I think your misconception, (and it is the misconception of many) is that the current American economy is an accurate representation of capitalism. It is actually corporatism. Big business fills the pockets of the politicians while the politicians enact legislation to protect the big businesses. You touched on this a bit with your windows/highway example, but it seems like you still view this as capitalism. I view this as one of the great deceptions that progressives have been able to impart on the people.

I also think that your characterization of the NAP is incorrect. I do not view it as the same line of thinking as marxism. Marxism ignores the fact that individuals are greedy and are interested in gaining wealth and resources. It discourages that human nature with no recourse for those who are discouraged. Contrarily, with regards to the NAP, while humans are also violent and the NAP advocates against the initiation of violence, it does not discourage the use of violence if attacked, thus offering a method of recourse to the attacked.

Lastly, I'm not blaming Keynes for bricks through the window. He didn't throw the brick nor pay anyone else to. Keynes did encourage "busy work" types of labor funded by government when there weren't enough productive jobs as a method of maintaining a flow of money within the economy. I don't agree with his opinion, mainly because once a government creates a job, no matter how useless it is, it is almost impossible to get rid of, so there a permanently pointless job sucking tax dollars from the people.

Yeah, it's so not cool to have beliefs and principles you live by. How archaic.

Nope! Breaking a privately-owned window is a breach of the non-aggression principle. Managed economies break the NAP in order to function. True believers in free markets do not.

What's the strangest thing you bought while drunk? by phookain self

[–]Deftin 2 points3 points ago

I once got drunk and apparently was so moved by late night informercials and donated a chunk of change to Smile Train, a charity that fixes cleft palettes for kids in third world nations. Best drunken purchase/exchange ever.

Clever new meme: "Brainwashed libertarian." Might be a succinct way to quickly express ideas to those outside of progressive circles. by mcglavenin progressive

[–]Deftin 1 point2 points ago

Yes, yes, it's the libertarians who have adopted a philosophy which is not taught in schools and political establishments, but rather researched independently who are brainwashed. And I'm sure there are no straw men in /r/progressive.

Were you appointed? If not I think this needs to be an agreement, at least among congress, as to who should represent us.

Just donated $50 for Ron Paul. Looks like we've raised $1,981,275 so far. Great job everyone! by xavier321in ronpaul

Well, you'd have to donate to his pac. Individuals are only allowed to donate 2500 to a single candidate for some reason.

So it can be used in a city. Fair enough. If this thing is going 30 down the highway when the speed limit is 65 that creates a very dangerous situation for everyone involved. Essentially this is a vehicle for people who never plan on leaving their city or taking a cab.

I agree. There are no laws about accepting items from griefers in the end and no proof of any contract or agreement made with MinecraftFTW contingent on the acceptance of the items. Additionally, I don't know where you got the idea that it was within your right to survey his inventory when he has not been convicted of a crime, nor officially charged. Edit: Directed at go1d.

I am being denied a trial by Columbia, I claim this is un-just. by Joshua97367in Civcraft

I can confirm this as the series of events that resulted in his detainment.

He should still be given a trial though.

True, but that still doesn't mean you should undo a successful venture. Josh terrorized us. We captured and imprisoned him. There is no cost to keep him imprisoned. There is a 99% chance at incurring a cost (through further damage of life and property) if we release him.

Columbia is violent and evil, and mrgagetron is drunk with power by ProfitMasterin Civcraft

[–]Deftin 2 points3 points ago

I think it's pretty clear that there is a portion of the server population that wants to prove their system or lack thereof is superior to ours (Columbia) so they will negligently call us tyrannical to support their beliefs. The fact is, Columbia is the most successful city-state on the server and as the top, we attract a significant amount of griefers and detractors. We have chosen to delegate power to a few individuals to deal with them. If we had chosen not to, our detractors would flaunt our inability to protect our citizens and call that a reason why governments are bad/ineffective. No matter what we do, these people will harangue us.

Columbia is violent and evil, and mrgagetron is drunk with power by ProfitMasterin Civcraft

Our leaders were only acting to protect citizens within our borders. Any sovereign nation would disallow a foreign vigilante or bounty hunter from pursuing his target within their borders. Extradition hearings were offered to ProfitFucker and he refused and continued threats and vigilantism within our borders. I honestly don't know what other action could have been taken other than allowing us to be imprisoned by an outsider. Logic me that.
