Man, this is awesome! As a hobby chef, I've always loved what the bees in general have done for me. If I ever get the chance, I'm going to sign up and see you there!

The thing is it's just peeling away from the metal. The leather itself is still in good shape, although starting to get stiff.

I do a lot of camera restoration, but until now I've never had to mess with a camera's leatherette. My question is: What do you use to recondition and reattach the leatherette?

I've heard that Lexol is great for cleaning and conditioning it, and that I could use Pliobond, Elmer's Glue, or double-sided tape to put the leatherette back on. Thoughts?

Looking to do a two day one night hike/camp near NJ by LordJezoin AppalachianTrail

[–]ElXGaspeth 1 point2 points ago

Interestingly enough, I just finished planning out something like this. I was planning on doing a stint between the Brink Rd. Shelter and the Delaware Water Gap, camping at the Mohican Outdoor Center overnight. It's a beautiful place to hike. There are quite a few mountains though, so you'll spend some time hiking up and down slopes.

EMP generators wouldn't change the fundamental rules of chemistry and physics.

Batteries as a whole work on a simple principle: The chemical reactions between two substances displace charges, generating voltage dependent on the concentrations of each substance and the way they're designed. (e.g. alkaline cells, lead-acid batteries, etc.) I wouldn't even know where to begin to theorize as to how the people in the show manage to change the reactivity of elements and solutions. It's not like turning a knob: You can't just go "Oop, let's decrease the rate of reaction for a particular reaction for generating .5v to .25v". If you have a given concentration of substances, they have set rules for reactivity and set ranges for efficiency.

Somewhere, somehow, at least one battery must still work. Hell, take a lemon, two pennies, some uninsulated copper wire, and a light fixture with a light bulb and that will create a small current.

While watching the trailer I just kept going "No, that's not how it works. No, it wouldn't happen like that. Oh, cute guy that just happens to be extremely interested in the girl? I'm calling that he turns out to be a traitor- OH LOOK AT THAT."

I'd have an easier time letting this go if they just said "Hey, magic. I don't even know." But that terminal at the end which makes it look like a conspiracy? I...my...I don't even...

Fuck. It's summer. It should be a crime for me to think about the chemistry I learned last semester.

Yep. When I first joined the community a little over three years ago the IRC chat was busy if it had 24 users at one time. Nowadays we routinely see upwards of 80 users on at a time. We have a little more than ten thousand unique visitors to the wiki each day. Hot damn it's great.

Haha, I've been subscribed to bloodrunsclear for a while now. I'm surprised he did one for the SCP Foundation. We're not so underground anymore.

Dear redditors, what's the most common error that foreigners do cooking your country dishes? by MrGestorein Cooking

[–]ElXGaspeth 0 points1 point ago

Yep. I believe they take Nurse sharks (I think) and then do something to get the ammonia out, then cut it up and string it to dry like ham hocks.

There's also something about the warehouses with drying sharks needing to be far far away from Reykjavik because of the stench produced while making this.

There's a lot of things fried in Chinese cuisine.

Youtiao as you mentioned, is one. (Fried crullers, as they are sometimes called in an Asian market near my house...)

Fried whole fish is a common sight in some areas, especially with a hot/sweet chili sauce placed over it. There's also (as stated before) fried spring rolls, fried sesame balls and alternate savory versions as well, and fried shrimp which is also usually prepared in a similar manner to the aforementioned shrimp.

Stinky to-fu is sometimes fried and stewed, then placed on a stick to be eaten along with a ton of extra toppings. (Pickled cucumbers are a nice touch sometimes.)

There's probably a lot more as well, but those are the ones I'm most familiar with...as they are also among my favorite comfort foods as well.

What other SCP would make a great game? by Nivek12in SCP

[–]ElXGaspeth 0 points1 point ago

Hey, senior staff here. You might want to hear what I have to say before doing anything.

You're not the first to talk about a project like this. Over the years we've heard of a couple projects, not counting the one I tried to put together half a year ago. Everyone's free to start and finish their own projects about the Foundation at will. The tricky stuff starts when money gets involved.

To be honest, I'd recommend going onto the IRC channel at the actual site and asking the other ops/mods. A lot of them have greater knowledge about this topic. It's not that we discourage people doing these projects, it's just that we don't want any legal issues to arise for any party, be it you or us. The less lawyers involved the better off everyone will be.

What other SCP would make a great game? by Nivek12in SCP

[–]ElXGaspeth 4 points5 points ago

This would be pretty difficult to pull off. The different groups (factions) don't operate like the GDI or Nod from Command and Conquer, but rather like the US/NATO and Russia from World in Conflict. They wouldn't focus on building bases but rather dropping in covert forces and equipment to try and take different SCPs, depending on the situation.

An SCP game would work (from my point of view) as an FPS game. I was trying to get together a small group to make a Source-mod for the SCP Foundation where you (the player) assumed the roll of a new MTF Agent who needs to under go training or something like the Hazard Course from HL1. Shit happened, and you were called out to obtain an SCP. I was planning on having the player return to his/her origin site, which came under attack by the Chaos Insurgency or IRG.

I ran out of time, so I couldn't carry it out, but the idea is still there.

6. youtube.com 52,329

Misc details:

Just a few notes here:

  • The period for average users did not include May 2nd because the results from that day are still increasing, given this is submitted on May 2nd.
  • The average users per day for the period was calculated by taking the total number of unique visitors for that period and dividing that by the period length.
  • The average user number for the period of 1/8 to 1/28 may be larger, since Google Analytics for the wiki was instituted on 1/8.
  • The referral origins have been altered, since a good deal of traffic was from direct links, Google searches, or from within the wiki itself. Direct links account for a significantly higher number of visits.
  • The browser bit doesn't really have an impact on how the site works. It's just a nice little tidbit.

I ended up with these. They turned out to be less serious than I had intended, but still...

Current resident of BAMM (Mattia). The BEST dorms are, literally, the best. It's like a four-star hotel, with large comfortable rooms and modern architecture. The hallways are all beautiful and it's easy to mistake the buildings as hotels.

BAMM, on the other hand, is...uh...unique in that each floor of each building has their own smell. The rooms are nice, though, in that they're comfortable enough to sleep in and do some work. Walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors sometimes if they're doing extracurricular activities with associates.

Also, be prepared for the large groups of drunk kids walking in at 1 or 2 AM. You get used to it after a while.

Hey there! I wish you luck with your application, but unfortunately I don't know the answers to that. I am not directly involved with the application process, so I can only answer general questions about it.

Also, I'm currently taking a brief leave from the wiki due to a heavy course load and exams, as well as preparing for a long backpacking trip down the Appalachian Trail. The other senior staff and ops in the IRC channel are more than willing to help out with application questions.

I wish you the best of luck with the application!

Well, I mean, if you guys are up for making one up, by all means go ahead! I'm not one to stop the users from making themes!

If you or anyone else makes up a theme that is aesthetically pleasing and functions well, then send me the CSS and relevant files and I"ll put it up. I'll even put the credits within the CSS to be immortalized.
