Word of wisdom from a dying generation [xpost from r/politicaldiscussion] by soxfan17in politics

Uncle Bob had other salient points, such as his comment about Congress's work schedule and his admonishment of the hockey player -- I agree with him.

What kind of credit line should we extend them?

Attacking the movie studios and the record labels is barking up the wrong tree. That’s just playing into their hands. The real target is the politicians. Once they get that message that interfering with the Internet will get them fired, the battle is won. by electronics-engineerin technology

It's a mistake to assume that everyone in the movie industry is part of the copyright lobby. Hurting the everyday folks is not going to help you lobby within these organizations. Legislation is the key.

Decent song and your video compliments it nicely. But I think it's slightly out of sync around 2:14 when the guys sings.

I find it ironic that the rich are angry over people taking advantage of swedish laws to pirate, but they are all too happy to take advantage of swiss banks for their offshore accounts by sargentpilcherin politics

True, but this doesn't necessarily mean that the entertainment moguls are using them as tax havens. The original post linked two separate issues as if they were connected and they are not.

People always jump on the AMA guest to verify themselves, but I guess vicious rumors get a pass. I don't think the thread was a good reflection of the Reddit community -- in fact, I think it was an embarrassment.

Try and see if there are local clubs where you are visiting that match your interests (e.g. cycling, music, etc)

January 17, 1961: President Eisenhower warns us of the growing power of the Military Industrial Complex. 51 years later, have we listened at all? by TheCannonin politics

[–]DudeAsInCool 0 points1 point ago

President Dwight Eisenhower, Republican, wrote these words to his brother (President of Penn State at the time) on November 8, 1954:

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid ."

Blaming Capitalism for Corporatism - The shift of power from owners and innovators to state officials is the antithesis of capitalism by DaaraJin Economics

[–]DudeAsInCool 0 points1 point ago

We should break up the oligopoly trusts. There is no reason why movie studios, networks, cable and internet companies can't stand on their own. This would open up more competition and innovation.

If you worked in the industry, then you might know what I'm talking about. Fewer film companies, means fewer buyers, means less competition, means fewer movies. It also means mediocre news reporting.
