I wish I could. :( Would love to see people like MisfitChris and Oxygenstar play live (they were a few of the artists that really got me into chipmusic). However, I am going to SoundBytes in Melbourne this Saturday (which also has an awesome lineup) so I'm not too upset. :D

Honestly, the only thing that keeps me from telling people I like it are the fans. Most of the people on reddit are okay, but this is how most people think people who like Vocaloid are like.

Fakebit is interesting because you can have a much fuller sound and more complexity. You're not restricted to only a few channels.

AFAIK there aren't any websites dedicated to magical 8 bit itself, but lots of chipmusic artists use VSTs like magical 8 bit, peach, or plogue chipsounds with DAWs like FL Studio. A lot of people refer to it as "fakebit" because it doesn't use the original hardware.

Some chipmusicians that use the original hardware record it straight out of the system with no mastering, so it's an exact replica of what the system can do.

Also Final Fantasy Tactics is fucking amazing. Tactics Advance and A2 are good to play if you don't want to get involved in a huge story and just want to play some tactics battles. It's a very casual tactics game and the battles have interesting limitations and goals that make it really fun to play.
