I will say straight off the bat that I am for legalization (or at least decriminilization), and that I think marijuana is perfectly safe for the vast majority of people so long as it is used in moderation.

But - and this is a big but - the notion that weed is totally harmless is just plain wrong, as is the belief that any studies that cast it in a less than flattering light are nothing but government propaganda.

I've noticed that this seems to be the prevailing perception on Reddit, and while I'm not looking to kill anyone's buzz, I do think this is a pretty dangerous misconception that could potentially lead to a lot of people fucking up their brains.

Without getting into the gritty details, I was a heavy smoker from the ages of 17 to 23. To say I was an addict is a gross understatement - I probably smoked an average of 20-30 cones every day and spent between $100 and $150 on weed a week.

While I never had a total break with reality like some heavy users have had (including several people I used to get high with on a regular basis), weed definitely fucked with my psyche on a very deep and insidious level. It made me profoundly anxious, depressed, and just generally emotionally erratic. Even though I'm sure I have at least a mild predisposition to these things anyway, I have absolutely no doubt that the herb intensified them many times over.

Once it even landed me in hospital - not in a psych ward, but in the ER. I have never been more terrified in my entire life, and for a period of roughly 30 minutes I was absolutely certain that I was going to die. I even got to the point where I made a deal with God. As someone who vascillates between atheism and agnosticism, this should give you an idea of the kind of place I was in.

I don't really know exactly why I'm doing this AMA. I'm not anti-weed, and I'm under no illusions that the responsibility for wasting 7 years of my life and possibly permanently damaging my brain chemistry lays with marijuana and not squarely at my feet, I just thought I'd share this for anyone who might be interested.

Remove fake Adobe Flash Updater virus

Ok, this morning at school when I booted my netbook, there was a screen asking if i wanted to update my flash player, to make a long story short, I did, it turned out to be a virus, called in sick at work so i could fix my computer due to the fact that there was no info what so ever about the removal procedure and none of the free antivirus programs seem to detect the problem, so just in case anyone esle was hit by it here is what you need to do:

windows vista

*1 open the current users folder in explorer *2 open AppData *3 open Roaming *4 open macromedia *5 open Flash Player *6 delete everything inside

the next steps may not be necessary, but this is how i fixed my problem on my vista machine, the steps for XP will follow.

*7 go to http://www.free-codecs.com/download/adobe_flash_player.htm and download the flash player for your browser *8 finally go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP and download the oficial version for your browser

for windows XP *1 open c: *2 open Documents and Settings *3 open Owner *4 open Application Data *5 open Macromedia *6 open Flash Player *7 delete everything in this folder *8 finally go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP and download the oficial version for your browser

Ask r/guns: S&W pistol thats designed just like a Glock?...

Last weekend I went to the range and there was a guy there who had a .40 cal Smith and Wesson pistol that, besides the color and some markings, was nearly identical in design to my G22. The slide and barrel assy were almost exactly like, including the firing pin safety mechanism. The frames were also very similar, slide release was identical to that on my Glock.

I can't for the life of me remember what model gun it was and figured someone here could tell me. So, does anyone know?

I also have some questions about these guns:

How are they able to copy Glock like that? Does Glock not have any patent rights on their design or something?

Do any other companies manufacture guns of the same design as Glocks?

What are the quality of these apparent Glock rip-offs? I'm guessing it's not that great because this guy's gun jammed at least 3 times out of 50 rounds.

What are your opinions on these guns?

I'm obviously against fighting animals for sport. There's no reason for it.

I grew up into it, so I didn't know it was wrong. It was morally the same to me as cleaning fish after you catch them. It's just something that you do because you want to eat. Fighting roosters was how we made extra money so my family could eat. We were extremely poor.

Every other month my dad usually made four to six hundred dollars in prize money on maybe a hundred dollars of feed/medicine/housing for the birds.

We moved from the country in Oklahoma to in town so we didn't have birds after that. We usually would bring four to sixteen birds to a tournament. It's basically Thunderdome. Two birds enter, one bird leaves. I was about 14 at that time we got out.

My thoughts thinking back are that it just seems very low class/repugnant. My sisters mostly had enough to eat even if we got made fun of for being the "poor kids" at school. I can't really make a judgement on my dad.

I will try to answer your questions on anything about cock fighting (roosters)

If someone makes an astounding discovery in a field of science and that find is somehow contrary to one or more dogma of a religion, post it, but leave the religion-bashing at /r/atheism. If we wanted to read the "because of discovery A, Christianity is dumb" we'd sub to /r/atheism.

I'm subbed to /r/science because I care about scientific discovery, not someone's childish, petty jabs at a strawman.
