I am Rob Burnett, Executive Producer of the Late Show with David Letterman, and a writer/director/producer of television and movies. by IamRobBurnettin IAmA

I so appreciate the fans of "Ed." It is not an enormous group, but it is a loyal one.

Hi, Rob. This is Dave Lambert, the "News Director" (whatever the hell that means) of TVShowsOnDVD.com (hope you've heard of us; we've been around 10 years, and TV Guide bought us five years ago).

Ed's number of fans are enormous enough...the show is the 4th-most-requested show at our site that is unreleased-on-DVD. It's behind only The Wonder Years, Batman and Salute Your Shorts. It outranks series like China Beach and Homefront.

And besides, Julie Bowen's tearin' it up on Modern Family, so now's the perfect time for a tie-in with an Ed DVD release. If CBS/Paramount and NBCUniversal dont' want to do it, I can assure you that Shout! Factory, Time Life and other 3rd-party studios would be more than happy to. :)

This delay with Ed has been going on for years (as evidenced by this 2010 entry in our site's "What's the Hold-up?" FAQ), and it's time for the show to come to DVD. Tell them I said it's time to work this out and make it happen.

10pm Mother's Day rage by mrp1234in fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]DaveLambert 0 points1 point ago

A year ago on Mother's Day my mom was in a coma following a stroke. She passed away by the end of the month, never having seen the flowers I'd sent her for Mother's Day...flowers I'd ordered in advance 2 days before her stroke. This was a tough Mother's Day for me, but my mother-in-law and my wife helped me get through it. I hope you had help as well. Hugs, condolences and best of luck.

Press Release Reveals a Shout!/Time Life 40-DVD 'MMPR to Lost Galaxy' Set; 7-season pack to be online only, as is a six-disc 'Complete 1st Season' set; Shout! also puts 'Season 1, Part 2' in stores this fall by DaveLambertin powerrangers

In this March 21st post at the official Shout! Factory message board, the studio's producer of the Power Rangers sets clarifies things:

Allow me to be a little clearer about the newsletter and press announcement. Not all deals made with studios and licensors allow the option of Blu-ray releases. We wanted to announce that the deal we've penned with Saban does. But, naturally, we'd only do so IF the elements are there with which to make Blu-rays. As of now, there are no HD elements to work with, so I wouldn't expect them in the first batch of releases.

Also, let's look at it this way. Let's say it ends up at the high end of what I'm saying, and the asking price turns out to be $250. Breaking that down:

  • At 338 episodes, that's under 75¢ per episode

  • At 40 DVDs, that's $6.25 per disc...less than a third of the cost of a newly released 90-minute movie on DVD!

  • At 7 seasons, that's $35 per season (compare to $19.93 SRP for the 3-disc half-season-set Shout! will put in stores 3 weeks after the 7-season set ships from TL)

All of that sounds perfectly reasonable to me; not outrageous at all! So $250 SRP is fine, and anything less than that is a bonus. :)

I don't know if we should be looking to Shout! for price guidance here, or to Time Life. I think this is likely to be more of TL's baby. I think that way because the press release says it will be available "directly available to fans starting July 30, 2012 through Time Life's direct-response on-air TV campaign, as well as online."

So TL has a 40-DVD Six Million Dollar Man set for $239.95 SRP, and also had previously done a 41-DVD Man From UNCLE set for $249.95 SRP pricetag when the set was new (the latter is currently going for $99.95 from them, though, since the rights have reverted back to Warner and the set is in stores for a long time now).

If we want to compare with Shout!, then let's look at their 37-DVD Leave It To Beaver set, which lists for $199.99 SRP. I cannot think offhand of any other Shout! sets which had quite that many discs. There were much fewer DVD counts for Shout!'s complete series sets of The Transformers (16, $169.99 SRP), G.I. Joe (17; $179.99 SRP), The Larry Sanders Show (17; $149.99 SRP), It's Garry Shandling's Show (16; $159.99 SRP, and Barney Miller (25; $159.99 SRP).

So it feels like we should be planning on $200 to $250 for the 7-Season Power Rangers package. What it turns out to be in the end might depend on several factors, like how elaborate the packaging is, how much money was invested in the extras, and what costs may have needed to be put into cleaning up the footage, etc. But since this is still mainly considered to be a "kids' show," I think they'll try hard to keep the price down as much as possible. We'll have to wait and see, though.

I think we'll know next week, or at worst the week after.

Nah, don't look for that. If the 40-DVD set moves well enough, they'll also do a "Lightspeed through RPM" set, but they don't intend to put those together (the first half and the second half) into one package.

This identical link was posted in a bunch of other subreddits, but I couldn't believe that nobody posted it to r/LGBT yet...the community such rants would affect the most!

I met OSC once, briefly, a long time ago. I had no idea he felt this way. Certainly turns an otherwise pleasant memory sour, y'know?

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Go Go Power Rangers: First Concrete Info Gives Date, Cost, More! by DaveLambertin powerrangers

[–]DaveLambert[S] 0 points1 point ago

And the above begs the question: if the entire run from MM to RPM came out in a couple of huge sets, a "first half" and then a "second half" (i.e., MMPR to PRLG in one, and then PRLS to PR:RPM in the other), would you buy both sets?

I know my kid (14) loves Lightspeed Rescue and Time Force (my wife and I enjoy these, too, just to be clear!) and Wild Force and Ninja Storm, etc. Who DIDN'T like Dino Thunder? The rest all have their fans, of course, and my son is huge among them. I don't think I could ignore a "second half" giant DVD set, if Shout! made such a thing available.

No, they haven't announced anything like that. But they've put out huge sets before (Leave It To Beaver, Larry Sanders Show, Barney Miller) and other companies continue to do well with similar huge sets (like Time Life's recent superstar, the Six Milliion Dollar Man).

We can hope, right? :D

Because the 17 seasons from MMPR to PR:RPM comprise 700 episodes, and the 7 seasons from MMPR to PRLG consist of 338 episodes...just a bit under the halfway mark. If you leave off Lost Galaxy then it's 293 episodes...decidedly off-balance.

If something like that occurred, I think it would be more likely to be MMPR through PRLG. Would that be cool with you?

It does now. ;)

I've also added a note at the bottom to mention that this set will be closed captioned.

Also to note that my write up at the link is not the same thing as a press release; as I say at the bottom of my story the actual press release from Shout! Factory (and Saban) will come next week. You'll know it's the press release because it will start with "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE". :)

The first season has 60 episodes:

The Season 1, Volume 1 DVD release is a half-season set; it will contain 30 half-hour episodes.

I've owned the German DVD release of MMPR S1 for roughly five years now; it's a 6-DVD set with 60 episodes.

Right now the only public information is about a 3-DVD set with the first half of the first season of MMPR (30 episodes).

More info to be announced soon. No worries! :)

If you've never seen the show, you can always get the DVDs REALLY cheap: collections 1 through 8 (the entire 124-episode run of the show) are like $5-$10 each these days, or for $25 total you can get both Lion Force Part 1 and Part 2 for the same episodes as "collections 1 through 5", which are the main 72 episodes that everybody loves from the Lion Force Voltron part of the show (the other 52 eps in the Air/Land/Sea collections are "Vehicle Force Voltron", which I like well enough, but it isn't as generally popular).

Earlier this week I spotted this pic elsewhere, and I sent it to my friends at World Events Productions (WEP), makers of Voltron, asking "You've seen this picture, right?"

The reply was "Thanks man; indeed. We even had her cameo in Voltron Force in the ep. Dradin Baby Dradin...", which aired a little while ago this season. Sweet!
