What is going on with BTC? by Nathaniel_Higgersin Bitcoin

[–]ElvisLikeBear 1 point2 points ago

Implying that one person regulates the masses now and what we have isn't a free system? Albeit bitcoin is a lot more free but bitcoin is constantly pegged as an alternative to modern currency, not a concurrent system. That is one of the biggest enemies to bitcoin. A good majority of the current users. Those pushing the notion that what we have now is unacceptable and should be replaced - how do you think that looks to the average person on the outside looking in?

ADSL Modem Router - free to good home (Netgear DG632) by statlerwin brisbane

[–]ElvisLikeBear 0 points1 point ago

I've just moved and don't have one at the moment (the router was a roommates). I was going to buy one next pay but if you really do have a free one going I'd be happy to buy you a beer for it... Can get a lift over the weekend to pick it up also.

How is SharePoint as a career path? Please share your thoughts. by 1what1in sharepoint

As a junior developer working with MOSS2007 I envy you... The 2010 transition is constantly on the horizon but not something that we've made it to yet.

How is SharePoint as a career path? Please share your thoughts. by 1what1in sharepoint

[–]ElvisLikeBear 0 points1 point ago

It's unlikely that a lot of businesses can move to 365. I work in the finance sector and I know for us this would be imposable to do whilst also meeting regulatory requirements (a complete deal breaker). Given the amount of business that businesses in the finance sector provide Microsoft with I'd be quite surprised if they didn't release features to SharePoint around the same time as 365 (they would receive a lot of pressure otherwise).

Kinder Surprise on Steroids: Jealous, Americans? by cannawenin pics

Except there's protest groups for just about everything now - this means very little. You're using 'media logic': taking a sample size of one and drawing a conclusion.

How much are you getting paid? ( CS related job holders) by 2goodforyouin cscareerquestions

[–]ElvisLikeBear 11 points12 points ago

No offence but you're far too young to be thinking about specifics. By all means consider what industry you want to be in but the decision about a specific job title is many years ahead of you not to mention that there's going to be jobs that you may be interested in in a few years which don't even exist yet and finally, average salaries will change significantly by the time you finish university.

Seriously - how much acid did you guys drop when creating the video clip? Ridiculous doesn't even begin to explain it! Love it.

Would love details. My family split this year and everything is too new and too awkward for anything to be organized. Would be great to do something to keep things off my mind.

What are some .Net (C# primarily) projects I can contribute to? by ElvisLikeBearin opensource

[–]ElvisLikeBear[S] 5 points6 points ago

Except that I work in a business that uses and will continue to use .Net and Microsoft based products for a long time to come. My reasoning for contributing to a .Net project is to enhance my knowledge of these products. My target demographic is business and I don't see that migrating away from Microsoft products anytime in my working life without something very, very significant happening. To ignore these products and only limit myself to languages that are cross-platform when the majority of work in development (web development aside) is Windows based seems like a rather large waste of time at this point in my career.

Posting to remind myself to check this - will probably put this together if nothing turns up.

VB.net help - CommandBuilder by Unspecifiedin learnprogramming

[–]ElvisLikeBear 0 points1 point ago

This: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/adodotnetdataproviders/thread/666835a2-50ec-415f-ba30-bb80ca51c91b looks quite relevant as does http://stackoverflow.com/questions/588361/update-requires-a-valid-updatecommand-when-passed-datarow-collection-with-modifi

Unfortunately I've no experience with this particular part of ado so I don't think I can help more.

Taken from the first link, I would check the following first:

When working with the Wizards and Designers in Visual Studio the code generators building the UPDATE statement need a few essentials to build the code:

  1. A table. Not a product of a JOIN or a table that includes an expression--just a table.
  2. A primary key or unique column on the table. Converting from an >Access database does not usually bring over the PK which is needed to construct the WHERE clause to point to the row to change.
  3. The column names can't contain special characters.
  4. The columns can't "participate" in Foreign Key constraints.

How's life for .Net developers in Brisbane? by devwithwanderlustin brisbane

[–]ElvisLikeBear 0 points1 point ago

I hear the opposite so frequently that I have to ask if you're referring to work in general (regardless of the money) or work that carries the paycheck that one who has this skill set should be receiving (let's baseline this as >60k/y)? Also my apologies for how this post sounds - I'm not trying to be rude / have a dig at your post I'm just genuinely curious as I'm a developer in training who just doesn't see a well / balanced paying future in Brisbane in this area.

How's life for .Net developers in Brisbane? by devwithwanderlustin brisbane

[–]ElvisLikeBear 0 points1 point ago

Working as a .net developer (in training) also. The general consensus around my workplace is that there's been such a high demand for so long that the work is heading down south (to Sydney). Personally, if you're moving for IT work and you need something consistent then I don't think Brisbane should be your first consideration.

where can I get a decent lunch for $5? by Methrendin brisbane

[–]ElvisLikeBear 1 point2 points ago

There's a new food court just past the one where the Occupy Brisbane tents were called '300'. They've a promotion at the moment where a LOT of stores are doing '$5 deals'. You can get two sushi rolls and a miso soup for $5 or fish and chips for $5, or a decently large red curry chicken for $5 - A lot of variety available if you take a walk around.

Looking for housemate(s) by DistantCubein brisbane

[–]ElvisLikeBear 1 point2 points ago*

Messaged you - timing works great for me also. I've been paying $510/w at the moment as roommates moved back to Byron Bay and I can't get anybody new with the lease running out in January. Definitely keen to make a move!

I'm clean and sociable and get alone easily with others. I do have a small dog but I'm willing to pay extra rent / bond to work around this. Ideally looking for somewhere near the city as I work on Eagle Street.

I can contribute all cooking utensils / a drier / enough desks for all (I own three) / tv

Would you both like to grab a coffee over the Christmas break and have a chat?

Could you elaborate on this a bit more? I've been using SSRS2008 for work a lot and would love to know how this is going to be better moving forward.
