Destler's been known to eat his lunch in the SAU dining hall. When's the best time to catch him? by pixelSHREDDERin rit

Usually around noon in my experience. No info on the days though. Why dont you email him? He's actually very good about responding promptly.

Guess we can't vote for Batman anymore... by thatritguyin rit

[–]DrPhilz 1 point2 points ago

Also funny! Haha you made it a lot of fun man. We appreciate anytime people vote, even if the caped crusader is not (yet) a part of the RIT community.

Also-a suggestion for next year. If Batman runs again-make the light on the Gleason clock tower into a bat-signal. Mad Karma if you can do that.

[–]DrPhilz 2 points3 points ago

Actually no. We thought batman was hilarious. For the record I do too... This was solely because we wanted it to be expressly stated that you can't put offensive things down. You'd be surprised at the number of people that put... Let's call it racist comments. We really don't want to censor anyone, but we also can't let something be in writing that is hateful against other members of our community. Simple as that.

SG has to take the fall for this one...I apologize for that. Captioning takes a long time and a lot of manpower. It was literally just finished an hour ago and is uploading to vimeo as we speak. It will be up by the early hours of the morning tomorrow. Again sorry for the delay.

That. Also you can always contact rhapres@RIT.edu and rhavp@Rit.edu.

What do you guys think about the upcoming SG elections? Any opinions one way or another, but keep it polite by long_eared_ganmenin rit

I have to agree-haha. Google docs was just the easiest to access and edit for everyone since it was readily available/shareable. Any ideas how to better interface it while still maintaining the ability to easily edit for non-technical users?

Some of the goals need a little refinement-it's usually a personal thing. Some prefer long term or overarching, while others prefer to put everything they've ever done on there. (Sometimes "everything" is preferred so that we can easily recall what we did for our time sheets later).

As far as progress information-how much detail would you like? The example of the red barn-we helped secure heating (finally) for the facility, and a long list of access (and fire code) things are being implemented while we gear up for bringing water/bathrooms there. So yes we advocated and got some things for the barn and I consider that successful while hoping that the push for water continues in the future. How much of that would you like to see? Would an "explanation" or "comments" column help clarify? Again, we can easily do any of that, so just let us know what works for you.

I'll make sure to drop a line at the end of the year. SG usually gets downvoted, but I think its still good to make the effort. I really appreciate the idea!

Hey I appreciate the support! That actually sounds like a brilliant idea...we usually do a big report at the end of the year for the board of trustees, but I sure wouldn't mind making that into a TL;DR list for you guys.

Also, we do keep running list of goals/accomplishments in a google doc throughout the year. All of my senators do as well, and we do our best to update them. If you would like to take a look they're here

If you think of a better way to get these (or future versions of it) out amongst the student body I am all ears. It is something that we admittedly struggle with annually, so I would love to hear new ideas!

Phil here. I'm not going to go around downbricking everyone for having an opinion. That's perfectly fine. Yes, I made some mistakes. I own that. I also happened to hold a public office so word and rumors spread very quickly.

I will say simply that I have worked very hard to re-establish myself at RIT, and SG by keeping my nose clean and doing the best job I can as Vice President. If that wasn't good enough, then I sincerely apologize for failing you. I tried my best. In the end, my goal was, and is, to leave this campus better than when I found it. To that end, Greg and I have worked diligently to bring fun programs and expanded service to campus, and overall I feel we have exceeded expectations. Regardless of your feelings toward me, it has been my pleasure to serve you all, and I will greatly miss RIT next year.

Unfortunately this does happen on occasion...last year we had 5 (roughly you can double check) unionized senator races. This year it is 7. It could be any number of things affecting it. For example, COS has very strict lab hours, and Grad is very busy with research so both are difficult to find candidates at all let alone 2. Other colleges have excellent candidates that have many friends and will clearly win-if they declare early enough, then it usually discourages others from running.

Tl;dr. Not a new issue. Were all really busy so it's difficult to find candidates.

No youre not missing much-the changes are subtle. The alpha bar works now though. That was the big one for me. It was really frustrating to SG that only half of the system (the numbers) worked. The solution was to ignore the part that didn't work. The script takes a non functional part and makes it functional. I'll let you judge when we post it to SG.Rit.edu. Hope that helps!

Distorter cover changed at administrator’s request, profanity removed, prints discarded | Infinity Quad by schneidyin rit

I'm going to throw my hat in on Dr Heath's side here. While I don't understand the cat and women metaphor, I do think the f bomb on a campus wide publication is not in our collective best interest. Censorship is a fine line...but I think just taking an f bomb off a cover will give a much better image for tour groups and kids running around campus. distorter is supposed to push boundaries but profanities could be kept off the cover. I really don't think that's a lot to ask. Feel free to disagree if you like-I value everyone's opinion.

I hope these all get removed from campus by JFreyin rit

Do you know where there are more? I thought we got them taken care of but I could be wrong.

I am totally clueless on this sort of thing so I apologize if the answer is obvious, but why is one charity giving money to another charity? Shouldn't they both be fundraising?

His name is rick, or Ricky. I think we should get him something fun that he can keep. Maybe a custom Tshirt?

Well actually your representatives at SG voted on the name. If you want a better name you should give suggestions to your SG rep.

Well actually with the Union Contracts the way they are (need routes like 6 months ahead) it is likely that this SG will be voting yes or no to keep this for next year. We'll surely talk about expansion then as well :)

Words from Greg Pollock, SG President by Mr_Brightside_in rit

[–]DrPhilz 7 points8 points ago

I agree expansion would be ideal here-and I look forward to that debate at SG. It's definitely in the cards if we keep the involvement up.

Here is what I'm curious about though:

Even on the bus route schedule most of the places are bars/restaurants.

Here is the schedule and there is only one stop. Pitkin and East. SG really just wanted people to branch out beyond Henrietta and experience something other than a shopping mall for culture.
