I've done goofed! Thought my headphone amp had a line in and out. But it's in/in. Now what do I do? by Braindogin audiophile

I think Adcom makes a multi room or speaker A/B pre or something. I'll look later.

Maybe even a vintage preamp would work with speaker A/B Switch

This would be perfect! Memorex Mini Move with iPod Dock (Pink)

Memorex miniMove has the option of using AC/DC power operation or "AA" batteries when you are on the go!

on a serious note I've got nothing, we mostly deal with higher priced items. I've heard about /r/practicalelectronics perhaps you might get better advice on lower budget items there. This channels tends to deal with items like seperate source > AMP > Speakers etc toward accurate audio reproduction.

You can see the polar pattern, which means it will pickup from objects in front of it not behind so much. I have a das keyboard the klickyest of the klacky keyboards and nobody cares. I get more compliments over my voice quality cause it doesn't sound like the mic is up my ass than complaints about keyboard sounds.

Can I get a durable 2.1 system for my computer for around $50? by Nutshell38in audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 8 points9 points ago

I can't recommend a $50 system and call it audiophile with a straight face.

Yes you can get a speaker setup for that much, but I'd recommend you check out /r/Zeos the budget systems he has in there would be about as low as I'd personally recommend and get you into separates.

I'm interested but was reading this post and wonder if anyone agrees with him?

Swings and roundabouts.... They have shortened the arm to 8.6" - which lightens it as a result...

But the shortening of the arm will increase tracking error and therefore increase distortion.

Their 9" carbon arm has an effective mass of 8.5g, and the 10" is 9g.

If I was to choose an ideal arm balancing tracking error vs inertia/mass, I think the goldilocks zone is around 10"...

I simply would not consider an 8.6" arm (and I am a fan of high compliance/low mass)

bye for now

David

I'd look into a HRT Music Streamer II DAC, fiio is nice but I think your looking for something better.

For headphones I'd look at Sennhiser HD650, yeah they are really pricy but if you can save up for them I think they will serve you well. They need a breakin period, but I love mine after they loosened up.

As for an amp I'm going to reach a bit for the stars a Woo WA3 headphone amp would be bitching and looks fantastic.

as for the 2.1 or 2.0 sounds like its a bit on the back burner, I'd use that money toward the headphones and rethink it later. If you must then they will be a budget set like this

http://www.reddit.com/r/Zeos/comments/sdugb/21_system_for_pcmac_w_dac_amp_sub_270/

Zeos's subreddit has a few budget builds, I'd check them out if you need something now.

If after buying the headphone setup you find yourself with a bit extra money to burn Blue Jean Cables for between your DAC and AMP would be nice.

Speakerlabs.com has some interesting diy speaker kits, but like I said just do headphones for now. I can wear my HD650 all day long comfortably. They are open ear so the sound leaks into the space so people know what you're listening to.

that modmic looks very interesting, but being magnetic I worry about it pulling or pushing the magnetic driver in the headphone.

2.0 Dayton System w/ Behringer DAC ~$170 by ZeosPanterain Zeos

[–]Freezerburn 0 points1 point ago

When you add a subwoofer how would you wire that into this setup? I already have a decent audio setup but I'd like something I can recommend to others so before doing that I want to try this myself so I can have a real opinion on a budget setup such as this.

I'm thinking some kind of crossover between the Behringer UCA202 and DTA-100a.

I personally own Sennheiser HD650 and they are so comfortable to me that I could wear them all day and feel great. Being open they allow some air to move so your ears can cool off. I also own the m50s that I'm wearing now at work. I do need to take breaks and take them off from time to time, but they do grab onto my head and it doesn't bother me too much but others complain about it. I admit I've put more than $240 into my system as I need to have an AMP to power this particular Sen headphone then put a DAC on it. Still along with music I use them to watch Movies and Game it really does a great job with that, if the lower models are anything like the 650 I'd recommend checking out an open around ear sen, you might find a deal on a lower one that doesn't need an amp.

As for the Mic I've also gone a little wacky, I do some DSLR video recording and picked up a Zoom H4N for a Mic to use on Vent with my friends online. I've got a cheap "On Stage" Boom mic stand to hold it and does great. Again that is way off on your budget but works fantastic. I think audio technica makes a somewhat affordable mic the "AT2020" that I'd recommend.

I know I'm mentioning things that cost more money but I don't think you'd need to save much longer to get a decent jump in quality and I think that's what we try to do around here get as much quality within a reasonable chunk of our wallets. One thing I recommend, if at all possible pay for these things with cash you have and don't go into debt over SQ.

Are blind people automatically audiophiles? by notafailurein audiophile

[–]Freezerburn 0 points1 point ago

I agree, and the idea of the audiophile is someone that strives for accuracy in audio reproduction. I know the pool is small, but I've known a few blind people and never seen them with high end audio equipment. Maybe I wasn't lucky enough to find the ones that are particular about speakers, amps and sources.

After Searching the net I found some interesting sites: http://www.rickboggs.com/blind-engineers/

I wouldn't call them reference quality speakers from experience in the past with CV, but if you want to run a party I'm sure they will do great. I'm not sure about this particular model as I couldn't find a Frequency Response chart.
