He was legally justified but it was a stupid decision and one that he likely wishes he had back. By all accounts he doesn't seem like the kind of person who is/was eager to kill someone. He just wanted to stop the people responsible for the recent rash of home burglaries in his neighborhood.

Being followed is not justification for starting a fight. If GZ threatened TM, assaulted him, or tried to detain him, then yes TM had the right to defend himself.

Whoever started the physical confrontation or made a physical confrontation seem emminent and unavoidable to the other is the guilty party. This would include if GZ tried to detain TM.

The unfortunate fact is that no neutral third party witnessed the start of the incident.

Agreed. I only get on reposts when there is a shit storm of the same post or when it is a reddit "classic" that has been posted hundreds of times.

Did you go to Poiana Brasov? That is the ski mountain above the city of Brasov. Awesome skiing in the winter.

When I went, there was a bunch of Austrians skiing there because they said the snow was better (don't know if they meant always or that season.) It takes 25-35 minutes down from the top so it is a big mountain and there's a bar halfway down overlooking the valley that leads to Pele castle. You can see for 50km when it's sunny.

I was addressing the response by the media and public, which has been quick to condemn GZ.

But I agree with you notion that law enforcement's response would've been different had GZ been black.

You seem quite sure of a guilty verdict. I am not so sure because I find GZ monitoring of TM acceptable in light of the rash of breakins that community had experienced. It was stupid of him to approach TM, but not illegal. For me the bottom line is who started the physical confrontation. Mitigating that might also be the behavior and attitude of the other party. For example, if GZ made verbal threats to TM or vice versa.

If GZ initiated the physical conflict or threatened TM, then he is guilty. Attempting to detain TM would be considered starting the physical altercation in this context.

If TM started it w/o GZ threating him or otherwise making a physical altercation appear emminent, then GZ is innocent.

I am not aware that any neutral third party witnesses exist to this moment of truth, so I am not sure of a guilty verdict.

I am surprised that this is the first I have heard of GZ calling TM a coon. No wonder TM was offended. That changes things. I would want to fight GZ if I was TM after that. Althought I am not sure that would be legal. But it is like he was trying to provoke an attack so he could shoot right?

Ok I will watch the video, but I have a hard time calling individuals doing paid appearances "impartial." All these folks know which way the wind is blowing and are likely eager to give their customers satisfaction.

In my experience, the courtroom and the oath have a funny way of sobering witnesses up as to what they actually saw and heard.

If you think I am on GZ side, you can go find posts of me arguing with people who say that "TM got what he deserved." I just like to see the trial before the verdict.

I am actually pretty disappointed in reddit's rush to judgment along with the rest of America. I don't think this would happen if TM was white and GZ was black.

I mean please excuse me for being human, but I would hope that I could walk up to any stranger in my neighborhood, especially after a series of breakins, and talk to them without getting the shit kicked out of me. But that would probably be racist of me if the stranger is black.

I read the article you linked and claimed it stated that people saw Zimmerman on top of Martin before the shooting. The article stated that the sound of the gun shot is what first made the witnesses look.
