Check out that pair, ordered both, ended up keeping the chestnut brown leather. Extremely comfortable shoe and I wear it to work with khakis/chinos and dark jeans as well.

I do something similar, I buy the clothes I like, take them home and try them on with a few outfits to make sure I like it. I let them simmer in my closet for a week or so before snipping the tags and wearing them. I end up returning 50% if what I buy because I end up not liking it as much once I get home.

OP's amount does seem pretty low for all he had to go through, but dismemberment of a limb/finger can pay out a lot more from certain insurance companies. Maybe some correlation to the case there?

I just had an interview just like this, and I am dying to hear back. Problem with it is that there isn't much feedback you can get from the people that you meet, since the interview was so laid back. There wasn't really anything we discussed that could really reveal any of my shortcomings.

A simple curtain rod with a curtain that is a bit oversized to fill in the edges works great.

I used this solution to block out sunlight in the mornings, but has proved to work quite well this winter. My room is significantly warmer than others in the house.
