy... I wanted to respond about the importance of not creating a culture of dependency, but was it really necessary to use the phrase "stupid retarded fucking ni**ers"? I mean, really? .... Really, really? I mean... whoa. Wow. That is... wow.

The people I served in some of the villages were the kind and beautiful. They are very intelligent about things I will never understand. Sure we have a different educational background... but... those words!?

Here are some pictures of the AMAZING people I got to work with on a day to day basis... http://imgur.com/r0EgG,BBjpH,jcIfO,KF6Ow#0... which one of them would you like to say lives or dies? Which one of them is retarded? They all look strong and capable to me. Also, they are all farmers and grow their own food... they take very good care of their land and yet we screwed them over with our rapid industrialization. Siiiiighh..... ohhhh my... This comment is so upsetting.

I would just contact the country offices. E-mail everyone you think could help and then those can't... the squeaky wheel gets the oil... or in this case possible attention regarding engineering equipment.

I don't see what's wrong with MSF, but there are lots of great groups out there. I mentioned that I'm also partial to Blacksmith Institue earlier and someone else mentioned Partners In Health. PIH does ammmmmmmazing things. There is a website caller CharityWatch.org ( I think that's it)... It rates organizations by a 4 star system. That is the #1 place to start before donating money to ANY group.

They are everywhere. I have a longer answer to this but I'm on my mobile so it's a pain in the ass. Essentially in my previous work I avoided Africa. I had no desire to go. Then, once there, I can't picture a more amazing place. It's back to Africa for me... ASAP.

Also I wasn't asking ehat's wrong with Sharia. I've lived under Sharia twice and have opinions of my experience. I specifically asked what YOU thought was wrong.

Nothing would have happened as long as the woman didn't press charges. I'm not saying sharia is perfect.... It can be terrible and it can be misused. It has a lot of problems. I'm just saying you have these blanket objections to something you've never experienced.

They are good but sometimes they fund some weeeeird stuff. PIH is awesome though. I wish I could be Paul Farmer.

I don't know about doctoral theses with MSF, but you may want to look at the UN. They have some collaborative programs.

We had one couple in our team. The wife was a nurse and the husband was logistics. I was jealous that they had someone to share the experience with; however, they had also be deployed separately at one point... which I believe would be very hard.

I don't know any collaborations off hand. The engineers we worked with came from group in the US. They were AMAZING!
