Spare Bits: What Do You Do With Them? by AMDeckerin Warhammer

[–]Eaeelil 1 point2 points ago

Keep them. The local gaming store here has a "Bit trading day" where people will bring in their extra bits and trade. I can imagine people getting enough to build new units for free easily that way.

Hey Reddit, What the hell is this thing in my throat? by forevernoob13in WTF

Yeah, their basically the build up of sulfur from foods you eat and your body. It collects in small pits in your mouth and you eventually cough them up.

True, hopefully i'll get the job so i'll be able to buy and download it. 4gig phone tethering sucks (oddly good speeds though)

Try not to frighten the users by GroceryBagSlavein computertechs

Well, i work for a place currently providing support for devices that secure credit cards. Most of our customers are gas stations. Well, as you can imagine most of these people are well, not as educated as you would hope.

Normally i call in and say "Our device has lost connection to the internet" but i've learned that the word internet is too much for most.

That one in particular sadly there isn't much more to tell, they bitched and moaned, and i told them to pull the power from their box. Didn't work, i couldn't check their net so i told them to contact their ISP. Technically i could have them powercycle their modem/router but if we do that and something happens or they break it we could be held liable so i don't do it.

You know what is sad? With the job i work with, the word "internet" is considered jargon and I've actually had people screaming at me because I've used "jargon", which consisted of "Do you know if your internet connection is working?". After that he started yelling and demanding i stop using jargon.

Thankfully i wasn't being monitored so i just said "Sir, "internet" is not jargon at all, it's a common place word that is used all of the time." Even though not insulting, yeah that just made him even more upset.

That was a bad day, oh such a bad day.

I understand what your saying. Though "legally" if you find it and report it your not in any trouble, and in this case it would be easy to prove it wasn't his.

Though yeah, with all of the lazy/corrupt cops and other BS it could turn the other way. I'm just saying Ideally he should be fine legally

Though with deleting it, he'd be in big trouble legally if they found that he had the IPOD. It was an attempt to hide evidence, that in of itself could get him in big trouble

From a Cyber security class dealing with similar situations (Half the class we spent tearing apart VM's finding pictures of kittens to that represented CP, and the legality of what you can do and why you do it)

If you had called the police, let them know right away and didn't touch your system after that, especially with the trail of ownership being as it was you would of had no ramifications brought to yourself. (as long as the cops did what they are suppose to do that is)

Honestly you'd probably have to do a full 1/0 wipe 3 times (5 times if your the DoD) that would pretty much guarantee that nothing would be left.

Thats not how it works in these cases, and there was a way to trace back who the Ipod belonged too.

You wouldn't of gotten in any legal trouble what so ever and if you where fired you could of sued and won easily.

Their are people reporting crimes of this nature all of the time. If you explain what is going on, how you found it then any judge that sane will see that you did nothing wrong.

You do not want to delete anything! If it does get traced back to you in anyway and if they find out you've deleted the photos you'll be considered an accessory, or possibly in on it in some other way and boom your on the list for life.

I highly doubt you would have. Though you should of called the police. What training i've had in this situation is to document or secure the device and call the police immediately. Let them handle it, since you found the evidence and have proof (family members and what not) they would of just said thank you and dealt with it.

Looking for pen & paper twitter users to follow. by wildharmonicin rpg

So are you looking for people to play a PnP game over twitter? That would be interesting. I'm on twitter @Eaeelil if you want to try that. Though i'd only be up for playing and not running a game over twitter. Finishing up a bachelors and i've got enough on my plate
